Matchday 29 Review – 163 points; Gameweek Rank 4,602

Here’s the points:

fantasy Bundesliga Matchday 30

After a poor MD28, a good way to bounce back with my 3rd rank out of 4 in the top 5000 OBFM managers. My points were spread across the gamedays with 2 starred scores in the 30s, and a further 4 double figure returns. Benjamin Pavard proved to be a good Transfer In with a starred 38 points, backed up by 30 from my starred forward the ever-consistent Lewandowski. Nkunku then chipped in a healthy starred 26 on Monday night and there were 18 pointers from Hazard and Hakimi from Dortmund. The disappointments continue to be my budget players, who are struggling for gametime and it was a quiet week for Kainz and Baumgartner at the lower end of the mid-price range in midfield. Hopefully they’ll produce something this week.

I’m continuing to enjoy the game and finding the Bundesliga entertaining – there’s certainly plenty of goals! Also some food for thought as the FPL season approaches. Are we going to see the trend of away wins like we’re seeing in the Bundesliga? How much will EPL teams use the available 5 substitutions and will we see a glut of 1 pointers as players get subbed before 60 minutes? How much rotation will there be week to week? All pertinent questions I think, but for now let’s stick to the near-future and look at OBFM MD30.

A trickier gameweek again with 2 of the top 3 playing at the same time on Saturday afternoon. 4th placed Leverkusen are also involved in one of these games against Bayern and there’s no really favourable fixtures on Sunday. I also have no attacking cover for the Friday night fixture so this leaves some interesting conundrums.

First up I need to decide what to do with Kai Havertz. He’s in great form, but has a horrible fixture on Saturday afternoon against Champions-in-waiting Bayern. For me, it’s a sell as I won’t be starring him for this fixture and with Leipzig playing at the same time against bottom side Paderborn, I can simply star Nkunku in this timeslot. That frees up some cash, so to cover a possible Nkunku blank, I’m going to transfer in a Dortmund mid for the Saturday 530pm slot. I’d have liked Sancho, but I can’t work him into my budget so I’ve gone for Brandt who’s the next highest up the price list and impressed me a few weeks back against Schalke in MD26.

Then there’s what to do up-front. Hazard was good last week, but I’d like to cover Borussia Moenchengladbach (BMG) in the Friday game so the obvious move here seems to be to sell Hazard and bring in a BMG striker to cover this fixture. Again I’m working tomorrow when the team news will land so I’ll have to take my chances with a transfer tonight on this one rather than waiting for team news. I’ve gone for Thuram for this one.

Finally, I need to get some back-up options for Sunday. I’m keen to move on Gulde from Frieburg – it looks like he’s lost his place in the team and they face BMG on Friday and with going for Thuram over Plea, I’ve got enough money to bring one of my favourite attacking full-backs back in – Trimmel from Union Berlin. So here’s how my squad looks going into the weekend. I’ll start with my Stars on Pavard, Nkunku and Thuram and move them on accordingly as the Matchday progresses.

Best of luck for this week everyone and enjoy the games!
