Match and player comment

Unfortunately, I haven’t seen this game so I can’t give you this

Sun Dream Team scoring:

Switzerland:  Lichsteiner, Inler, Xhaka, Shaqiri and Drimic all got 7’s.   Sub Mehmedi was the Star Man

Ecuador:  Montero, E Valencia and Caicedo all got 7’s.

France 3 Honduras 0

Goals:  Benzema 2  Assists:  Evra Pogba

Lineups

France (4-3-3): Lloris, Varane, Sakho, Debuchy, Evra, Cabaye (Mavuba 65′), Pogba (Sissoko 57′), Matuidi, Valbuena (Giroud 78′), Griezmann, Benzema

Honduras (4-4-2): Valladares, Beckeles, Bernardez (Chavez 45′), Figueroa, Izaguirre, Najar (Claros 58′), Garrido, Palacios, Espinoza, Costly, Bengston (Garcia 45′)

Lineup comment:

France:  In the end France played with 1 striker in Benzema with Griezmann starting.  Otherwise as expected.

Honduras:  Najar started instead of Garcia otherwise as expected

Match comment:

A game that Honduras saw no interest in participating in and  just looked like they wanted to foul their way into slowing the game.  They sat incredibly deep and looked to frustate play wherever they could.  Their approach got worse after their sending off

Player comment:

Pogba

A popular choice but the box to box ability was negated by the negative attitude of the Honduras players.  Was subbed early after getting a yellow card.

Benzema

A great all round performance with a near hat trick and looks a real option for the remaining Group games.

Matuidi

Was a real threat going forward with a number of shots.  Not really good value on TFF and Fox Sports though.

Griezmann

Had been in great goal scoring form and while had a few chances wasn’t able to finish.

Sun Dream Team scoring

France:  Debuchy, Matuidi, Pogba, Cabaye and Griezmann all got 7’s.  Valbuena 8 and Benzema Star Man at 9

Honduras:  Only the GK Valladares got a 7

Argentina 2 Bosnia 1

Goals:  OG, Messi/Ibisevic  Assists:  Higuain/Lulic

Lineups:

Argentina (5-3-2-> 3-4-1-2): Romero, Rojo, Campagnaro (Gago 45’), Fernandez, Garay, Zabaleta, Rodriguez (Higuain 45’), Mascherano, Di Maria, Messi, Aguero (Biglia 86’).

Bosnia (4-2-3-1-> 4-1-3-2): Begovic, Bicakcic, Spahic, Mujzda (Ibisevic 70’), Kolasinac, Besic, Pjanic, Lulic, Misimovic (Medunjanin 74’), Hajrovic (Visca 71’), Dzeko

Lineup comment:

Argentina:  Played 5 at the back with Campagnaro coming in for Higuain effectively as the extra defender.  Gago also didn’t start with Rodriguez starting.

Bosnia:  Only played 1 striker, that being Dzeko so Ibisevic was on the bench with midfielder Hajrovic starting

Match comment:

A game which was billed as an unstoppable attack against a porous defence didn’t turn out like that at all.  Argentina up to the last 3rd of the game were poor going forward and far too slow and ponderous with the ball.  On the other hand the Bosnian defence was fantastic.  They pressed well and got numbers to players.  Pjanic especially was brilliant.  However Messi only needs one chance and he took it.

Player comment:

Messi:

For most of the game he looked like the Messi of Barca.  Drifting deep and looking disinterested.  However one trade mark burst lead to a fantastic goal and after that he brightened up.  Nigeria and Iran will not provide the test that Bosnia did and there should be more to come.

Aguero:

Very quiet and disappointing.  Had one characteristic chance but fluffed it.  Again the next 2 Group games will be a lot easier.

Di Maria:

Another poor performance from a player in such great form prior to this.  As for Aguero you’re relying on better Group fixtures to come

Dzeko

Struggled against a better than expected defence from Argentina.  Better fixtures will see returns.

Sun Dream Team scoring

Argentina:  The GK Romero got 8.  Messi was the Star Man with 8 which seemed a little generous for 1 piece of brilliance.

Bosnia:  Begovic, Hajrovic, Besic and Lulic got 7’s.  Pjanic rightly got an 8.  I thought the scoring was a little harsh and there should have been more 7’s

Key players for day 4

Germany v Portugal

Both these teams have by far and away the toughest game of their Group here and it’s worth thinking whether now is the time to use a transfer to put someone in.  Certainly there should be goals in this game and difficult to see that you would introduce a defender

Gotze

If you play a format that you can see the team sheet such as TFF and if he makes the team and plays as a forward then he maybe worth a gamble.  The risk is that he doesn’t hold it for the easier games going forward.

Muller

To me the most reliable starter and the best scoring midfielder.

Schurrle

As for Gotze if he starts he has a real scoring ability.  Particularly in this game which will suit his counter attacking ability.  Rotation in future games is the risk.

Ronaldo

I don’t think I need to add anything.  Apparently fit.  It’s only whether you want to see how he fit  he is after the injury and how he performs before you add him to your team

Iran v Nigeria

I think Iran will struggle but if you’re looking for some cheapie options

Ghoochannejad

The best striker with a good international record for Iran

Dejagh/ Nekounam

The 2 best attacking midfield options for Iran

Emenike

The top Nigerian striker.  Good International record.

Moses

Should  have pens.  Ok International record

Nigeria defence

A cheapie option although clean sheets outside of this fixture will be difficult.  Oboabona is probably the best option for me.

Ghana v USA

Gyan

The forward is the best attacking option by some distance.

Dempsey

Would be my best option for USA.

Wondolowski

If he starts he is a good goals scoring option.  Difficult Group though going forward

Thats it.  Enjoy the day and good luck today
