Here’s a quick telegraph fantasy football article on the FA Cup and my view on how to approach it.

Telegraph fantasy football – Thoughts on the FA Cup and the 3rd round

Teams that will compete in the FA Cup and one off transfers

The days of the FA Cup being a priority for every team has long gone.  The teams that will take the early rounds seriously are those that are either not in Europe or competing for Europe and those not having relegation issues.  That leaves a fairly small group at the moment arguably of  Swansea, West Ham, Stoke and maybe Southampton although they are fairly and suarely  in a European challenge.  Unfortunately the risk with any team for the 4th round is that the rotation that will occur due to the amount of games just played.  The fact that all teams played on Thursday New Years day exacerbates that risk.

The advantage of telegraph fantasy football is that you can see the team line up and make transfers before kick off for the first games of the day.

However here are the players that warrant selection for those teams above not faced with Europe or relegation risk:

Swansea:  Sigurdsson (Swansea are away to Tranmere on Saturday and you will see the team sheet before kick off)

West Ham:  Downing, Carroll (away to Everton so no fixture advantage but you will see the team sheet on Tuesday)

Stoke:  Alot of team rotation makes it difficult

Southampton:  Bertrand, Tadic and Pelle (Home to Ipswich on Sunday.  You won’t see the team sheet before kick off so there is rotation risk here)

With only 30 transfers for the season I’m personally against 1 off transfers where you put a player in and then immediately take him out for 1 juicy fixture.  The fact that it’s a juicy fixture means rotation risk so if you’re going to do that you need to see the team sheet.  However if you’re over loaded with transfers the games to look at are:

WBA v Gateshead (Berahino)

Wimbledon v Liverpool (whoever is named as striker)

Longer term transfers where you will see the team sheet

These are the first games of the day where you will see the team sheet before the transfer deadline and you can use that time to put in a player of longer term value.

Here are the premier league games where you will see the team sheet before the deadline:

Saturday 3pm KO:

Leicester v Newcastle:  No one

Tranmere v Swansea:  Sigurdsson

WBA v Gateshead:  Berahino

Sunday 1pm KO:

Dover v Crystal Palace:  no one

QPR v Sheffield Utd:  Charlie Austin, Leroy Fer

Sunderland v Leeds:  Adam Johnson

Monday 19.45/55 KO

Burnley v Tottenham:  Ings, Chadli, Harry Kane

Wimbledon v Liverpool:  Sterling

Tuesday 19.45 KO

Everton v West Ham:  Downing Carroll

Hope that gives you some food for thought for your teams.  I’ll tweet and facebook any changes I make to my teams.  Any comments or tips please put them in the comments below.

Good luck
