Introduction

This article consists of a schedule ranking midfielders based on their underlying stats over the first 6 games of the season. xG90 and xA90 are converted to FPL attacking points adjusted by their average minutes played.

There’s also their FPL points per match as well as their value for money rating. The higher the better. Above 10 is the gold standard

The rankings are purely mathematical and there is no adjustment for fixtures coming up. The attacking players fixture ease schedule is below

Their is a new stat based on the performances in each individual gameweek where they are rated good or bad in relation to their cost. The column “x Consist %” states the % of times in relation to their starts they were rated good in the first 6 gameweeks. I haven’t calculated some players and they are “navail”. Prices are as of 27 October.

The ranking schedule

As I said above the rankings are based on their xG90 and xA90 converted to FPL attacking points adjusted by their average minutes played. There is no adjustment for fixtures upcoming

As it’s only 9 games data the rankings will be pretty volatile.

Transfer suggestions for GW10

Ideally I’m looking for players that have a good entry point fixture as well as a good overall fixture ranking in the upcoming 6 gameweeks plus represent overall value for money and consistency of performances. The suggestions are not in any particular order

Salah

Presumably if you’re reading this you have him. I won’t waste your time by going through the motions of justifying the pick.

Jota

7 starts and 1 sub appearance for 4 goals and 1 assist returning a goal or assist in 4 of those 7 starts is a good record. The fact that he started v Man City and v Man Utd suggests that if he’s not exactly first choice he will get a decent amount of gametime. So far this season he’s averaged 75 minutes although there was an element of Firmino not being fit in that. I think his form is worth the gamble but he’s not for the gametime risk shy.

Foden

4 starts plus 1 as sub for 3 goals and 2 assists returning in 3 of the 4 starts. 2 of those starts have seen him play as a false 9 as well. Outside of the false 9 position he has gametime risk in that he will compete with Grealish for his natural position on the left side of a front 3.

Again not for the gametime risk squeamish but has a high ceiling with great underlying stats

Mount

5 starts plus 2 as sub for 3 goals and 3 assists most of which came in his hat trick vs Norwich which included a penalty when there was no Lukaku or Jorginho on the pitch. Has returned a goal or assist in 3 of the 5 starts even if his underlying stat consistency is only 40%

Chelsea will play 2 attacking mids behind a CF in their 3-4-2-1 formation and they have the choice of Havertz, Mount, Hudson Odoi, and Ziyech for those positions and Pulisic when eventually fit. What’s more Tuchel recently has played Werner and Lukaku in a 3-5-2 which has the potential to cut out all the AMs. All this means that he comes with gametime risk as does any Chelsea attacking asset.

However the next fixtures are good so you again take your pick and hope for the best

Mebumo

He is a fitness doubt this week so needs monitoring in that regard

9 starts for 2 goals doesn’t exactly scream transfer me in but Brentford have a good run of fixtures and he is playing as Toney’s strike partner in a 3-5-2. Furthermore he has been unlucky as his underlying stats are so much better than the returns so you think there’s some catching up to happen and he’s hit the woodwork something like 6 times.

Son

This is a fixture based transfer and one relying on history and his ability to over perform his underlying stats rather than current individual or team form.

To be fair Son’s underlying stats aren’t that bad (he’s also got 4 goals and 2 assists in his 8 starts), the fixtures are good and he is effectively Harry Kanes strike partner but a pathetic team shots of 7 v West Ham shows that all is not well overall with Spurs.

Man Utd and Everton wouldn’t normally be good entry points but that certainly changed after this weekend. In any case GW12 sees Leeds, Burnley and Norwich in the 4 after that.

Saka

Smith Rowe maybe the transfer in favourite at the moment after his haul v Villa but for me Saka still remains the better pick.

He’s only got the 1 goal and 2 assists in his 8 starts plus 1 as sub but the underlying stats suggests there’s more to come and the fixtures are good with an entry point against a leaky Leicester defence

Those who didn’t make it

Townsend, Tielemans and Smith Rowe are 3 players who’s underlying stats mean they didn’t make the cut.

Traore, Bailey, Barnes, Mahrez and Sterling are players who didn’t make it due to gametime concerns which were more serious in my view than those of the players in the schedule
