Here’s an introductory interview so you can get to know him

Hi Peter, thanks for taking the time to do an interview and it’s great to have you as one of the FFGeek Contributors this season. Firstly tell us a bit about yourself away from FPL?

Firstly I would like to say I’m very grateful to be asked to be a contributer for Fantasy Football Geek, a website I have found really useful over the last few years.

I’m 34 and live in Northumberland, about 15 miles north of Newcastle. I’m a fan of many sports, the main one being football, and I’ve been a supporter of Newcastle United for as long as I can remember.

How long have you been playing FPL, how did you get into it and what is your motivation?

I can’t really remember how I got into playing FPL but I started out in the 07/08 season. I’ve always been a big football fan and just played the game for a bit of fun over the years, it wasn’t until the summer leading up to the 18/19 season where I started to take FPL more seriously.

My main motivation for this was to try to earn the bragging rights amongst my friends by winning our main mini league. Unfortunately I finished 2nd in this mini league that season, however I did manage to get my first top 10k finish. This is something I’d never have imagined doing having finished over 1 millionth the season prior.

Since then I’ve won that mini league 3 years running and this still remains my main motivation.

What is your playing strategy?

Overall, I’m not a big risk taker when playing FPL. I like to try and keep the way in which I play the game simple and avoid taking hits, unless I think it’s going to benefit my team in the long run. I usually avoid punts, pick players who are nailed for their team and who I’d be happy to own for a run of games, say 4-6 weeks.

Are there any players you think will definitely be in your GW1 team for 22/23 through all the tinkering?

Most likely candidates are Trent Alexander-Arnold and Salah

Your favourite FPL player and your nightmare FPL player

My current favourite FPL player is Son. He’s pretty much been a fixture in my team over the past 2 seasons and scored a lot of points for me.

Nightmare player has to be Jamie Vardy. I never seem to own him at the right time. I always miss his hauls and he normally gets booked or injured when I own him.

Your first draft GW1 team

This is the first GW1 draft team which I made once the game launched, no doubt it will change numerous times before the deadline.

Thanks very much Pete!
