fantasy premier league – “ones to watch” cheapie midfielders – GW22

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s the 2nd part of my fantasy premier league “ones to watch” for midfielders looking at those under £6.0m.  I’ve tried to rank them on gametime security, form and fixtures but there’s enough information there I hope for you to judge how to slot them into your fantasy premier league team

fantasy premier league – “ones to watch” cheapie midfielders – GW22

1.  Ki Sung-Yueng (£4.8m)

Top of the FPL form table for midfielders under £6m after his 12 point haul away to Fulham.  Before you get too excited prior to that it was 1 return in 14 games.  However on recent form it is 2 goals and an assist in his last 5.  Has also started and played 90 minutes of his last 11.  The attraction is a more advanced role under Poyet rather than being a passing CDM as he has been before.  2 home games  plus Hull home next make him look an attractive target

Arsenal (A)

2.  Mutch (£4.6m)  injury doubt

A goal scoring midfielder who likes to get into the box.  Didn’t play last week because of an injury and still doubtful.  Returned in 2 of his last 5 including 2 goals and an assist.  Not the time to buy this week though with an injury doubt and away to City

Norwich (H)
Swansea (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Hull City (H)

3.  Puncheon (£4.9m)

Has now played 9 consecutive games.  Had the advantage of pens but if you saw his horror miss against Spurs you maybe discounting that in the future.  Still plays in a very advanced position, gets into the box and shoots alot.  1 goal in his last 5 though isn’t a great recommendation.  Home to Stoke and Hull next though is a good time to gamble and not to sell

Arsenal (A)
West Brom (H)
Everton (A)
Man Utd (H)

4.  Januazaj (£5.2m)

Looking more and more integral to the side.  Now started 6 of the last 7.  A goal and an assist in his last 5.  As a young player with a number of flank players in the team will still suffer rotation.  Better suited to a cheap rotation midfielder rather than someone who you want to come off your bench reliably.

Cardiff City (H)
Stoke City (A)
Fulham (H)
Arsenal (A)
Crystal Palace (A)

5.  Sterling (£5.3m)

With Sturridge back in the side either Coutinho or Sterling will probably drop out.  This puts some gametime risk over Sterling as Coutinho despite his pretty ordinary form can play centrally or on the left of a 3.  Sterling doesn’t really have that flexibility.  If you’re willing to take that gamble he has been in good form.  3 returns in his last 5 consisting of a goal and 2 assists.  If you want to take the punt.  Home to Villa is a good time to do so.  Conversley don’t sell now if you own him.

6.  Sidwell (£5.1m)

Another solid bench player having started 19 of the 21 fantasy premier league fixtures to date.  Has an eye for goal and has scored in his last 2 games despite ostensibly being a CDM.  A watchout though as it before these 2 goals it was 4 games without a return and before that 6.  So requires patience and luck to have him off your bench at the right time.  Fixtures are tricky.  Arsenal away certainly aren’t the time to buy.

Southampton (H)
Man Utd (A)
Liverpool (H)
West Brom (A)

7.  Whittingham (£5.4m)

Has been a solid bench player as has played every minute of every game  so far. New manager does add risk to this gametime security.  Also has free kicks and pens although this could be diluted by the new midfield play maker signing.  Hasn’t returned in 4 and only 1 of the last 5.  2 hard fixtures but then it does get better.

Man Utd (A)
Norwich (H)
Swansea (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Hull City (H)

8.  Gnabry (£4.2m)

A real short term punt if you haven’t used your wildcard.  Not for the faint hearted.  Doesn’t have any gametime security although did start against Villa.  With Walcott,Rosicky, Ramsey and Arteta injured may have some short term joy but hard to see it lasting for long.  Scored 1 goal in his 4 starts.  You just have to see it though as an advanced midfielder playing for Arsenal at £4.2m.  One thing to think about though is you can only play 3 Arsenal players so think before you block that off before Fulham at home
