Here’s my final review of the format at www.fantasyleague.com going by the name of the original fantasy league for the World Cup 2014.

World Cup 2014 fantasy league format review

Overview

This format can be found at www.fantasyleague.com

All though all the prizes are in English Pounds Sterling there’s nothing to suggest people from outside the UK can’t enter.  It has a prize pool of £10k.  It’s pay to enter with each team costing £5 to enter.

You have a squad of 15 players although 11 in your line up score points in 3 formations. The 4 subs are of fixed position to fit in with the allowed formations.  There are 6 game phases and you can make up to 5 transfers in each although only 15 transfers in total.  Interestingly it seems that you make substitutions and transfers between stages and between matches to maximise points.

You can have 2 players from each country prior to the knockouts and 4 afterwards

The points system is simple with points are scored with goals, assists and clean sheets.  Points are doubled for the knockout phases.  There is no captain or bonus points.

There are a number of different league options.

I couldn’t see anything to confirm if there’s a mobile app

A fairly simple format if a little time consuming due to the sub and transfer rules.  It’s another format with a small amount of transfers so you need to use your transfers sparingly to field a full team throughout the competition.  The 15 man sqaud does help that though

I have entered a team into the competition.  The league is called fantasy football geek WC2014.  The league PIN is 24738

Full Rules

Here’s a copy and paste from the site.  I haven’t included quite lengthy definitions on the site relating to goals assists etc

KEY TEAM SELECTION RULES AND GAME PHASES

You have a budget of £150m which you must use to select a squad of 15 players

Your starting line up must consist of 11 players, in one of the three valid Fantasy League international formations, being 4-4-2, 4-3-3 and 5-3-2.

You can make changes (transfers and substitutions) to your starting line up until the scheduled kick-off of each match, with the 11 players in your starting line up at the kick off of each match being eligible to score points for your team during that match.

To keep the rivalry and drama going throughout the tournament, and to give you more chances to win, we’ve split the game into six ‘Game Phases’.

You can make up to five transfers in a Game Phase, up to a tournament total of 15 transfers for your team.

The number of players per country available to pick for your team (“country quota” in the table below) starts off at two and increases to four during the knockouts.

The Game Phase dates are as follows:

Your team will score points based upon how your chosen players perform during the World Cup 2014 tournament.

Only players who have been selected for your starting eleven, in a valid formation, will score points.

Substitutes in your Fantasy League team will not score any points for your team, unless they are brought into your team before scheduled kick-off.

For Fantasy League Classic World Cup 2014, all points count double during the knockouts.
