fantasy premier league – analysing the GW10 top point scorers

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my view on the fantasy premier league GW10 top point scorers. I’ve put them as a fantasy premier league team ie 2-5-5-3.

Where there has been players with the same score I’ve tried to pick payers from different teams

Begovic

Scored an amazing, if wind assisted, goal from his own penalty area to be the top scoring GK in fantasy premier league GW10 despite not getting a clean sheet. The Stoke defence has 3 clean sheets and before this gameweek I rated them the 11th best defence.  Personally I think he and the Stoke defence is over priced (especially now Wilson has been dropped) as the value was based on last years defensive set up under the previous manager.  For that reason he’s a definite ignore for me

Swansea (A)   Sunderland (H)   Everton (A)   Cardiff City (H)   Chelsea (H)   Hull City (A)

Harper

Short term replacement for the injured McGregor who is expected back for GW14.  Harper got his first clean sheet after 2 starts. I don’t think he will hold his place and McGregor will return so for that reason he stays an ignore for me

Southampton (A)  Crystal Palace (H)  Liverpool (H)  Arsenal (A)  Swansea (A)  Stoke City (H)

McAuley

Top equal scoring defender in fantasy premier league gameweek 10  equal with Caulker courtesy of a goal, clean sheet and a 3 point bonus as WBA beat Palace. Its now 4 clean sheets for WBA and the 2nd goal for McAuley. unfortunately,  I had just recommended Ridgewell who’s slightly better value and seemed to have good scoring ability as well. The WBA defence is worth investing in at the moment with reasonable fixtures to come (fixture ease ranking of 6) and 4 clean sheets. I rated them the 5th best defence before gameweek 10. McAuley or Ridgewell are the best options. Its a Buy for me

Chelsea (A)  Aston Villa (H)  Newcastle (A)  Man City (H)  Norwich (H)  Cardiff City (A

Caulker

As for McAuley,  a goal, clean sheet and 3 bonus points. The most expensive of the Cardiff defenders but the one with the goal threat. I don’t have any faith though in the Cardiff defence despite back to back clean sheets. The 2 consecutive clean sheets take the total to 3 clean sheets for the season but its still 13 goals conceded.  I rated them prior to this game the 17th best defence. Fixtures are ok with a 7 fixture ease ranking but I think there are better budget options so its an ignore for me.

Aston Villa (A)  Man Utd (H)   Arsenal (H)   Stoke City (A)   Crystal Palace (A)   West Brom (H)

Nastasic

Well I did get this one right. The CB scored, got a clean sheet and got 2 bonus points. Prior to this week I ranked them as the 9th best defence. Its now Citys 4th clean sheet and although they have tricky fixtures coming up, when Kompany returns I’m confident the clean sheets will roll in. The only question is will Nastasic be the CB or will Demichelis get the nod. Only time will tell so for the moment its a hold rather than a buy

Sunderland (A)  Tottenham (H)  Swansea (H)  West Brom (A)  Southampton (A)  Arsenal (H)

Jagileka

The Everton defence has bounced back after 4 games conceding 8 to get 2 consecutive clean sheets in GW9 and GW10. Prior to this fantasy premier league gameweek I ranked them the 7th best defence in the league and the GW10 clean sheet takes the total to 5 clean sheets for the year. The fixtures are good coming up as well. Personally I would buy Distin for less money rather than Jagielka but the Everton defence after creaking looks worth investing in again

Crystal Palace (A)  Liverpool (H)  Stoke City (H)  Man Utd (A)  Arsenal (A)  Fulham (H)

Chiriches

Played 3 games now in a row and its 3 clean sheets.   It will be interesting to see what happens when Rose is fit (or of ever at the rate his return gets postponed). Given the clean sheet record I’m starting to wonder if Rose will get in or whether AVB will maintain the status quo. I kind of think that Spurs need the attacking width which makes me think there will be a crunch point . I personally can’t see Vertonghen being dropped so if Rose returns it becomes a straight choice between Chiriches and Dawson. I still think Dawson will hold his place but its by no means a dead cert. For this reason although the Spurs defence is the best in the league and worth investing in with its 7 clean sheets, I think Chriches is too risky. Walker is the safest option for me.

Newcastle (H)   Man City (A)   Man Utd (H)   Fulham (A)   Sunderland (A)   Liverpool (H)

Cazorla

After nn injury interrupted start to the season  Cazorla is back and fit.  The goal scored against Liverpool  has  brought him  to the attention of fantasy premier league managers with an eye opening low ownership. It’s been a sluggish start return wise though with 1 goal and 1 assist in the 6 games he’s played. Arsenal have tricky fixtures now though so it seems a real punt to take Cazorla on at this time when there are ready made options in Giroud, Ramsey and Ozil plus Walcott returning. Its an ignore for me for the moment.

Man Utd (A)   Southampton (H)   Cardiff City (A)   Hull City (H)   Everton (H)   Man City (A)

Ramsey

Unbelievable is the only word you can use to describe Aaron Ramsey. Someone who has never scored more than 3 goals in a season has now scored 6 in 10 games (not forgetting the 4 assists) and not needing anything like the shots you would think are needed to achieve this feat.  My view, especially at the price, is that you just have to go with the form and he is still a Buy for me even with Arsenal about to hit a tricky run of fixtures.

Man Utd (A)   Southampton (H)   Cardiff City (A)   Hull City (H)   Everton (H)   Man City (A)

YYT

Here is another similar story to Ramsey. He’s scored 5 goals and 1 assist so far this season having never scored more than 6 in a season. He plays in a similar deep position although Ramsey recently seems to have more licence to stay forward centrally. The difference in my mind is that 3 of the goals have come from spectacular free kicks that just can’t surely be continued. He also has more defensive responsibility than Ramsey given the wobbles that have happened away from home with City whereas Flamini and Arteta are more natural sitters than Fernandinho. Lastly he’s far more expensive than Ramsey who, depending on when you bought him is a borderline cheapie and doesn’t burn a hole in your squad’s cash like YYT does.

Sunderland (A)  Tottenham (H)  Swansea (H)  West Brom (A)  Southampton (A)  Arsenal (H)

Silva

The number 1 midfielder in my “ones to watch” article of last week and I don’t expect that to change anytime this week. 3 goals and 3 assists in 7 games are pretty impressive stats and he’s has returned in 5 of those 7 games. Also has great underlying stats and getting into the box and shooting more as well. The fixtures arent easy for City but its questionable whether thats a major factor for Silva or the club given their attacking capability. Silva also seems an essential part of Pellegrini’s lineup which was shown in how quickly he returned from injury despite Nasris very good form

Sunderland (A)  Tottenham (H)  Swansea (H)  West Brom (A)  Southampton (A)  Arsenal (H)

JWP

Was one of the more popular chaeapies until he lost his place to Steven Davis. Took Davis’ place when injured and has now played 2 on the bounce with Davis on the bench against Stoke. Has good set piece involvement and delivery meaning an assist is always on the cards with Fonte and Lovren involved. Big question is whether he will hold his place and I personally would be reluctant to gamble having been burned when last doing it. Especially as cheapies are fairly abundant at the moment. Its an ignore for me.

Hull City (H)  Arsenal (A)  Chelsea (A)  Aston Villa (H)  Man City (H)  Newcastle (A

Aguero

8 goals and 7 assists plus arguably the best underlying stats with Luis Suarez make him a fairly essential purchase at the moment even as City’s fixtures stiffen. Its an incredible 5 goals and 5 assists in his last 4 matches. A definite buy. Rotation is an inherent risk and you need to plan your alternative captain in case he is rested.  Like Silva though he is looking a fairly essential player for Pellegrini who will at least allow him to give the domestic cups a wide berth.

RVP

6 goals and 2 assists so far this season in 9 games and 3 goals and 2 assists in his last 3. He’s finally come to life. It’s now onl a question of whether he’s worth the money against other options. Personally I think there are a number of good forwards who are alternative captain options and with his dwindling ownership (especially among active players) it’s no longer a problem to not own him. The issue of him not creating chances has yet to go away and his stats aren’t as good as Aguero or Suarez so for me he’s just not worth the price. Selling now or after the Cardiff game is probably the ideal time to do so.

Arsenal (H)   Cardiff City (A)   Tottenham (A)   Everton (H)   Newcastle (H)   Aston Villa (A)

Rooney

Far better value than RVP and just keeps returning despite playing behind RVP and not having the greatest underlying stats. 3 goals and 3 assists in 9 games and returned from 7/9 which is pretty good stuff. Uniteds fixtures are ok with an 11 fixture ease ranking.  Not sure there aren’t better alternatives.
