Euro 2016

TFFeuro2016

After the rather perplexing McDonalds game it’s nice to see the simplicity of the Telegraph fantasy football European Championship format.  We take a quick look at the rules as a pre cursor to a series of articles on players and the FFGeek team

telegraph fantasy football European Championship comes to FFGeek

So here we’ll give a brief run down of the key points in the rules.  We’ll then put the rules in full and remind you of what we’ll be doing for TFF.

The rules in essence

So it’s the usual TFF format 11 players, no limit on team representation, no captain and no subs.

The points are fairly standard.  There’s a set number of transfers for the group stage and the knock out stage and you can make transfers between matches.

And amazingly that’s about it.  I’ll put the full rules below.

Coming up in future articles, we’ll do a separate section on the players as well as articles on the FFGeek team.  We’ll keep you posted on transfers that we do.

The team at the moment is an autocomplete team.  Although it could be worse I have to say.

The full rules

How To Play
You begin with a fantasy budget of £50m with which to buy 11 players in one of six formations. Your line-up can be changed as much as you like during the transfer amnesty, which runs right up until the first kick-off on Friday, June 10, 2016.

Your selected players then score points based on their performances in matches throughout the Euro 2016 tournament – and the aim of the game is to finish as high up the leaderboard as possible by scoring as many points as you can.

Points are earned for appearances, scoring goals, creating goals and keeping clean sheets and lost for yellow and red cards and for conceding goals etc. (see ‘Scoring Points’ for full details).

You’ll be able to follow your team scores during matches in real-time with TFF’s live scoring facility.

Selecting A Team
Select your team of 11 players by tapping on their names in the player list. Each player has been valued in £millions and the total value of your team must not exceed £50million.

There are no limits on the number of players you can select from any one country and you can choose from the six available formations.

You can click on the column headers in the player list to sort or take advantage of the filter options to help narrow down your search. Once you’re happy with your choices, submit your team, give it a name and continue on to registration and payment.

Remember, you can change your players as much as you like, as often as you like until the first kick-off on Friday, June 10, 2016.

Making Transfers
You can change your eleven players as much as you like during the initial transfer amnesty, which runs up until the first kick off on Friday, June 10, 2016.
You will then have 26 transfers to use during the group stage of the tournament opportunity with which to replace injured, suspended and under-performing players with fresh faces to keep your points tally ticking over. Any transfers not used during this period will not be carried over.
There will be another amnesty following the conclusion of the group stage, so you can change your entire team at that point if you like. This will run until the first kick-off on Saturday, June 25, 2016.
Another 20 transfers will then be made available for you to use during the knockout stage of the tournament.

Transfers can be made between matches, so any players transferred in will start scoring from the next kick-off.

Scoring Points
Your selected players will score points as follows:

All players:
Starting XI appearance (2 pts)
Substitute appearance (1 pt)
Goal scored (5 pts) (inc. penalty shootouts)
Key Contribution (3 pts)
Red card (-3 pts)
Yellow card (-1 pt)
Missed penalty (-2 pts) (inc. penalty shootouts)
Own Goal (-3 pts)

Goalkeepers only:
Penalty save (5pts) (inc. penalty shootouts)

Goalkeepers/defenders only:
Full clean sheet – player plays 60 mins or more (5 pts)
Part clean sheet – player plays fewer than 60 mins (2 pts)
First goal conceded (0 pts)
Each additional goal conceded (-1 pt)

In order to earn a full clean sheet bonus (5 points), your player must complete at least 60 minutes of the match and his team must keep a clean sheet for the entire match (including extra-time but excluding shootouts).
If a player is on the pitch for less than 60 minutes and his team keeps a clean sheet for the full match (including extra-time but excluding shootouts), he’ll score a part clean sheet bonus (2 points).
All players still earn +2 points for being in the starting XI of a match and +1 for coming on as a substitute.
So, for example, if your player starts the match, plays an hour or more, and his team finishes the match with a clean sheet – then your goalkeeper/defender will score +7 points.
