With the last GW of the season upon us, I have decided to have quick look back over it. I made a very slow start and despite having played my WC in GW6, I was still languishing at 4.5m after GW9.
I run a doubles team too. We are both risk adverse but very experienced managers, so for fun we try out more risky moves in our doubles team. This season we had started without Haaland and we were flying. So GW10, for my own team, I sold Haaland and Semenyo for Salah and Cunha. I don’t think that I have made such transformative transfers in my FPL career.
I then had an incredible 17 consecutive green arrows. My OR went from 4.5m to into the top 30K. My team value climbed form 102.5 to 106.5m
This allowed me to stick to my template plus philosophy, own the main players in the template plus such good differentials too.
I have stated before that I am not a big fan of so many chips in FPL. This year, I tried to use them fairly quickly whenever there was a good opportunity. This turned out well. There was no DGW37 to worry about in the end. I was very fortunate to score a whopping 56 points with my Assistant Manager chip. I scored an additional 11 points for my Triple Captain chip and 12 points for my Bench Boost.
This season was one when there were so many good midpriced midfielders, such as Mbeumo, Eze, Bowen, Rogers, Murphy, Semenyo, Kluivert etc.
Also up top there was also Wood, Cunha, Wissa and Mateta. This allowed a strong front 8, which inevitably brought with benched points.
The premium options were very streaky this season with Haaland, Palmer, Saka were all scoring for fun and then their points drying up. Salah was amazing and a perma captain for most of the season but latley not hitting the heights he hit earlier during the season.
At the back, it looks like a goal keeper such as Sels or Pickford could outscore all the defenders in the game.
GW 37 Review
I sold Marmoush to buy and captain Watkins. This did not turn out as well as planned as Marmoush scored an extra 3 points.
My other main decision went much better when I benched Saliba for Konsa for an additional 14 points. This gave me a green arrow and I am now in the top 10K for the first time all season.
GW 38
My gut feeling tells me that Bowen will outscore Salah this GW, but I would be delighted to finish in the top 10K and am defending rank. So, I may take the sensible and slightly boring decision to captain Mo Salah due to his high ownership.
I won’t make my transfer decision until as close to the deadline as possible. I have a bad record on GW38 generally. If Isak is leaked as not playing I will sell him for Evanilson. If I believe he plays, I will likely sell Konsa for Kerkez or maybe Rogers for Semenyo or Kluivert.

GW37 Review
Another frustrating gameweek making it 4 red arrows in a row. A no-show from Isak and Van Dijk staying on the bench made positions 1 and 2 from my subs came into play…giving me precisely 3 points with Kiwior sat frustratingly at Sub 3 with 7 unused points taunting me.
Elsewhere it was modest returns only, so it’s another nasty red arrow. The season has fizzled out a bit for my team. I’m happy with my overall rank and will finish with a 5-figure rank, which was the pre-season aim. I’ve also pretty much won my priority mini-leagues so I’m happy with this.
I’d have liked to kick on from my 30k GW33 OR however so I’m a little frustrated. 1 more week to go then – let’s try and finish well.

Gameweek 37 Review
The penultimate gameweek of the season saw my side fall to its third successive red arrow leaving me along way from where I’d like to be.
5 of my starting 11 managed a return of some kind, however, this was still not enough to strengthen my position heading into the final week of the season.
I decided to gamble on transferring Isak out to Watkins and handing him the armband for the early kick off. Watkins only managed to pick up an assist and I was rather lucky to later see that Isak wasn’t even in the Newcastle squad for their trip to Arsenal.
As I transferred the Newcastle striker out, I decided to double down and play both my Arsenal defenders ahead of the Nottingham Forest pair of Sels and Milenkovic. The decision was a good one given that Arsenal kept a clean sheet and Forest conceded, however, Milenkovic scored against West Ham and Saliba only lasted 45 minutes before being withdrawn with a potential hamstring concern. A result which pretty much sums up how this season has gone for me.
The Brentford pair of Wissa and Mbeumo combined for 15 points. I’ve been punished by both since removing them on my gameweek 31 wildcard, so its nice to own the pair again and benefit from their points
Manchester City were on course for a clean sheet until a 96th minute Bournemouth goal wiped that out, meaning Gvardiol ended with 2 points. Earlier in the game, Kevin De Bruyne somehow missed a big chance from about 2 yards out, hitting the bar. Fortunately, he was withdrawn before the Bournemouth goal and kept his extra point for a clean sheet.
Crystal Palace’s Sarr was my only other player to return, registering an assist in his sides 4-2 win against Wolves. Muñoz finished the game with 1 point, and Mateta started from the bench, only playing the final 9 minutes of the game and failing to return.
47 points from the gameweek, above the overall average of 39, but again, below Live FPL’s Elite 1k average of 55 points. This resulted in a red arrow from 251k to 273k.
