Sun Dream Team transfer window 4 tips – the best defenders

Sun Dream Team

Here’s some more Sun Dream Team transfer window 4 tips article– the best  defenders.  I’ve put it in a fairly easy to follow table with the key stats looking back and going forward.  After that Ive put a bit of commentary on each of them.

Sun Dream Team transfer window 4 tips – the best defenders table

I’ve based the table on a mxture of Points Per Game, Future Fixtures and Value for Money.  It’s not the just the best points or Points per game it’s a mixture of the 3 key stats.  The Key to the stats is at the bottom of the table.  Then there is  a short commentary on each player plus the best points per game stats by cost band

KEY

1.  Rank:  My view of their rank given the various stats

2.  Cost:  Their cost in Sun Dream Team

3.  Points;  The total points to date in Sun Dream Team

4.  The points per game:  The total points divided by the games played.  The higher the better.  The Sun Dream Team supplies games including sub appearances which makes the information a bit distorted.

5.  Points per game/£Cost:  A rough calculation of their points per game in relation to their value.  The higher the figure the better.  This shows how good value they are

6.  The % of 7+  plus awards of their total games.  This gives a general indication of Sun Dream Teams view of the player

7.  The % of Starman awards.  Again this gives a general view of the players starman potential

8.  Defensive ranking/clean sheet predictions:  The teams defensive rank and my clean sheet prediction to the end of the season.  See my recent article.  It gives an indication of the teams defensive strength and the potential clean sheets to the end of the season.

I’ve then attempted  to rank them although obviously you will have your own views.

Commentary on each player

Terry

Loved by Sun Dream Team with the highest starman % of games played of any player.  Chelsea also have the extra Champions League games and a good fixture run to the end of the season.  Does have some rotation risk but he’s played every premier league team bar 2 this season through injury, not rest, and it’s hard to see Mourinho resting him at the business end of the season.  This is especially the case given that they didn’t defend particularly without him especially in the WBA game.

Cahill

Established now as Terry’s partner.  Luiz maybe fit but not favoured by Mourinho.  To be fair Luiz makes Demichelis look conservative in moving forward to get the ball.  Hard to see him rotated.

Coleman

Top goal scoring defender in the premier league with 6 goals  equal with Skrtel.  7+ awards  show that he is also consistently liked by Sun Dream Team.  No rotation risk.

Curtis Davies

The cheapie defensive sensation of the season.  The leader of the defence that has performed so well plus a goal scorer.  Is a small injury doubt for tonights game but expected to play but worth monitoring before the deadline closes.  Has the highest 7+ % of games played of any defender showing he is a real darling of the judges.  The difficulty is the fixture schedule to the end of the season.  However they should get 2 additional games through the FA Cup

Sagna

Koscielny is probably the Arsenal Sun Dream Team favourite but he’s £2m more expensive and also has an injury doubt going forward.  Arsenal have a path they should take to the FA Cup final and a good schedule once the next couple of games are over.  A Koscielny injury will weaken the defence though as Vermaelen is no replacement.  Has gametime security as Jenkinson hasn’t been used as a replacement at all hardly.  The pressure to finish at least 4th will mean no risks with selection.  Also playing for a transfer or new contract so will be fully motivated

Kolarov

For Man City, Kompany has a significantly better points per game stat than Kolarov and has far better gametime security.  However he’s £6.5m compared to Kolarovs £3.0m.  Kompany is a good attacking threat but Kolarov is the most dangerous attacking defensive player in the premier league in my view.  Kolarov will be rotated with Clichy but has 2 extra games as compensation.  Also with the league now the only thing to concentrate on so rotation should diminish. Kolarov seems the favoured LB.  He’s also good off the bench and often comes on as a LWM.

Luke Shaw

A real favourite with the Sun Dream Team awards panel with  61% of games seeing him receive a 7+ award.  Fixtures are a bit mixed but still should continue to have the points ticking over

Rosenior

The other Hull defensive cheapie who has benefited from their strong defensive performances.  Unlike Davies though doesn’t benefit from the love of the Sun Dream Team panel and will rely on clean sheets which maybe hard to come by with mixed fixtures.  Gametime is secure and should have 2 extra games in the FA Cup

Azpilicueta

A good value route into the Chelsea defence at £4.0m.  Seems to have taken the place of Cole permanently and that security is enhanced by Mourinho waxing lyrical about him in the press.  Has the advantage of good fixtures and at least 2 extra games in the Champions league

Skrtel

Liverpool in some games have shown a bit more solidity defensively recently although that has been mixed up with games we saw at Cardiff and against Swansea when they conceded 3 goals.  You’re gambling on that improvement and for Skrtel to continue his goal scoring form.

Fonte

Another cheapie defender with good stats.  Fixtures are mixed but he does have good attacking potential to compensate

Bardsley

Sunderland have improved defensively under Poyet.  They also have to approach games defensively due to a lack of a goal scoring threat.  Bardsley has reasonable numbers for the value and Sunderland have 2 extra games to the end of the season.
