Telegraph fantasy football tips – Interview with FFGeek league winner John Peacock

1.  Congratulations on winning the FFGeek league and your overall position John.
Thanks for the congrats, I always try to win and have fun as well, but winning was a pleasent surprise as there was a lot of tough competition and this was only my second year playing Telegraph FF.
2.  Do have you have a general strategy for playing the game that you could share?
My strategy is simple and probably similar to most.. cheap but reliable defenders that dont need to be swapped, then rotate the attacking players when injuries occur or someone hits a hot streak of scoring points. Also try to include players that may go all the way in the FA cup, but this is very hit and miss!!
3.  I’ve always struggled with the lack of transfers and the FA Cup.  I generally feel that the players in the top 6ish teams should dominate your team but the lack of subs and rotation generally (especially in the FA Cup) make it difficult.  How do you overcome these  issues?
I try to spread my transfers and do no more than 3 in a month, if I do use more then I cut back the following month – if possible. The FA cup is always unpredictable , so I try not to panic if players aren’t playing and make silly wasteful transfers.Patience sometimes pays off -its a marathon not a sprint.
4.  There are so many tempting ties for the 3rd round FA Cup?  Do you save transfers?
I look on the FA cup as bonus points , sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.Squad rotation is a problem, but I try to have as many regular players as possible, someone picking up points each game with assists is sometimes better than someone scoring a goal now and then.
5.  What was your best decision and your worst one this season?
My best decision was to have the best Liverpool players and no Man Utd players lol, and my worst was leaving out Dzeko when he had a good run – wasted transfers on Negredo and Aguero.
6.  Do you play any other formats
I have tried Sky Sports FF, Facebook FF and Fantasy Prem League , but I find that having limited time the Telegraph FF is the best.
So certainly an interesting look at his view of tactics.  Not focusing so much on the FA Cup was certainly interesting and the transfer rationing.  Hope you found it useful.
