The best matches in the premier league this season

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s another FPL review article where I review 3 of the best matches in the premier league this season.

The best matches in the premier league this season

Manchester City 2 Manchester United 3

There can be very few backdrops to a match than the historic underdogs of Manchester City having the opportunity to win the premier league title in front of their own fans against their bitter rivals.  That was the scene for this match where Man Utd were generally paying £5.00 to win at the bookies although for football betting in Ireland you can use the betting top 10 site give you variety of odds, trends, tips and offers.

Manchester City completely dominated the first half with a deja vu moment from a few years ago when Kompany scored from a corner.  That was followed by a smart finish from Gundogan to make it 2-0.  That in no way represented City’s dominance and the game could have been all over had Sterling not missed two great chances and Gundogan headed straight at De Gea.

Those misses gave Man Utd the belief that all was not lost at half time and Pogba scored in the 53rd minute and then again in the next attack.  Chris Smalling reversed his mistake on Kompany who this time was made to watch Smalling side foot a volley home for the winner.

It ended as a famous and improbable win for Manchester United.  As Guardiola said afterwards

“How many chances did we create? Much, much, more. But you have to put the ball in the net.”

From an FPL perspective there were few winners though.  Sanchez and Pogba took the FPL points from this game with 10 and 14 points respectively.  Sterling who was owned by more managers fluffed a potential huge score with just the single assist.

Liverpool 4 Manchester City 3

Despite being a Manchester United supporter it is purely coincidental that I’ve picked Manchester City’s only 2 losses in the premier league this season!

Klopp has always said that you can’t try and just defend against Guardiola sides, liking the strategy to hoping to win the lottery.  Instead Liverpool pressed the Manchester City back 4 relentlessly, were ruthless on the counter attack and Firmino in particular pulled the centre backs all over the place.  All of the Liverpool front 3 of Mane, Firmino and Salah scored to put Liverpool 4-1 up and although City bought it back to 4-3, mainly due to a rare poor game from LB Robertson, Liverpool held on for Manchester City’s first league loss of the season.

From an FPL perspective owners of any of the Liverpool front 3 saw a goal and assist from each of Firmino and Salah for 8 and 11 points respectively and a goal from Mane for 7 points.  The main 3 attacking assets of Man City in Aguero, De Bruyne and Sterling were disappointments with only an assist between the 3 of them

Bournemouth 1 Spurs 4

While not an obvious game of the season match I’ve chosen it as my favourite match from my FPL team perspective, bar none.

The first half of the game at 1-1 couldn’t have gone any worse with my clean sheet for Aurier left the building and captain Kane left the field with an injury after 33 minutes.  It was a disastrous start, adding to the Saturday previous which couldn’t have gone any worse.  However I did at least have an Aurier assist for the Alli opener.

Son, who was in my FPL team,  had moved up front after Kane left the field and scored on 62 minutes to avoid a complete disaster of a day.  However the last 4 minutes of the match was the 4 minutes I remember most from the season when Son scored again and Aurier headed in from the left back position after swapping flanks when Trippier came on for the yellow carded Rose.  16 precious FPL points were gained in a crazy, totally unexpected,  4 minutes.  What made it sweeter is that neither were particularly highly owned by FPL managers and that fact saw a late season 17k overall rank rise from 42k to 25k at a time when making large ranking movements was difficult.

That’s it hope you found it interesting
