Introduction
This article consists of a schedule ranking midfielders based on their underlying stats over the season of the season. xG and xA per game are converted to FPL attacking points. Stats are from the excellent free site FBREF Players injured or suspended or with significant gametime risk are excluded from the schedule.
There’s also their FPL points per match as well as their value for money rating. The higher the better. Above 10 is the gold standard
The rankings are purely mathematical and there is no adjustment for fixtures coming up or the amount of additional games or blanks. The attacking players fixture ease schedule is below
Prices and stats are as of the 28th January
The Patreon version of the article has Joe’s Transfer Planner and Points Prediction Models highest scoring forwards over the next 5 gameweeks
The ranking schedule
As I said above the rankings are based on their xG and xA per game converted to FPL attacking points
There is no adjustment to a players rank for fixtures upcoming or blanks or potential doubles. See transfer suggestions below for the best players to transfer in from the schedule
Transfer suggestions for GW24
The fundamentals of looking for players that have a good entry point fixture as well as a good overall fixture ranking in the upcoming 6 gameweeks plus represent overall value for money and consistency of performances are what I’m looking for. The suggestions are not in any particular order
Salah
The only question for me is whether he is ready to start GW24 after AFCON or not. That we will have to wait for. A great entry point V Leicester despite the reverse fixture shock loss
Jota
Has become a debate about whether he should be in your FPL team or whether it should be Robertson to make up the Salah and Alexander-Arnold trio.
Great underlying stats over the season and in recent form. 18 starts and 3 as sub for 10 goals and 3 assists returning a goal or assist in 11 of those games which is a respectable 52%
The issue is whether you believe the return of Salah and Mane plus Firmino being fit and the signing of Luis Diaz will reduce his gametime significantly.
Foden
2 great fixtures next although UCL rotation may diminish his attraction. 12 starts and 3 sub appearances but only returning in 6 of those 15 appearances which is a fairly feast or famine 40%. Can play as a false 9 or as a FW which is helpful for gametme
Raphinha
19 starts for 8 goals and 2 assists returning a goal or assist in 10 of those games again for a respectable 53%. Great underlying stats which have been very good in recent matches. Entry point could be better.
Bowen
6 goals and 12 assists in 22 starts plus 1 sub appearance returning a goal or assist in 12 pf those games again for a respectable 53%. His recent underlying stats have been very good although a little feast or famine and far better against the lower ranked sides which bodes well for the next 3 excellent fixtures.
Fernandes
Has generally been abysmal this season. 20 starts plus 1 assist for 7 goals and 5 assists returning a goal or assist in 8 of those games for a poor 38% return rate.
The attraction is 2 games in DGW25 where he will be one of the captain favourites and good fixtures thereafter.
Coutinho
I haven’t included the £7.0m Aston Villa Mid in the schedule due to the fact that he’s only started 1 game plus 1 as sub so to that extent he represents somewhat of the unknown. The attraction is the next 3 fixtures and his stellar former Liverpool career.
Elanga
Mason Greenwood’s suspension from the club opens up more of a chance for the £4.8m Elanga to start as 1 of the 4 attacking players in the team. Fernandes and Ronaldo you assume are fairly nailed and then it comes down to 2 from Rashford, Elanga, Sancho, Cavani, the injured Pogba and the out of favour Lingard who looks like he could go on loan anyway. Given Elanga’s started the last 3 and scored in 1 game you have to give him a decent chance. The underlying stats, albeit on 353 mins are good.
A cheap route into good fixtures and a double gameweek 25.
