I thought after my post on the high ownership players in the Sun Dream team format that I should look at how I could get the 3 highest % owned players in Sun Dream Team into my team and the sacrifice it would take to get him in. That means getting in Ronaldo Neymar and Messi

Sun Dream Team World Cup 2014 – how to get Messi Neymar and Ronaldo into your team

At 29% Ronaldo is the 2nd highest % owned player in Sun Dream Team.  The world player of the year has the potential to really hurt you if you dont own him.  Last year he scored 51 goals and 19 assists in 47 games for Real Madrid. In qualifying he scored 8 goals in 10 games.  The mitigation of this risk is that his injury at the end of the season has seen him only play 64 minutes in the recent friendly against Ireland where he didn’t score in a 5-1 win.  In my mind he’s likely to play all 3 games.  The first game is against Germany so he will have to play that.  The next 2 fixtures aren’t exactly a walkover in USA and Ghana and if he’s fit he will want to play not rest.

I thought I should see what the effect would be if I tried to squeeze him into my team.

It wasn’t too difficult.  I kept Neymar and Messi and took out Dzeko.  Thats a £5m price difference which I made up with 2 transfersand £0.5m in the Bank.  I switched out Rojo of Argentina for Rodriguez of Switzerland.  That created £2m being £3m for Rojo and £1m for Rodriguez.  I then transferred out Pedro for another Swiss player in Shaqiri.  That created £2.5m as Pedro is £5.0m compared to Shaqiri at £2.5m.

Losing Dzeko would be a big blow.  The unquestionable star in a very attacking team in a good group apart from Argentina and even Argentina concede goals which is why I wasn’t worried about losing Rojo.  Dzeko is  a bargain at £3.0m.  Losing Pedro isn’t such a blow.  He may only play 2 games given the rotation and Spain are in a difficult Group with Holland and Chile and Spain haven’t always scored many goals.

What about the transfers in?  Switzerland should qualify from the Group given that the Group is Ecudaor France and Honduras.  However unless they win the Group they will probably play Argentina which will be the end of them.   Portugal assuming they come 2nd to Germany will play Belgium so could stay alive.

However you are transferring out an Argentinian and a Spanish player who are a good bet to go all the way.  So you are potentially sacrificing 2 transfers.

What of Rodriguez and Shaqiri.  Switzerland had a good defensive record in qualifying.  The Bayern Munich player Shaqiri is the undoubted star of the Swiss team and should be in line for Star Man awards  in the easier games.  Last season he scored 7 goals and 4 assists in 27 games for Bayern in all competitions although he only averaged 45 minutes in those games due to sub appearances.

This is where you want to enter multiple teams!  I have had 2nd thoughts about Pedro for sure but is this the answer?  I have a few hours to think about it.  I’ll confirm my final team later
