Sun Dream Team, Telegraph fantasy football, World Cup 2018

Here’s our  World Cup fantasy football quarter finals article for Saturday 7 July which is based on our FFGeek team updates for the McDonalds FIFA format, Sun Dream Team and Telegraph Fantasy Football World Cup.  There’s also the probable lineups and injuries for today’s games of England v Sweden and Russia v Croatia

Days and times in UK time for the quarter finals:

The winners of Fridays ie France and Belgium will play in one semi final and the winners of Saturday the other

McDonalds

Total points 228.  Overall rank 36k.  No Wildcard or Maximum captain used

An ok day saw a 9k improvement in rank.

Interestingly the removal of Brazil means keeping my wildcard for the semis rather than using it for the quarters was a good decision as I will now find it useful with the semis as I already have 5 non players confirmed for the semis.  That will go to a minimum of 8 depending on results today

Knockout phase changes

You need to make your captain changes and substitutions before the first kick off of 3pm UK time Saturday 7 July

Make sure you make the changes in the quarter final tab.  It defaults to the semis so it’s easy to make them in the wrong area especially on the desk top version

I’m going to make 2 substitutions today:

Miranda 1 point out for Granqvist

Meunier 1 point out for Clasesson

My captain change will be to Kane

I will, at least, tweet these changes around 2pm today when the lineups are out.  Here’s the team with the substitutions unconfirmed and no captain changes made.

If you’re looking for stats on potential players for their clubs for today here are my key articles.  Remember though they were done prior to the tournament so you need to see at least how much they played in the Group stages and the round of 16  before you pick anyone and also look at the probable lineups below

Sun Dream Team

Total points 281 Overall Rank 39k  transfers used 17 out of 20

A bad day saw a 13k deterioration in rank.   Brazil going out leaves a major hole in my team.

In retrospect you can transfer a player for a game after the first 1 in a match day as long as the player out’s team hasn’t played on the matchday and the player in’s team hasn’t played on the match day.  Here’s the rules which I think I interpreted incorrectly at first.    The Sun Live chat have verified it as did some other managers who have used it so it seems safe

An eligible transfer will take immediate effect and will occur if you transfer a Player out for another Player where neither the outgoing Player’s Country nor the incoming Player’s Country have played during that Match Day.

If you’re looking for stats on potential players for today here are my key articles with stats mainly for their clubs.  Remember though they were done prior to the tournament so you need to see at the very least how much they played in the Group stages and the round of 16 and appear in the probable lineups below

Transfers

At the moment I’m not making any transfers today even with the loss of 4 players.  I feel I have enough exposure to England with 3 players and I don’t have enough confidence in the Russia v Croatia game to bet on the outcome of that.  It’s possible Sterling won’t start but that still won’t effect my decision as I think he could be a decent impact.

If I change my mind I will at least tweet any transfers about 2pm or  6pm UK time on Saturday

Here’s the team as of today prior to any transfers with Fridays points showing.

Telegraph fantasy football

The standard team:  Total points 309 Overall Rank 17.2k  transfers used 3 out of 20 in for the remainder of the tournament

The Def Block team:  Total points 323 Overall Rank 12.1k  transfers used 8 out of 20 in for the remainder of the tournament

In the telegraph you definitely can make transfers between matches.

the standard team

So no real movement in rank with an OR to 17.2k

So I have enough transfers up my sleeve to replace all the players lost so here are the transfers planned:

T Silva out Vrsaljko Croatia Def in

Fagner out Trippier in

Coutinho out Sterling or Perisic (Croatia mid) in.  I’ve yet to decide.

Neymar out Mandzukic (Croatia Fwd) in

I will at least tweet any transfers probably around 2pm or 6pm UK time on Saturday.

Here’s how the team looks with the transfers unconfirmed

the defensive block team

A small drop in rank of 1k although the block failed completely

I had a few comments about the Brazil block but it’s something I’ve done as an experiment so I’m going to see it through.

Today I’m going to switch to an England block.

I will at least tweet those transfers around 2pm UK time or 6pm if I make any further which I doubt

Here’s the team then as it stands:
