Fantasy premier league – “ones to watch” midfielders over £6.0m– GW21

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s the GW21 “ones to watch” for midfielders on the Barclays fantasy premier league over £6.0m.  I’ve dropped the buy hold or sell format.   This will give the best midfield players at a variety of price ranges using a range of stats to make my case.  I’ll do cheapie midfilders separately.  I wanted to get something out asap for those wanting to sell Walcott this gameweek

Fantasy premier league – “ones to watch” midfielders over £6.0m – GW21

I’ve provided the following stats to support the player choices and to guide you in your decisions.

1.  Goals and assists this year.

2.  Time per point scored this year.  This is how many minutes it takes for a Barclays fantasy premier league point to be scored over the course of this season. The lower the better obviously.

3.  Rotation risk.  High, medium or low.  High is the greatest risk of rotation.

4.  Fixture ease ranking:  The link is at the bottom of the article but essentially I’ve ranked all the teams by the ease of the first 6 fixtures.  The team with the best ranking ie 1 will have the easiest next fixtures of any of the fantasy premier league teams over the next 6 games.

5.  Consistency:  The % of times that the player got a goal or assist  as a % of games played

6.  I’ve also ranked them in their categories as who I think is currently the best choice

7.  Last 5 return consistency rate:   Its now time to take into account recent form so I look at the amount of times a player has returned in the last 5 games played

8.  I’ve also add a couple of  punts from time to time.  These are people not showing great form or consistency  who you may want to roll the dice with

Midfielders

1.  Silva (£9.3m)

  • Goals and assists:  4 goals 6 assists.  Time per point scored:   13.1  mins .  Rotation risk: low.   fixture ease ranking: 4th.  Consistency 8/11   73%  Last 5 return consistency:  4/5

Great form and consistency.  Also has the best overall shooting and creating chances underlying stats of any midfielder.  Will be the creative hub of the team and plays in a very advanced position.  Some very good fixtures to come as well.

2.  Hazard (£10.4m)

  • Goals and assists:  8 goals 8 assists.  Time per point scored:   13.2  mins .  Rotation risk: medium.   fixture ease ranking: 16th.  Consistency 10/20   50%  Last 5 return consistency:  4/5

Another natural swap for Walcott.  In great form and improving consistency.  Has good overall shooting and creating chances stats.  Similar to last year.   Fixtures are a little mixed but he seems to be able to do it against any team at the moment.  A real Mourinho favourite who has only not started 1 game.  Changed the game in the FA Cup when coming on against Derby.

Hull City (A)
Man Utd (H)
West Ham (H)
Man City (A)

3.  Ozil (£9.9m)

  • Goals and assists:  4 goals 8 assists.  Time per point scored:  13.7  mins .  Rotation risk: low.   fixture ease ranking: 5th.  Consistency 8/15    53%        Last 5 return consistency:  3/5

Gone off the boil a little and no returns in the last 2.  Consistency and last 5 dropped off.  That included the 3-1 win at West Ham which should have seen returns.  Has seemed to have got rid of the away day hoodoo with returns in the 2 games prior to the West Ham game.  Just on the outside edge of acceptable underlying stats in shooting but fantastic creating chances stats.  Is a natural swap for Walcott as gives Arsenal coverage even if you couldn’t imagine 2 more different players.  Is world class and will benefit from any improved striker bought by Arsenal.

4.  YaYa Toure (£10.1m|)

  • Goals and assists:  10 goals 3 assists.  Time per point scored:  14.1  mins .  Rotation risk: low   fixture ease ranking: 5th.  Consistency 12/19  63%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  3/5

Has never scored more than 6 goals in a season, plays in a deep position often protecting a vulnerable back 4 away from home and has no underlying shooting or creating chances stats whatsover.  Breaking all fantasy premier league precedents he’s now the 2nd highest scoring midfielder.  Even the top 10 fantasy premier league managers I follow have now started to buy him over Silva.  Like Ramsey (who at least has some shooting stats and started playing further and further up the field) the amazing returns defy logic and precedent.  However they are fact and can’t be ignored.  Much as I’ve tried to.  Has pens until Aguro back and free kicks.

5.  Gerrard (£8.7m)

  • Goals and assists:  3 goals 7 assists.  Time per point scored:  16.9  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 20th.  Consistency 9/16 56%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  4/5

Built on a foundation of set pieces and pens Gerrard has been incredibly consistent this season.  If you strip out the first 5 games when he didn’t return he’s done so over 9/11 games since then.  No real underlying shooting stats but does creat chances and when you have Suarez as a target that can be profitable

6.  Cabaye (£7.1m) (injury doubt)

  • Goals and assists:  5 goals 4 assists.  Time per point scored:  16.55  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 17th.  Consistency 9/17  53%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  3/5

Not a bad return rate for the price so far .     Has set piece domination which is a big advantage for a player not in a top 4 challenging team.  No underlying stats to speak of its all on set pieces. Has been playing as the advanced midfielder in front of Anita and Tiote when Newcastle play 1 upfront which has seen a rise in his profile.  Not quite as effective as one of 2 CMs when Newcastle play 2 up front.  Still consistent enough and returns quite good for the price.  3 tough games in the next 6.

Man City (H)
West Ham (A)
Norwich (A)
Sunderland (H)
Chelsea (A)

7.  Oscar (£8.8m)

  • Goals and assists:  6 goals 4 assists.  Time per point scored:  13.5  mins .  Rotation risk: high   fixture ease ranking: 16th.  Consistency 7/18  39%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  2/5

Not the gametime security that Mourinho favourite Hazard has having started 6 of his 18 games on the bench.  Does have the advantage of mostly playing in an advanced central position though which gives him good goal scoring chances when they come.  No real underlying shooting and creating chances stats its all about the quality of chances. Not that consistent either so patience is definitely required.  Explosive in last 2 games though with a goal and 3 assists.  Like for like with Walcott if no extra funds.

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:

Hull City (A)
Man Utd (H)
West Ham (H)

8.  Lallana (£7.3m)

  • Goals and assists:  4 goals 6 assists.  Time per point scored:  17.22  mins .  Rotation risk: low   fixture ease ranking: 14th.  Consistency 8/20  40%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  3/5

Not one for the impatient.  Seems to go 4 or 5 games without a return and then go 4 or 5 games returning consecutively.  Has the basics of a high central position and totally integral to the teams play.  Returns are good for the price as well.  Pretty much total game time security although the manager likes to rest and rotate for maximum effect of his high pressing game.  You have to be patient and realise that there’s little underlying stats to back you up when things are lean

West Brom (H)
Sunderland (A)

9.  Coutinho (£8.6m)

  • Goals and assists:  2 goals 2 assists.  Time per point scored:  23.6  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 20th.  Consistency 4/15 27%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  2/5

Doing everything right underlying stats wise as getting lots of shots in the box and creating chances,  just not scoring.  Terrible time per minute scored rate and no consistency.  Maybe a slight show of form with 2 returns in his last 3 games.  Its a big leap of faith with the fixtures not being easy either  with 2 of the best away defences and one of the best home defences in the next 6.  However the returns have to mirror what he’s doing eventually

Punts

Dempsey (£7.4m)

Back in fantasy premier league on a 2 month loan from the MLS. Ignore his stop start last season with Spurs and his unsuccessful start with Seattle.  With Fulham in 2011/12 he got 17 goals and 12 assists and in 2010/11 it was 12 goals and 3 assists.  Tempted already?  Well how does this sound to make it even worse.  He’s £7.4m, his ownership is 0.2% and it seems inconceivable he’ll do anything rather than play behind Berba.  Oh and the original homer flat track bully is home to Sunderland in his first game.   It doesn’t get more tempting does it?

Willian (£7.5m)

Has really impressed me in the last few games.  Granted 3 starts in 5 and a goal and an assist isn’t enough to make you jump to the transfer button.  Has looked like he could get some gametime.  Hazard is the favourite son, Oscar next.  The other place is up for grabs. Schurrle has started 2 games since GW9.  Mata has to be on the out after his tantrum at Derby.  Willian is only £7.5m and a reasonable punt in my mind.  Away to Hull isn’t the easiest place to start but Chelsea look ruthless and Willian fits the mould of fast counter attacking player and even was putting in some serious pressing in the last games.

Eriksen (£7.2m)

Making up the midfield numbers by drifting inside to allow Spurs not to get overrun with 4-4-2 its 2 goals and an assist in his 4 games since getting back into the team.  Add in 6 bonus points and heavy set piece involvement and you’ve got a good mixture.  Great value for an advanced attacking midfielder for a top 4 challenging team.  Home to Palace is a good time to take the plunge
