Here’s my review of the telegraph fantasy football world cup 2014 format.

Telegraph Fantasy Football World Cup 2014 – format review

Overview

You can find this format at www.fantasyfootball.telegraph.co.uk

A fairly simple format and fairly consistent with the telegraph premier league format if you’re familar with that.  There’s a prize pool of £20k.  I believe although I can’t find where it’s  stated explicitly that there’s a restriction on UK users only.  It seems the only restrictions on number of teams relates to how much you want to pay.  1 team is £3.

It’s an 11 player format with no substitutes and a number of different formations.  Interestingly there’s no limit on the amount of players you can have from one country

The scoring is very similar (if not the same) as the premier league format which is very straightforward.  It’s based on goals, assists and clean sheets.  There’s no captain points and no bonus points.

It’s an interesting transfer format with 40 transfers for the whole tournament and no restrictions on when you can do it.  You can make transfers in between matches.  The budget increases from £50m to £60m for the knockout stages

There’s a mobile app and loads of different league and prize options related to this

A very straightforward format.  The scoring system is simple and easy and very objective.  The freedom with transfers and team selection means you have all the freedom you want to potentially dig your own grave so there will need to be alot of discipline and thought. The transfers between matches means you will have to be fairly on the ball constantly throughout the tournament.

I’ve entered a team into this format.  If you’re interested then the league is called FANTASY FOOTBALL GEEK WC2014 and the PIN is 8000919

Each player has been given a £M value by the Telegraph judges and your total budget in the group stages is £50m.

There is no limit to the number of players you can choose from any one country and you can from six formations:

SCORING POINTS

Your selected players score points in the following ways.  The left had table is for all players and the right hand for DEFs and GKs

TRANSFERS

You can tinker with your team as much as you like right up until the first World Cup match kicks off at 9pm on June 12. After that you’ll have 40 transfers to use during the tournament so you can replace injured, suspended and under-performing players with fresh faces to keep your points tally ticking over.

Transfer between matches!
You can change your team right up until the scheduled kick off of any match during the tournament – and they will score points from you in that match. So you can make transfers between matches – which means you can wait to see the confirmed team line-ups before making a move.

Knock-out stages – increased budget
You start with a £50m budget to spend on players for the group stage and then, after the 48 group matches, your budget increases to £60m for the final 16 knock-out matches. So use your transfers wisely!
