Here we look at the top 20 point scorers so far in Sun Dream Team and try to analyse them in different ways to understand the the reasoning behind the players ranking and any trends for the future
Sun Dream Team transfer window 4 tips – analysing the top 20 point scorers to date
Here is the table of the top 20 point scorers from the Sun Dream Team site.
The yellow warning sign seems to indicate some injury doubt. There is a table in the sun dream team site which gives individual explanations
Analysed by position
1/20 are Goalkeepers
4/20 are Defenders
7/20 are Midfielders
8/20 are Strikers
15/20 are attacking players. Interestingly 3/8 of the strikers are fairly cheap with Kane £1.5m, Berahino £2.0m and Austin £2.5m However none of the 7 midfielders are under £4.0m. The 4 defenders only came from 2 clubs, Chelsea and Southampton. The GK De Gea has been outstanding.
What this does mean is that spending on the attacking players is where you should allocate your budget. The cheap options in the striking position is balanced by the need to pay more for the midfielders. There aren’t any surprises in the midfield apart from maybe Oscar and Coutinho but there are definitely surprises in the forward position. It will be interesting if this is the case next season.
The cheapness of the Southampton defenders balance the expense of the Chelsea defenders and the 2 teams are easily the best defensive teams in the league.
De Gea has just been plain outstanding and has given a number of huge performances for Man Utd.
Analysed by the teams who were in the European competitions
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City were in the Champions League. Tottenham and Everton were in the Europa League
12/20 are from teams that started in the Champions League
3/20 are from Tottenham who are in the Europa League
The remaining 5 players are Berahino, Austin, Clyne, Bertrand and De Gea.
Im sure you’re aware that all the English teams are out of the European competitions and this is more for next season as with everyone out it’s all on for the final leg of games
By Team
Chelsea have 5 players. Arsenal have 3 players. Man City, Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham have 2 players. Everton, WBA, QPR and Man Utd have 1 player.
So a reasonable spread but notable that everyone with 2 or more players are challenging for the top 4 Champions League positions.
By type of player
3/4 Defenders are Full backs. 2 are from Southampton and all 3 FBs are very attack minded. I’m not sure from this we can take the fact that we should go for FBs not CBs.
All the midfielders are forward thinking attacking midfielders. Variation on starting positions and drifting inwards don’t show that it’s always the central midfielder who benefits. Some but not all have set piece responsibility
Summary
- Midfielders and strikers are the priority positions for your cash
- There are cheap strikers available to balance the expensive strikers and the expensive midfield
- The dominace of players in European competitions has continued but with no teams in Europe there is no ongoing advantage
- 2 teams have 8 of the top 20 which shows that you can double or triple up players from 1 team with good form and fixtures
- Strikers, attacking full backs and attacking midfielders seem to have performed best position wise
Thats it. On to the best fixtures next
