telegraph fantasy football tips – 10 midfielders for your TFF team

Here’s 10 midfielders at varying prices for your TFF team. At this stage it’s too early to be thinking of the FA Cup and it’s a case of looking for the best midfielders with the best fixtures. We use last years stats and up coming fixtures as a way of ranking the prospects

I’ve left out a number of players that are either a gametime doubt due to selection, lack of match fitness or injury as follows:

Match fitness: Payet, Ozil, De Bruyne, Sigurdsson and Pogba

Selection: Mkhitarayan, Pedro, Yaya Toure

Injury: Milner, Lanzini

Payet, Ozil and De Bruyne are key players for TFF with the key contribution rule giving a wider definition to an assist.  You may choose to have them in your team rather than use a transfer when they are match fit.

Mahrez £5.0m

Games 15/16:  36 (1)  Goals/KC:  17/13  Points per game:  5.2

Incredible season last season even if it tailed off a little towards the end.  A good first fixture at Hull to start things off although the first 6 overall are mixed to say the least..  It’s just whether the off filed transfer saga’s following him around are a distraction.

First 6 fixtures:

Hull (A)
Arsenal (H)
Swansea (H)
Liverpool (A)
Burnley (H)
Man Utd (A)

Sanchez £6.0m

Games 15/16:  30 (3)  Goals/KC:  14/12  Points per game:  5.1

He’s expensive but it’s a massive bonus to be classified as a midfielder rather than a forward.  Been slow to get back into pre-season but last week against Man City showed that he’s ready to start.  May suffer some rotation once the Champions League started but until then will be a vital part of Arsenals attack.  Fixtures aren’t great to start but Sanchez can score against anyone

Liverpool (H)
Leicester (A)
Watford (A)
Southampton (H)
Hull (A)
Chelsea (H)

Eriksen £5.2m

Games 15/16:  36 (3)  Goals/KC:  7/23  Points per game:  4.5

The Spurs attacking midfielder is the definition of a key contribution with the majority of set pieces being his responsibility.  One of the leading creator of chances in the league. Rested with a good pre-season and kind fixtures to start after Everton he should be ready to hit the ground running.

Everton (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (H)
Stoke (A)
Sunderland (H)
Middlesbrough (A)

Tadic £4.6m

Games 15/16:  27 (8)  Goals/KC:  8/16  Points per game:  4.2

Considering the amount of sub appearances it’s a pretty impressive points per game last season.  A good share of set pieces plus penalty duties means in all likelihood he will be a great prospect this season in TFF.  Also played pre-season in a very advanced position.  Rested over the summer with a good pre-season. Fixtures are a little mixed though

Watford (H)
Man Utd (A)
Sunderland (H)
Arsenal (A)
Swansea (H)
West Ham (A)

Firmino £5.1m

Games 15/16:  24 (7)  Goals/KC:  10/9  Points per game:  4.2

The Liverpool attacking midfielder could play striker with Sturridge injured unless Origi is selected to start.  A great finisher although not that productive on the assist front. Liverpool’s fixtures could be better but Liverpool are an unpredictable beast as their demolition of Barcelona showed.

Arsenal (A)
Burnley (A)
Spurs (A)
Chelsea (A)
Hull (H)

Hazard £5.8m

Games 15/16:  27 (6)  Goals/KC:  7/10  Points per game:  3.7

Last season couldn’t have been much worse for the player of the season in 14/15.  That’s reflected in his score above.  However he showed at the end of last season and in the Euros that he could be on the way back to his best.

West Ham (H)
Watford (A)
Burnley (H)
Swansea (A)
Liverpool (H)
Arsenal (A)

Silva £5.6m

Games 15/16:  22 (2)  Goals/KC:  1/15  Points per game:  4.0

A single goal for the Man City midfielder shows that things can only improve this season.  Consistently one of the leading chance creators with at least a share of set pieces.   The good fixtures to start for Man City should see some decent returns

Sunderland (H)
Stoke (A)
West Ham (H)
Man Utd (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Swansea (A)

Barkley £4.6m

Games 15/16:  40 (2)  Goals/KC:  10/17  Points per game:  4.2

Incredibly inconsistent and patchy last season were the watch woeds for the Everton central attacking midfielder.  However a good set of early fixtures after the Spurs game and a new manager could be the breath of fresh air he needs to improve this season

Spurs (H)
West Brom (A)
Stoke (H)
Sunderland (A)
Middlesbrough (H)
Bournemouth (A)

Fischer £3.6m

The new entrant to the premier league with Middlesborough.  The former Ajax winger had a good record last season although his gametime was fairly patchy.  That and a  reasonable set of fixtures to start with are the key to his selection.  The worry is the lack of attacking intent we may see from Middlesborough who are a team based on a solid defence

Stoke (H)
Sunderland (A)
West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Everton (A)
Spurs (H)

Gradel £3.6m

 Games 15/16:  11 (3)  Goals/KC:  1/5  Points per game:  3.1

The Bournemouth winger is another cheap option who after a promising start last season suffered a serious knee injury.  Fixtures are very mixed but he has the experience and talent to produce

Man Utd (H)
West Ham (A)
Crystal Palace (A)
West Brom (H)
Man City (A)
Everton (H)
