fantasy premier league – “ones to watch” midfielders – GW12 Buy Hold or Sell

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s the GW12 “ones to watch” for Midfielders on the Barclays fantasy premier league  in the buy hold or sell format for GW12.  This will give the best midfield players at a variety of price ranges using a range of stats to make my case

fantasy premier league – “ones to watch” midfielders – GW12 Buy Hold or Sell

I’ve provided the following stats to support the player choices and to guide you in your decisions.  I’ve now moved this to this year:

1.  Goals and assists this year.

2.  Time per point scored this year.  This is how many minutes it takes for a Barclays fantasy premier league point to be scored over the course of this season. The lower the better obviously.

3.  Rotation risk.  High, medium or low.  High is the greatest risk of rotation.

4.  Fixture ease ranking:  The link is at the bottom of the article but essentially I’ve ranked all the teams by the ease of the first 6 fixtures.  The team with the best ranking ie 1 will have the easiest next fixtures of any of the fantasy premier league teams over the next 6 games.

5.  Consistency:  The % of times that the player got a goal or assist  as a % of games played

6.  I’ve also ranked them in their categories as who I think is currently the best choice

7.  Last 5 return consistency rate:   Its now time to take into account recent form so I look at the amount of times a player has returned in the last 5 games played

8.  I’ve also added a couple of fixture punts.  These are people not showing great form or consistency who now have some excellent fixtures which you may want to roll the dice with

Midfielders

1.  Hazard (£9.2m) HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  4 goals 3 assists.  Time per point scored:   14.7  mins .  Rotation risk: medium.   fixture ease ranking: 8th.  Consistency 4/11   36%  Last 5 return consistency:  3/5

An extremely talented player who seems to produce returns at home against the non Europe challenging teams. Very inconsistent though so its a roller coaster ride.  4/6 games are.  Fixtures don’t suit him particularly with 4/6 next games away.  However,  at least 3 are in games where goals should be scored.  however you may want to put buying him aside until the GW16 fixture against Chelsea

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:  West Ham (A)   Southampton (H)   Sunderland (A)   Stoke City (A)   Crystal Palace (H)   Arsenal (A)

2.  Lallana (£6.9m) HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  3 goals 3 assists.  Time per point scored:  14.3  mins .  Rotation risk: low   fixture ease ranking: 17th.  Consistency 5/11   45%          last 5 return consistency rate:  3/5

Had a slow start with 4 games without a return but now its 5 games in his last 7. Underlying stats are pretty ordinary though. Does have some very tough fixtures next.  However has returned against Man Utd and Liverpool so not just a flat track bully. I’m not sure if I missed the Hull game that I would be investing now with the following games.  I would possibly leave it until the Villa home game

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:  Arsenal (A) Chelsea (A) Aston Villa (H) Man City (H) Newcastle (A) Tottenham (H)

3.  Ramsey (£7.3m) HOLD (injury doubt)

  • Goals and assists:  6 goals 4 assists.  Time per point scored:    12.1 mins .  Rotation risk: medium.   fixture ease ranking: 19th.  Consistency 7/11   64%%  Last 5 return consistency:  3/5

In amazing form which just cant be ignored even though underlying stats suggest it can’t continue. However to cover him in your fantasy premier league team isn’t exactly expensive.    Role will be interesting when Walcott returns.  Flamini suspended for 1 game so Ramsey will probably stay centrally in the double pivot for that game.  That helpfully involves Arteta sitting and Ramsey joining what seems like an attacking 5.  After that with Walcott back I can only think Arteta will drop out and Ramsey will keep the central position which is the best scenario.  4 fixtures against good defensive teams will be a good test

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:  Southampton (H)   Cardiff City (A)   Hull City (H)   Everton (H)   Man City (A)   Chelsea (H)

4.  Ozil (£10.6) BUY

  • Goals and assists:  2 goals 5 assists.  Time per point scored:  13.9  mins .  Rotation risk: low.   fixture ease ranking: 19th.  Consistency 4/8    50%        Last 5 return consistency:  2/5

World class player.  2 drawbacks unfortunately, firstly an  assist based game with lack of goals.  Secondly, only 1 of his fantasy premier league returns have come away from the Emirates.  Tough fixtures against good defensive teams will show what he’s made of

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:  Southampton (H)   Cardiff City (A)   Hull City (H)   Everton (H)   Man City (A)   Chelsea (H)

5.  Gerrard (£8.9m)  (injury doubt) HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  2 goals 4 assists.  Time per point scored:  17.5  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 15th.  Consistency 5/11   45%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  4/5

After not returning in his opening 5 games he’s now returned in 5 of his last 6.  I think you can just about sustain a midfielder on set pieces and pens alone and not have any shots in the box production.  That’s helped when you have 2 strikers like Sturridge and Suarez to get you pens and free kicks.  The price for that at £8.9m though is a little eye watering.  That’s the only question. I would only see it as a hold with a possible buy after the Everton game away

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:   Everton (A)   Hull City (A)   Norwich (H)   West Ham (H)  Tottenham (A)    Cardiff City (H)

6.  Nasri (£8.1m )  BUY

  • Goals and assists:  2 goals 4 assists.  Time per point scored:  14.3  mins .  Rotation risk: medium  fixture ease ranking: 18th.  Consistency 6/11   55%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  2/5

Good consistent returns from the man who will have the creative burden while Silva is injured over the next few weeks.    Mixed fixtures but City do have the ability to score or at least create a bundle of chances against any team.

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:  Tottenham (H)   Swansea (H)   West Brom (A)   Southampton (A)   Arsenal (H)   Fulham (A)

7.  Cabaye (£6.3m) HOLD

  • Goals and assists:  2 goals 2 assists.  Time per point scored:  19.4  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 9th.  Consistency 4/9   44%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  2/5

Hasn’t got a great fantasy premier league points per minute return but is reasonably consistent.  Returns come from set piece domination and he is a good price. Newcastle are now scoring and next 3 fixtures should see goals.

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:  Norwich (H)   West Brom (H)   Swansea (A)   Man Utd (A)   Southampton (H)   Crystal Palace (A)

Mirallas (£7.2m) SELL

  • Goals and assists:  1 goals 3 assists.  Time per point scored:  20.4  mins .  Rotation risk: low.   fixture ease ranking: 10th.  Consistency 3/11   27%       Last 5 return consistency rate:  1/5

Not returning in the Palace game was perhaps the final straw for holding.  3 difficult games in the next 4 also mean now is a good trigger to sell

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:  Liverpool (H)   Stoke City (H)   Man Utd (A)   Arsenal (A)   Fulham (H)   Swansea (A)

Fixtures punts

These are people not showing great form or consistency who now have some excellent fixtures which you may want to roll the dice with

Nolan (£6.7m)

  • Goals and assists:  1 goals 3 assists.  Time per point scored:  23.1  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 1st.  Consistency 4/11   36%          Last 5 consistency return rate:  2/5

3 of the best fixtures you can have in the next 6.  3 tough ones.  Great shooting stats and plays as the most forward midfielder in the 4-6 formation.  However despite this its impossible to predict whether he will return.  Can go long spells with good stats without returning tough and had such a spell last year before finishing the season with a hat trick.

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:  Chelsea (H)   Fulham (H)  Crystal Palace (A)  Liverpool (A)   Sunderland (H)   Man Utd (A)

Sessegnon (£6.6m)

Goals and assists:  2 goals 1 assists.  Time per point scored:  21.1  mins .  Rotation risk: low  fixture ease ranking: 2nd.  Consistency since WBA   43%        Last 5 consistency return rate:  2/5

Some good fixtures coming up, particularly the last 3.  Plays behind the striker but shooting stats haven’t been great. Returns have been reasonably consistent since joining WBA

Next 6 fantasy premier league fixtures:  Aston Villa (H)   Newcastle (A)   Man City (H)   Norwich (H)   Cardiff City (A)   Hull City (H)

Budget midfielders

1.  R Morrison (£4.8m) BUY – started the last 7 games which have resulted in 3 goals and an assist.  Great cheapie option

2.  Brady (£5.2m) BUY – Apologises for misunderstanding his position last week.  Coming back from injury but should be fit for the Palace game by all accounts.  3 goals and an assist in 7 games before the injury.

3.  Amalfitano  (£5.2m) BUY –     2 goals and 2 assists in 8 games is a healthy return

4.  Whittingham (£5.1m) HOLD –   Steady secure gametime position.  Set pieces have been  diluted by Bellamy’s involvement but presumably still as pens.   A hold only with a 1 goal and 2 assists in first 11 games.

5.  JWP (£4.2m) HOLD- Played the last 3  so is hopeful of holding his place.  Lovren and Fonte are great targets for his free kicks.  There is still gametime risk though with Osvaldo to come back potentially and Chelsea and arsenal away so a hold only.

6.  Kasami (£4.5m) HOLD – Played the last 8 with 2 goals in 10 games total.    A good bench warming option but I’m not sure I would have him as  a rotation player

7.  Januzaj (£5.1m) HOLD –   Missed out on the Arsenal game and is a definite gametime risk due to rotation and other options.  That’s why I’ve ranked him so low.  Its now 2 goals and 2 assists in 4 games started and 2 as sub.   Potentially good rewards though.

Barkley (£5.6m) SELL–    On the subs bench 2nd consecutive game and has probably peaked and no returns in 5 games.  Now looking relatively expensive compared to other budget options.
