I’ve been asked to take a look at a new way of playing fantasy premier league at www.fantasyfootballexchange.co.uk.  It’s described as a fantasy football platform that lets you back yourself every weekend with money . Although you can play for free.  Fantasy football fans can join this betting exchange platform and participate in weekly, monthly and season long leagues.  We review the format and give you the details for a fantasy football geek GW16 league

Fantasy football exchange – a different way of playing

The game has the advantage of being similar to Fantasy Premier League so it wont suck alot of your time away from FPL. The squad structure and the points system are very similar.  There are price changes, Wildcards, clean sheets, bonus points, assists etc.  I’ve copied the full rules below.  However there are 2 significant differences.  1 is beyond our control and deals with how bonus points are assessed.  They basically take an average of the 1-10 ratings from 3 newspapers.  The most significant difference deals with adding in a player category of defensive midfielders which will involve some extra thought.  However if you play Sky you will at least have some idea of this type of player.  That’s probably the only area that you will see any material difference from your current FPL thinking although obviously a weekly or monthly league is a far shorter view than you’ll be doing in fantasy premier league.

The platform allows you to see the points scoring live and it is smartphone friendly.

Remember to read the terms and conditions and that you can only bet for money if you are 18 or over although as I said you can pay for free.

Why not give a try of our free league for GW16 only as a way of trying it out.  First you need to create an account and then set up your squad for the week. Then it’s a case of joining our free league.   Click on the leagues tab on the top right  and from the menu generated you will see “join and create more leagues”   You will see an option in the drop down of “got an invitation for a private league”  You will then be able to enter our league code below if you copy and paste it and join.  Our leagues called fantasy football geek GW16.

The code is 3095 3721 8907 0766.

To give you a bit of an idea.  Here’s our team for GW16.

Introduction

FFE provides weekly, monthly (four gameweeks long), and season-long fantasy football leagues which are either free to enter or require a buy-in. Both paid and free-to-enter leagues may be limited to a maximum number of teams or have unlimited entry.

When you decide to enter a league you will be asked to create a team. If you already have a team that is eligible to enter this league, you will also be given the option to use the existing team line-up you have selected.

You will be able to build a team which must consist of:

  • 2 Goalkeepers
  • 5 Defenders
  • 5 Midfielders
  • 3 Forwards

You will earn points based on your chosen players’ performance in Barclays Premier League matches which take place while your chosen paid or free-to-enter league is running.

The season is split into 38 gameweeks. For each of these gameweeks there is a deadline by which you must have:

i) Confirmed any transfers

ii) Finalised your starting lineup, and the order of players on your bench

iii) Chosen your captain and vice-captain

Any changes made after the gameweek deadline will not be applied until the following gameweek.

The total points score for your team is used to determine your team’s league position, and for leagues with a buy-in, prizes will be allocated according to the finishing positions for each prize rule.

Budget

The total value of your initial squad must not exceed £100 million.

Players per team

You can select up to 3 players from a single Barclays Premier League team.

Choosing Your Starting 11

From your 15 player squad, select 11 players by the gameweek deadline to represent your team for the next gameweek. Also select the order of the players on your bench, which will determine the order in which they will be used for automatic substitutions.

All your points for the gameweek will be scored by these 11 players, however if one or more doesn’t play they may be automatically substituted.

Your team can play in any formation provided that 1 goalkeeper, at least 3 defenders and at least 1 forward are selected at all times.

Automatic Substitutions

Automatic substitutions will be performed according to the substitutes’ order on the bench within the formation restrictions. For example, if you are playing the minimum of 3 defenders in the first 11 but one of them doesn’t play, he will not be replaced by a midfielder even if a midfielder is first in line, but instead by the first available defender on the bench.

If any of your players plays zero minutes in the Gameweek that player will be substituted by the highest priority substitute who played in the Gameweek and who doesn’t break the formation restrictions.

For example, If your starting team has 3 defenders, a defender can only be replaced by another defender.

Captain and Vice-captain selection

You must select a captain and a vice captain for each game week. Captains will be awarded double points. In the event that your team’s captain doesn’t play, the Vice-Captain will be promoted to captain and be awarded double points. If neither captain nor vice-captain play, no extra points will be awarded.

Transfers

Having selected your squad you can buy and sell players in the transfer market. Unlimited transfers can be made at no cost until the first gameweek of the league you have entered begins.

After the start of the game, a pre-set number of transfers will be awarded to your team. These can be used as required, but there will be restrictions on the degree of transfer activity allowed within a single game week.

Transfer activity will be restricted as follows:

Season-long and monthly leagues: The total number of transfers available to each team is equal to the number of gameweeks that the league runs for. The maximum number of transfers in a single gameweek is 3 except when a wildcard is played.

Weekly leagues: No transfers will be available once the game is in progress.

The wildcard

The Wildcard allows unlimited free transfers throughout a gameweek.

Playing your wildcard will add back any transfers already used in the same gameweek.

Player values

Player values will be updated once per gameweek, according to their popularity within the game and will change by a maximum of +/- 0.3m . Managers receive the full value of a player when selling. Player prices do not change until the season starts.

The price changes will occur immediately after the game update following the closure of a transfer window on a gameweek deadline.

Gameweek deadlines

The gameweek deadline is the date and time at which each transfer window closes. All transfers must be made before this time in order to apply to the following gameweek.

Scoring

Each gameweek, players in your team earn points based on their performance in Barclays Premier League matches which fall within that gameweek:

Notes on Points Scoring:

Clean sheets

A clean sheet is awarded for not conceding a goal while on the pitch and playing for at least 60 minutes. If a player is not on the pitch (has been substituted or is yet to be brought on as a substitute himself) when a goal is conceded this will not affect any clean sheet bonus.

Red cards

If a player receives a red card he will continue to be penalised for goals conceded by his team. Red card deductions include any points deducted for yellow cards.

Assists

Assists are decided and awarded by Opta.

Bonus points

Bonus points are awarded to the highest rated players featuring in Premier League matches, based on the following criteria:

– Player ratings are calculated by taking the average player rating (out of 10) awarded by a combination of three national newspapers.

For example, if Ander Herrera is awarded a 9 by paper #1, 8 by paper #2 and 9 by paper #3, his FFE player rating is 8.67.

If, in the same match, Luke Shaw is awarded an 8, 8 and 7, his FFE player rating is 7.67.

– In each Premier League game, the player (or players, in the event of a tie) with the highest average rating is awarded three bonus points.

– If only one player has been awarded 3 bonus points, 2 bonus points will be awarded to all players with the second highest average rating.

– If only 2 players have been awarded bonus points at this stage, 1 bonus point is awarded to all players with the third highest average rating.

Payouts

Prize pot

The total cost of joining a paid league consists of the buy-in and the rake. The rake is the commission taken by FFE and is 10% of the buy-in.

The total prize pot available for a league is the sum of all the buy-ins paid to join the league.

Prize structure

Each league has one or more prize rules. A prize rule is used to calculate how much of the prize pot is paid out to which teams, based on the points scored by that team.

The prize pot for a league can be allocated in the following ways. For private leagues the creator can choose which rule to use when setting up the league:

– Winner takes all – The team finishing in 1st place takes 100% of the pot.

– Share the prizes – The prize pot is distributed amongst the highest placed teams. The percentage of teams receiving a prize is dependent on the number of teams entered in the league. For all larger leagues of 52 teams or more the top 12% of teams in the league will be awarded a prize.
