Introduction
This article consists of a schedule ranking midfielders based on their underlying stats over the season of the season. xG and xA per game are converted to FPL attacking points. Stats are from the excellent free site FBREF Players injured or suspended or with significant gametime risk are excluded from the schedule.
There’s also their FPL points per match as well as their value for money rating. The higher the better. Above 10 is the gold standard
I’ve also highlighted whether they have a DGW22 fixture and how many postponed games they have left after GW22 to make into potential DGWs. You can see these on the schedules below
The rankings are purely mathematical and there is no adjustment for fixtures coming up. The attacking players fixture ease schedule is below
Prices are as of the 4th January
The ranking schedule
As I said above the rankings are based on their xG and xA per game converted to FPL attacking points
There is no adjustment to a players rank for fixtures upcoming
Transfer suggestions for GW22
So generally I think if you are making a transfer it makes sense to roll the dice on DGW players. The fundamentals of looking for players that have a good entry point fixture as well as a good overall fixture ranking in the upcoming 6 gameweeks plus represent overall value for money and consistency of performances doesn’t change. The suggestions are not in any particular order
An overall word about the DGW22 teams
Neither Burnley or Watford have any mids that make the grade for me so there are none in the schedule. As for Brighton they have a tricky fixture against Chelsea which is unhelpful although I think you could punt on Trossard. Chelsea have Man City as one fixture and then blanks in GW24 and GW25 so although I’m a big Mount fan there is a decent amount of things against him
Leicesters double 22 fixtures could be worse but afterwards they definitely aren’t ideal and the squad is decimated with injuries and AFCON. Spurs 2 fixtures are also a bit mixed and afterwards mixed as well. You could roll the dice on Moura who is either fantastic but much more likely to be produce something close to zero attacking output. Brentford against Liverpool and Man Utd is a tough bet. Man Utd do have 2 good fixtures but you either have Fernandes who is hideously expensive or roll the dice of form fluctuation and selection with Rashford, Sancho and Greenwood.
So I’m going to highlight 2 players as options although neither are perfect by any stretch and both are from Leicester.
Maddison
There’s no doubting the current form. In 6 games it’s 4 goals and 5 assists and backed up by good underlying stats too. However the 8 starts and 4 sub appearances before that streak saw 1 goal and no assists. The team is decimated by injuries although there seems a decent chance that Daka will be fit for GW22 at least. The double of Burnley and Spurs could be better but it could be worse. The fixtures after that though aren’t pretty. Needs to be monitored injury wise.
Tielemans
Another player who’s been in reasonable good form with 4 goals and 2 assists in his last 9 starts although there is a big injury gap between GW12 and GW15. That form was backed up by pretty consistent underlying stats. Again the loss of Vardy and Iheanacho isn’t ideal and it remains to be seen whether the loss of Ndidi restricts his freedom to go forward. He should be the penalty taker in Vardy’s absence.
