Introduction
This article consists of a schedule ranking forwardss based on their underlying stats over the season of the season. xG and xA per game are converted to FPL attacking points. Stats are from the excellent free site FBREF Players injured or suspended or with significant gametime risk are excluded from the schedule.
There’s also their FPL points per match as well as their value for money rating. The higher the better. Above 10 is the gold standard
The rankings are purely mathematical and there is no adjustment for fixtures coming up or the amount of additional games or blanks. The attacking players fixture ease schedule is below
Prices are as of the 17th January and stats are all prior to the Brighton v Chelsea game
The Patreon version of the article has Joe’s Transfer Planner and Points Prediction Models highest scoring forwards over the next 5 gameweeks
The ranking schedule
As I said above the rankings are based on their xG and xA per game converted to FPL attacking points
There is no adjustment to a players rank for fixtures upcoming or blanks or potential doubles. See transfer suggestions below for the best players to transfer in from the schedule
Transfer suggestions for GW23
The fundamentals of looking for players that have a good entry point fixture as well as a good overall fixture ranking in the upcoming 6 gameweeks plus represent overall value for money and consistency of performances are what I’m looking for. The suggestions are not in any particular order
I discuss separately the potential DGW23/DGW24 teams
However forwards are pretty thin on the ground at the moment so there’s only 2 transfers I’d be suggesting if there’s no DGWS
Calvert-Lewin
The attacking performance of Everton and the 1 shot performance of Calvert-Lewin vs Norwich was a rude awakening from the previous 4 games which had seen 3 goals and some pretty stellar underlying stats.
However he has a reasonable entry point v Villa, good fixtures going forward and the potentail for 3 DGWs going forward. Also interim boss Duncan Ferguson will be trying to set the team up to play to his strengths I would imagine.
The questions are how significant was the Norwich performance as well as how much 5 games can be a pointer towards the remainder of the season
Josh King
There’s no better entry point for a transfer in than vs Norwich and with 3 potential double gameweeks to come as well as a decent price he’s a fairly attractive proposition. He should also have pen duties
The problem is only 1 return (an assist) in his last 6 games including the odd shunting out to left. Although his underlying stats have been good overall the 5 games before that he served up a load of drivel. So it’s not all rosy that’s for sure.
He’s still my preference to Dennis although he has better recent returns with 5 goals and 3 assists in his last 8 games although they are built on a pretty rocky foundation of ordinary underlying stats even in recent fixtures. King has far better underlying stats even over that recent period. You may disagree as to what is the important factor.
Potential DGW23 teams
The games that could be added to GW23 or even GW24 depending on how they view the proximity of dates are
Leeds v Villa, Burnley v Watford, Villa v Burnley.
The double fixtures would look something like this
Leeds – Newcastle H and Villa H
Burnley – Arsenal A and Villa A
OR
Burnley – Arsenal A and Watford H
Watford – Norwich H and Burnley A
Villa – Everton A and Burnley H
OR
Villa – Everton A and Leeds A
As far as Leeds are concerned if Bamford was fit he would be an ideal pick but that is far from certain as I write this. Rodrigo also isn’t assured of starting as he was a sub v West Ham
With Wood gone who knows who will start for Burnley. Cornet will take 1 striker position when he returns and I imagine 1 of Vydra or Rodriguez although in the short term Vydra has Covid.
As for Villa both doubles are good fixtures. I’m not a huge fan of Watkins and less of Ings but you can’t deny the fixtures. If I had to pick one it would be Watkins although Ings has penalty duties which you may think is a deciding factor
I talked about King and Dennis above
