Here was my team for GW27

I got to watch quite a few matches in MD27 and I got to feel a lot of the ups and downs of fantasy that I missed from FPL.

Not having Havertz, after subbing him out for poor fixtures being the most painful. However part of the package I brought in was Alphonso Davies so in the end it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Havertz 33, Mittlestadt 2, Reyna 2 = 37 pts were transferred out vs. Alphonso Davies, 26, Baumgartner 12, Pavard 11 = 49 pts were transferred in, so overall the transfers worked.

However, that is not totally fair, as a star was on Pavard and not Mittlestdat. It would have been on Katterbach I expect, which would still be a win for the transfer. The real issue is that I should have transferred out Gnabry instead of Haverz. However, I figured that he would feature for 20 min or so this week and then will play the entire Dortmund match. With Havertz’s fixtures really tough for the three weeks, I would like to judge this call after the next two weeks before admitting it was the wrong move. I also suspect now that Volland is almost fit, it could push Havertz out of the central striker role, as that is Vollands and he was also a fantasy beast in that spot. Volland is the first choice CF. Although, I doubt that would matter too much.

A few more quick thoughts:

-None of my defenders played well but keeping Pavard in as long as he plays RB is the way to go for me for the indefinite future. He should usually have a different game time and he is a great cut price option on Bayern that still scores big.

-Baumgartner getting a 12 score with no goal or assist is impressive. Players that shoot or assist shooter are the stats to target for the non-premiums. Baumgartner, Karaman, Kainz etc. are a great price for these stats. These are the main types of players that I am scouring for when I am listening to podcasts and on Twitter. I will share what I find in my weekly article here.

-I doubt I will ever Star my cheap defenders so I may be OK having two on the same team with Katterbach and Jakobs. Maybe I will wait until after Leipzig in a week. The were both subbed off early but Koln are 6th in the league for GF and they both seem to get involved on the right wing. At 1M and 1.8M, it allows me to have the big boys elsewhere. The other cheap defenders seem to need lucky goals for any sort of return besides Lenz.

-Even though rotation is frustrating, it might not matter if the reward is good enough as you can swap players out. I may leave Angelino or grab Bensebaini and just take the bad with the good. In this type of scoring format, a mix of home run hitters sprinkled amongst safe floor players will probably yield an outperformance in most weeks.

-Wingbacks that attack or take set pieces are the best assets in the game after premiums. I think this has been established by most playing the game by now.

-It is probably better to have your value players play early in the Match Day to have the ability to freely throw a Star on them. If you have a player starred with an ‘OK score’, you feel a bit more confident taking the star off of him to put it on a Werner or a Lewandowski. Not so much a Karaman or a Baumgartner. However, sometimes the truly cheap value players (Katterbach and Jakobs) play at the end of the week. That seems to be the case for the next three Match Days.

-I think I already need to be aware of a really difficult Match Day 30 schedule for starring players. Yes it is two weeks away but as it stands the morning Saturday Kickoff time has TEN OF MY FIFTEEN PLAYERS PLAYING. Every one of my midfielders plays at that time right now. It is not a must fix now but I will be mindful of who plays then when I bring in players this week and next as part of my analysis to see if it can reduce the issue for that week. The challenge really is that Bayern and RB Leipzig both play during this time. They both play a decent fixture the week before too so it doesn’t make sense to sell them before the week. I think the reality is that it just makes more sense to not double up on any of the players at each position until after this week.

Quick Transfer thoughts for my moves:

  • Be weary of compacted game week 30 schedule (for starring players) while bringing in anyone.
  • Haaland and Lewandowski play at the same time. I will probably swap Haaland out for the week to a Mbach forward against Bremen. I will likely swap him right back to Haaland the following week.
  • Davies and Gnabry are not needed together now. If they both start (we get to see the lineup for this match) I will likely swap Davies out of the two as Gnabry is seems the type of star that can explode against anyone. He scored a 16 against them earlier this season. Davies will likely have his hands too full against the powerful wingback talent in Dortmund to get too involved in the opposing box.
  • M’bach have the best schedule for planning stars over the next three weeks. This week they play Bremen and only other matches at that time are Leverkusen/Wolfsburg (brutal matchup for both) and Frankfurt/Frieburg. After that they have their own time slot for the following two Match Day weeks.

Probable Transfers

Haaland 🔄 Thuram
Davies 🔄 Hofmann or Kampl
Lenz 🔄 Jakobs

.. or I may do Gnabry instead of Davies to bring Havertz back instead. I am not 100% sold on Hoffman or doubling RB (I want more Star options). That would give me the pick between Thuram or Plea too.

Good luck!
