Introduction
This article consists of a schedule ranking midfielders based on their underlying stats over the first 11 games of the season. xG90 and xA90 are converted to FPL attacking points adjusted by their average minutes played. Stats are from the excellent free site understat
There’s also their FPL points per match as well as their value for money rating. The higher the better. Above 10 is the gold standard
The rankings are purely mathematical and there is no adjustment for fixtures coming up. The attacking players fixture ease schedule is below
Their is a new stat based on the performances in each individual gameweek where they are rated good or bad in relation to their cost. The column “x Consist %” states the % of times in relation to their starts they were rated good in the first 6 gameweeks. I haven’t calculated some players and they are “navail”. Prices are as of 14 November
The ranking schedule
As I said above the rankings are based on their xG90 and xA90 converted to FPL attacking points adjusted by their average minutes played.
There is no adjustment for fixtures upcoming
Transfer suggestions for GW12
Ideally I’m looking for players that have a good entry point fixture as well as a good overall fixture ranking in the upcoming 6 gameweeks plus represent overall value for money and consistency of performances. The suggestions are not in any particular order
Salah
I’m really hoping I don’t need to convince you here. His PPM of 10.6 should say it all
Jota
With Firmino suffering a “serious hamstring injury” the door is open for Jota to start regularly in the front 3 and most likely as the CF. The only alternative option being Origi who started only 2 games in the PL last season and none so far this season.
Jota so far this season has started 8 games plus 2 as sub for 4 goals and an assist returning a goal or assist in 4 of those 8 starts which is a pretty good consistency return rate.
This is backed up by superb underlying stats from a quality, volume and consistency in a Liverpool side that’s top for goals scored, xG and shots per game.
The fixtures are also good even if the entry point against an improving Arsenal defence could be better
Gallagher
Gallagher had a couple of games where his underlying stats had dropped off which had made me think that maybe he was going to permanently see a drop in output. However the last 2 games have seen him resurrect that outstanding early game form and he really looks like an incredible bargain.
He’s scored 4 goals and got 4 assists in 10 starts and returned a goal or assist in a healthy 5 of those games. Like Jota he’s also producing great quality, consistency and volume underlying stats to back those numbers up.
Good entry point vs Burnley and fixtures going forward
Foden
The Man City attacking mid has scored 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 starts and 1 sub appearance returning a goal or assist in 3 of those games. What’s more he’s started those 6 consecutively and in 5 of those has played 90 minutes. That’s some achievement in a Pep side. He also has the ability play LW and CF in a front 3 which means he isn’t necessarily in a head to head competition with Grealish for the LW spot.
However it’s not all rosy. His underlying stats have been skewed by his 2 goal and 1 assist performance v Brighton and he hasn’t consistently produced the underlying stats output you’d be looking for.
However representation of a City attacker is definitely desirable given their attacking potential even if their fixtures are probably better around GW15
Mbeumo
The Brentford FPL mid who’s playing as Toney’s strike partner hasn’t produced the goals and assists his underlying stats warrant. It’s hard to know without any PL history how correctable this is but he’s certainly hit the post an number of times which suggests bad luck rather than inherent bad finishing.
Certainly the Newcastle match next is an excellent entry point and the fixtures are overall good going forward
Son
The Spurs mid has scored 4 goals and 2 assists in 10 starts returning a goal or assist in 5 of those 10 starts which is a good consistency return rate. He also has excellent fixtures ahead with Leeds, Burnley and Norwich in the next 4. You can also add in Brentford and Brighton depending on how real you believe there overall positive defensive performances have been. He also pretty much plays as Harry Kane’s strike partner and now Spurs have one of the most successful managers at the helm where the hope is he can transform performances and have a more attacking style.
What Son doesn’t have is great underlying stats for the price and he also doesn’t have penalty duties which is preferable for me for those players over £10m. However to a large degree Son gets a pass on underlying stats due to his consistent ability to overperform them. After all his PPM is 5.8 which only Gallagher, Torres and Salah have better as mids.
To get Son in you have to believe the fixtures override the underlying stats or you believe that they don’t represent the true quality of the player
Those who didn’t make it
Soucek, Harrison, Buendia, Bailey, McNeil and Moura’s stats were insufficient to make the table
Mount seems to have doubts around his teeth and has been starting pretty inconsistently anyway. Tielemans is also an injury doubt
Harvey Barnes and Gundogan I left out due to gametime risk
The fixture Ease schedule
Here you can see each players upcoming fixtures over the next 6 gameweeks
