Introduction

This article consists of a schedule ranking forwards based on their underlying stats over the season of the season. xG and xA per game are converted to FPL attacking points. Stats are from the excellent free site FBREF Players injured or suspended or with significant gametime risk are excluded from the schedule.

There’s also their FPL points per match as well as their value for money rating. The higher the better. Above 10 is the gold standard

The rankings are purely mathematical and there is no adjustment for fixtures coming up. The attacking players fixture ease schedule is below

Prices are as of 13 December

Note The Brentford v Man Utd game is in doubt due to Covid and there must still be doubt over Leicester v Spurs but I have not excluded players from these clubs for that reason.

The ranking schedule

As I said above the rankings are based on their xG and xA per game converted to FPL attacking points

There is no adjustment to a players rank for fixtures upcoming

Transfer suggestions for GW17

Ideally I’m looking for players that have a good entry point fixture as well as a good overall fixture ranking in the upcoming 6 gameweeks plus represent overall value for money and consistency of performances. The suggestions are not in any particular order

Form from forwards has been rather thin on the ground and there are only 4 I would suggest as transfers in.

Ronaldo

There’s no doubt that Ronaldo and Man Utd were terrible against Norwich but 4 goals and 2 assists in his last 6 starts is still pretty decent and his underlying stats in volume and quality are good as well.

He also has a pretty decent set of fixtures ahead starting with a good entry point at Brentford.

The major question is whether the game goes ahead but it is the first game of GW17 so we will know before the deadline. However a worsening situation could see GW18 be postponed even if GW17 goes ahead so keep an eye out for news on Tuesday

Antonio

After a flying start in his first 3 games it’s just 2 goals and 1 assists in his last 12 games. A good set of fixtures coming up including Norwich in GW18 plus other fires to fight is the only reason FPL managers still have him in their team.

While his underlying stats over the season are good in his last 6 games he’s only produced 1 decent set of underlying stats and produced virtually nothing at the weekend v Burnley who have been one of the poorest defensive sides around.

This is about whether you believe the fixtures give hope that early season and last season’s Antonio still exists or whether even the good fixtures will not address what you see as a permanent decline in performance going forward

King

5 goals and 3 assists from 13 starts plus 1 as sub returning a goal or assist in 5 of those 13 starts (38%) are ok returns and his underlying stats do provide value for his price. Until last week he had the advantage of playing centrally and he should continue to have pens. Watford also have a decent run of fixtures with Burnley next.

Dennis

With 4 goals and 3 assists in his last 5 games he’s certainly a man in form and looks great in recent performances. 3 goals and 3 assists before that also isn’t a disaster and it’s possible that he now has the CF spot from Josh King.

Overall it’s 7 goals and 6 assists in 14 starts plus 1 as sub. He’s returned a goal or assist in 7 of those 15 appearances (47%) which is good for the price.

Alot of the King v Dennis debate depends on whether Dennis overperformance of pretty ordinary (but still sufficient for the cheap price) underlying stats concerns you when he has no evidence to show he can sustain it and whether 1 goal in 473 minutes for Cologne worries you. However if you believe in your eyes and recent form which includes good underlying stats then he is definitely your choice over King.
