Introduction

This article consists of a schedule ranking midfielders based on their underlying stats over the first 15 games of the season. xG90 and xA90 are converted to FPL attacking points adjusted by their average minutes played. Stats are from the excellent free site understat

There’s also their FPL points per match as well as their value for money rating. The higher the better. Above 10 is the gold standard

The rankings are purely mathematical and there is no adjustment for fixtures coming up. The attacking players fixture ease schedule is below

Prices are as of 8 December

The ranking schedule

As I said above the rankings are based on their xG90 and xA90 converted to FPL attacking points adjusted by their average minutes played.

There is no adjustment to a players rank for fixtures upcoming

Transfer suggestions for GW16

Ideally I’m looking for players that have a good entry point fixture as well as a good overall fixture ranking in the upcoming 6 gameweeks plus represent overall value for money and consistency of performances. The suggestions are not in any particular order

Salah

13 goals and 10 assists already and played 90 minutes in every PL game so far. Returned a goal or assist in a staggering 14 (93%!!) of those games. Do I really need to say any more

Negative is could leave for AFCON GW19

Jota

It’s still hard to believe that someone who costs £8.0m can play CF for a team that’s scored 44 goals in the first 15 games. 8 goals and 1 assist in 12 starts and 2 sub appearances returning a goal or assist in 7 of those 12 starts (58%). Has Firmino potentially coming back at some stage soon but in this form he will be hard to usurp.

Bernardo Silva

5 goals in his last 5 games and it shouldn’t go unnoticed that he’s played 90 minutes in the last 10 PL matches. Started 14 of the 15 games this season for 7 goals and 2 assists returning a goal or assist in 8 of those 14 games (57%).

It’s his all round game though which is making him seemingly free from competition at the moment. I suspect De Bruyne will take Gundogans place when fully fit and Silva will stay as the other number 8. The competition in the front three where there is Grealish, Foden, Mahrez, Sterling and Jesus competing for 3 spots makes him an almost oasis of security.

The main negative I have for him are really low shooting and key pass volumes which would normally put me off a player. Rested for the UCL match midweek

Bowen

It was interesting to not that when Moyes went to a back 3 at the weekend v Chelsea that it was Bowen and Lanzini who took the 2 AM spots behind Antonio at the expense of Benrahma and Fornals. That seems to be a sign of where he is in the pecking order at the moment

14 starts plus 1 as sub for 3 goals and 7 assists returning in 7 of those starts (50%) is good consistency for the price.

Good fixtures ahead and an excellent entry point v Burnley

Rashford

Firstly this comes with a massive gamble fixture punt warning. Norwich is the perfect entry point fixture and the fixtures after that are also excellent.

However Rashford’s form has been poor to say the least and his underlying stats come no where near him providing value for money

The punt is based on the fact that he was chosen to partner Ronaldo as a striker in Rangnick’s 4-2-2-2 formation although his sofascore heatmap showed him drifting wide left too much for my liking and not really getting into the penalty area. He also failed to have a shot although made 3 key passes. (I did say this was a punt).

2 goals and 1 assist in 5 starts plus 3 as sub only scoring in 1 of those starts

Those who didn’t make it

Gundogan as I’m concerned he will have his place taken by De Bruyne when fit

Foden as he came off in the UCL this week and is an injury doubt

Trossard and Cornet as injury doubts

Gallagher due to him moving to a CDM position

Ziyech, Lanzini, Havertz and Gross are some of the gametime doubts not included although there are more
