Kolasinacs

The Arsenal left wing back is priced at £6.0m and owned by 6.8% of FPL managers

The potential of wing backs last season was shown by Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso who was second only to Garry Cahill in FPL defenders for points despite playing 600 minutes less.

With Arsenal finishing the season strongly in 16/17 using the 3-4-2-1 formation Kolasinac’s looks the favourite to start in the wing back position. He’s already looking menacing in pre-season raiding forward at every opportunity.  While alot of sides have experimented with 3-4-3 Arsenal look one of the few sides virtually guaranteed to play it consistently.

The first 6 fixtures are a little mixed but the 3 home games give an excellent chance of attacking returns and a clean sheet.

First 6 fixtures of the season:

Leicester (H)
Stoke (A)
Liverpool (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)

Mkhitaryan

The Man Utd attacking midfielder is available in FPL for £8.0m and is owned by a only 5.5% of FPL managers

Any player who can be the Bundesliga player of the season,  finishing with 11 goals and 20 assists and not play in Bayern Munich has to have something special.  Thats Mkhitaryan in 15/16.  However, 16/17 was underwhelming and he finished with 4 goals and 1 assist only starting 14 PL games as he struggled to adjust to the league and the requirements of Jose Mourinho.

However he has been outstanding in pre-season with 3 goals and 2 assists and that coupled with his finishing form in the Europa League last season gives us great hope for the new season.  Man Utd also have excellent fixtures.

First 6 fixtures of the season:

 West Ham (H)
Swansea (A)
Leicester (H)
Stoke (A)
Everton (H)
Southampton (A)

Ramsey

The £7.0m Arsenal box to box midfielder is owned by just 4.6% of FPL managers

Aaron Ramsey has struggled to replicate his sensational season of 13/14 where he scored 10 goals and 9 assists in 21 starts and 2 sub appearances.  This was done at a rate of a goal or assist every 93 minutes.  That is something that Aguero would not turn his nose up at.

Since then he’s underwhelmed and not convinced Wenger he deserves a regular starting spot.

However the switch by Wenger to 3-4-2-1 at the end of last season freed Ramsey up to a large extent from his defensive duties and saw him score 1 goal and 3 assists in 6 starts plus 2 as sub.  This was at a very commendable rate of a goal or assist every 137 minutes.    Only 2 players produced better per minute figures for the price last season in the premier league.

Wenger looks likely to continue this formation with Ramsey in that same position and some excellent home fixtures in the first 6 games give him every chance to continue that form.

First 6 fixtures of the season:

Leicester (H)
Stoke (A)
Liverpool (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Chelsea (A)
West Brom (H)

Phillips

The £6.0m WBA right sided midfielder is owned by 2.9% of FPL managers

Firstly it’s worth noting that Phillips is an injury monitor due to a tight hamstring meaning he wasn’t risked for their most recent pre-season friendly.

Last season he produced 4 goals and 9 assists in 27 starts at a rate of  a goal or assist every 168 minutes.  Only 2 players produced better per minute figures for the price last season in the premier league. Phillips though has the advantage of excellent starting fixtures and also share of set pieces in a side with strong aerial presence.

First 6 fixtures of the season:

Bournemouth (H)
Burnley (A)
Stoke (H)
Brighton (A)
West Ham (H)
Arsenal (A)

Iheanacho

The former Man City forward has joined Leicester for £25m.  He’s priced in FPL at £7.0m and is owned by a mere 1.6% of FPL managers.

Iheanacho, when he was on the pitch, for Man City had sensational returns.  In 16/17 he scored 4 goals and 3 assists in 5 starts and 15 sub appearances.  In 15/16 he scored 8 goals in 7 starts and 19 sub appearances.  Both were at the rate of a goal or assist every 77 minutes which is truly sensational.  Only Jesus and super sub and possible transfer away Giroud had better returns in the premier league as forwards last season.

While it’s unlikely Iheanacho will get the same amount of goal scoring chances at Leicester he’s shown he can finish.  Leicester poor goal scoring record will mean that it will be hard for Shakespeare to not throw him in straight away.  Football betting markets suggest he has the same prospect of finishing top scorer in the premier league as his team mate Jamie Vardy who’s £1.5m more expensive

How he adjusts to being a starter and playing in a team with low amounts of possession compared to Man City who dominates possession are the challenges

Brighton (H)
Man Utd (A)
Chelsea (H)
Huddersfield (A)
Liverpool (H)
