Telegraph fantasy football 16/17 tips – picking out the bargains and TFF premium membership for less than a fiver

If you want the likes of Sergio Aguero, Alexis Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld in your XI, you have to make sacrifices across the rest of the pitch. Operating within the £50m budget isn’t easy and many attack minded Telegraph Fantasy Football managers like to cram their team full of expensive strikers which ultimately leaves you stretched for cash at the back.

Finding the bargains can really help you out. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are two prime examples of this – not many predicted the Leicester pair would take the Premier League by storm last year, but they went on to hit the summit of the TFF stats guide.

Finding these players early can be cruical to fantasy football success. In this article, we’ve had a hunt through the player list to find out who could be the 2016/17 bargain buys

Goalkeepers

Maarten Stekelenburg (£2.5m)

The Dutch shot-stopper has linked up with his fellow countryman Ronald Koeman at Everton and will be pushing Joel Robles to be number one. If he does get the nod then £2.5m could prove to be a steal, especially as Everton should improve defensively this season.

Eldin Jakupovic (£2.0m)

Although Hull could struggle this season, Eldin Jakupovic looks to be the cheapest of the guaranteed starters. Alan McGregor, the regular number one, is out injured until at least January so Jakupovic should deputise in his absence.

Defenders

George Friend (£2.8m)

The Middlesborough left-back loves to get forward and at just £2.8m represents good value in defence. Boro have added a host of quality players to their squad over the summer, including Victor Valdes and Alvaro Negredo, and many believe they’ll upset the odds this season.

Charlie Daniels (£3.0m)

Attacking full-backs don’t come much better than Charlie Daniels. Having been re-categorised from midfield to defence for TFF 16/17, the Bournemouth defender could rack up the points this season having taken penalties and set-pieces for the Cherries all of last year.

Midfielders

Jesse Lingard (£4.2m)

The Manchester United midfielder is one of the more attack minded players in this price bracket, with many players around the £4m mark playing the holding role. He scored against Leicester in the Community Shield on the weekend and regularly featured as one of the three behind the striker last season. If he can keep up the momentum Jose Mourinho will have no choice but to play him, making his £4.2m price tag well worth considering.

Mark Noble (£4.1m)

As West Ham’s captain, Noble is almost guaranteed a start every week. He chalked up 124 TFF points last season and will be responsible for all of the Hammers’ penalties in the 16/17 campaign. Seven goals and five key contributions was a decent return from Noble and the move to the Olympic Stadium could make West Ham a difficult side to beat this year.

Strikers

Troy Deeney (£5.1m)

Strikers are expensive by and large but £5.1m for the Watford captain seems reasonable. He takes penalties, creates plenty of goals and made 41 starting appearances for the Hornets last season, chalking up 15 goals and 13 key contributions in the process. Champions Leicester also saw a £25million bid turned down for Deeney earlier in the summer.

Andre Gray (£4.5m)

9% of TFF Managers have picked the Burnley forward and it’s easy to see why. He was the top scorer in the Championship last season with 25 goals, firing The Clarets to the title and securing their promotion back to the Premier League. His goals could keep Sean Dyche’s side in the top flight and if that turns out to be the case, at £4.5m you won’t find a better bargain anywhere in the game.
