Barclays fantasy premier league – my gameweek 3 team

Here’s my Barclays fantasy premier league league team for gameweek 3
Well I’ve been agonising over this gameweek what feels like no other and in the end I made no changes!.  If you saw my imaginary wildcard team you can see where I’m looking to go with my team so it was a matter of deciding where to go first.  The transfer that has tempted me all week is the transfer of Ivanovic out Clichy in for what should be the most nailed on clean sheet imaginable.  However I resisted it for 2 reasons.  Firstly Kompany at £6.4m (and maybe even less over the international break) feels like the right City defender to have due to the CB emphasis in bonus points and due to his goal threat.  While I could have got that with Nastasic, who I believe will partner Kompany (who is saying he will return after the international break), its firstly not guaranteed he will start today and even if he does its not guaranteed that I can predict who Pellegrini will select when kompany returns or that Pepe or someone such like wont be coming through the door in the next 24 hours.  So tempting that the transfer was for what seems 6 guaranteed points I decided not to take the option.
I also thought about the JWP transfer for Hazard as Hazard was going down in value and ultimately I was going to ditch him to reinforce my front line.  In the end I decided to leave it.  I’d like to see JWP start at Norwich to feel secure and I also thought that Hazard’s price would at least stabilise over the international break.  Depending on the trend I may do the transfer early in the week if JWP starts for Saints and the Hazard trend is to sell.  I’d rather not though as the International break is rife with injuries and 2 transfers will be good cover for the period.  While in my imaginary wildcard I went for Sturridge I haven’t ruled out Benteke as he’s home to Newcastle in GW4 and away to Norwich in GW5 which are 2 very good fixtures.
I did even think about an Aguero swap for RVP at 11.25am BST and then a swap back at 11.35am BST to maximise the captain opportunities over fantasy premier league GW3/gw4 but that again seemed a little short term.
So anyway now you know what was going on in my fantasy premier league head during this week . I wasn’t the most efficient corporate drone at work this week that’s for sure!  I’m expecting to fall back quite a bit in the rankings this week without the City coverage as Aguero and Dzeko/Negredo go on the rampage but it feels like the right thing to do.  It will mean I’ll be watching the City game either from behind the sofa or with my hands covering my eyes every time Negredo/Dzeko or Aguero get the ball unfortunately.  I also have loads of people playing each other so if Walcott scores no clean sheet for Dawson, RVP scores no clean sheet for Mignolet etc  Anyway enough,  here’s the team unchanged after all that with Silva as captain:

    • Hi. Rajat I did think long and hard aout him as I’m a big fan but While I could have got the Bonus point emphasis with Nastasic, who I believe will partner Kompany (who is saying he will return after the international break), its firstly not guaranteed he will start today and even if he does its not guaranteed that I can predict who Pellegrini will select when kompany returns or that Pepe or someone such like wont be coming through the door in the next 24 hours. So tempting that the transfer was for what seems 6 guaranteed points I decided not to take the option.

      cheers and good luck

    • I would captain Silva as I think Negredo will start but I’ve been wrong in predicting Pellegrini before. It depends on how much risk you want to take. If dzeko starts then he could get anything, he could even do the business in the last 30 minutes, its just whether you want to take the risk of seeing him ot on the team sheet and relying on him scoring in the last 30

      cheers and good luck

      • Went with Dzeko as I’ve got a decent risk appetite this early in the season… Fingers crossed he does well. Had a walcott hunch too given underlying stats and NLD high-scoring history but just think Spurs are too defensively sound so far.

Good luck this weekend, love the site.

  1. What is your thinking behind playing Anelka? He didn’t really do anything in GM1, I decided to transfer him out for Chamakh. I hope I haven’t made the wrong decision. :p

  2. Hi, great site. Last night, I’ve decided to sell Cole and bring in Zabaleta. That transfer works out today, 9 points.

  3. I’ve seen enough of the new BPs to decide to change strategy – I’ve played by WC and i’m going to spend the next 2 weeks chasing the bandwagons to earn as much cash as poss.

For the next GW my team is going to consist of 4 (poss even 5) elite team defenders, Walcot and Lampard with 3 cheapies in mid and RVP, Sturridge and Soldado up front

What do you reckon? Squad will most likely be

    Migno, (Davis)
    Ivanovic, Dawson, Koscielny, Zabaleta, Collins
    Walcott, Lampard, (Barkley, JWP, Brady)
    RVP, Sturridge, Soldado

    Thoughts would be most welcome

  4. Admin – you’ll be relieved you didn’t transfer in Clichy!
Will – it looks a terrific XV for the moment, but long term?
Firstly, I doubt all these clean sheets will last; secondly I’d be worritd about your midfield – only Wally and Brady are regular starters. Barkley and JWP are kids and will likely do like Sterling last season and fade away.
I’m going to WC but I’m waiting for the tranny window to close and check international injuries. You, like I, will doubtless change your WC squad around a hundred times before the GW4 window closes!

  5. Help!

Was messing with transfers this morning as if I were going to use my WC and my son accidentally pressed ‘Confirm Transfers’ and so I’ve taken a 16 point hit, do I use my WC now to make sure I don’t get a points hit or does it not work that way?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    • yeah you will be fine mate if you use your WC. from the site

A wildcard allows you to make unlimited free transfers throughout a Gameweek. Playing a wildcard will remove any points deductions from transfers already made in the same Gameweek.

      Cheers

    • Similar thing happened to me. Unfortunately I found out too late and took a 40 point hit! At least my team look much better now.

  6. Great analysis as always.
I’m WCing and have had Soldado from the start but I was wondering how you feel about Benteke ahead of Soldado due to the fact that Spurs have not really been convincing so far and they have a lot of new players that may take a while to sort themselves out whereas Benteke seems to be able to score against anyone…..
