fantasy premier league best cheap forwards £7m or under – “ones to watch”

Here’s our look at the fantasy premier league best cheap forwards for £7m or under.  We’ve got a table of stats and a key to help you understand them.  Below that we’ve put some narrative on their prospects as well as the first 6 fixtures.  As these players are likely to be put into your team on the back of good fixtures as opposed to being season keepers then that has been the emphasis in this article including how we ranked them.  However the players were difficult to rank as there was no perfect combination of gametime security, good fixtures and proven FPL returns.  Everywhere there were compromises and I ummed and erred alot over the order  I guess thats why they are cheap!  However there should be enough stats and information to at least allow you to make an informed choice for your own team and ignore my rankings.

Key

Mins per FPL point 14/15:  The amount of minutes it takes a player to earn an FPL point in 14/15.  The lower the better

Mins per G/A 14/15:  The amount of minutes it takes to get a goal or assist.  For new players to FPL this is the only point of comparison

Fixt ease:  The ranking ease of the fixtures over the first 6 (3) games

Sakho

The West Ham forward may not have the best returns of last season or the best of the fixtures.  However the home games are excellent even if the away fixtures are terrible and he showed last year what he can do on a hot streak.  What he does have is good gametime prospects given the injuries to Carroll and Valencia. Some reinforcements joining and the Europa League may change that but at the moment he looks fairly certain to be the attacking focal point

Defoe

The Sunderland’s forward position is really about fixtures as his returns are pretty ordinary from last season to say the least.  The fixtures however are excellent and if he is ever going to show his goal scoring skills it’s got to be in these games while he’s fresh.  He looks like he should have good gametime prospects as well.

Leicester (A)
Norwich (H)
Swansea (H)
Aston Villa (A)
Spurs (H)
Bournemouth (A)

Jerome

I really can’t believe I’ve ranked him so high as I probably think he’s a bit of a donkey like most people.  The last time he was in the premier league his record was pitiful to say the least.  However on a per minute basis he performed just as well as Wilson in the Championship.  18 goals and 7 assists is not to be sniffed at.  The first 3 fixtures especially are very good.  Gametime looks secure although whether Norwich will want to get through the transfer window with their goal scoring hopes on Jerome remains to be seen

Jordan Ayew

The Aston Villa forward and Ghanian International had a good record for L’Orient last season with 12 goals and 7 assists in 31 games.  For Ghana he’s played 28 games and scored 6 goals.  He does face competition though from Kozak, Agbonlahor and Gestede although it’s difficult to think he will be left out after the transfer battle it took to get him here against alot of other clubs.  Again this is principally about fixtures rather than any proven pedigree in the premier league

Wilson

The Bournemouth striker has probably been the cheapie striker of choice for many FPL managers.  He was in my team until very recently. I have to say in the end the 2 away fixtures in GW2 and GW3 put me off to some extent.  I know West Ham conceded 2 goals at home to a Romanian side I’d never heard of but that was on the back of a sending off which changed the game.  There’s no doubting his record in the Championship, 20 goals and 13 assists in 45 games is nothing short of sensational.  After those 2 away fixtures the fixtures are then excellent.  Like many others at this price theres the adjustment to the premier league gamble.  Certainly this worked out ok for Austin and Ings last season but it did take some adjustment time.  Whether you choose him over other options may purely be about the 2 away games in GW2 and GW3. Has to be secure gametime wise.  I would be surprised if the signings of Gradel and Tomlin limited his gametime.

Ulloa

The Leicester striker started well, faded and lost his place then had a little spurt towards the end of the season.  The reurns are ok though and fixtures over the 6 are good.  Gametime can’t be certain though with a manager named “the tinkerman” and forwards in the squad of  Vardy,  Nugent, Kramaric and Okazaki competing for probably 2 places.

Sunderland (H)
West Ham (A)
Spurs (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Stoke (A)

Vardy

The Leicester striker probably didn’t play as centrally as Ulloa did but was sensational towards the end of the season wither wider or slightly withdrawn.  Returns did match Ulloas overall.  Same comments about the fixtures and gametime with the new manager and competition

Sunderland (H)
West Ham (A)
Spurs (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Stoke (A)

Murray

The Palace strikers returns when he came into the team finally towards the end of the season under Pardew were nothing short of incredible.  Unfortunately the fixtures aren’t the best to say the least although 2 of the first 3 are good.  There’s also the fact that Gayle, Wickham, Bamford, Chamakh  and Campbell are all in the squad competing for most often 1 place.

Norwich (A)
Arsenal (H)
Aston Villa (H)
Chelsea (A)
Man City (H)
Spurs (A)

Gomis

I may have been a little hard on Gomis in retrospect.  His overall returns last season weren’t that great but he did adjust once given the responsibility when Bony left.  The fixtures have 2 tricky games especially the first one away to Chelsea.   2 away games in the first 3 aren’t helpful but they aren’t that bad overall.  He does have gametime security though with new striker Eder likely to be an understudy.

Chelsea (A)
Newcastle (H)
Sunderland (A)
Man Utd (H)
Watford (A)
Everton (H)

Berahino

The WBA striker is easily the most popular of the cheap strikers.  However the fixtures and especially the first 3 aren’t great at all and that swung it against Berahino.  He should be fairly gametime secure even with the new striking signings as he gives something different.

Man City (H)
Watford (A)
Chelsea (H)
Stoke (A)
Southampton (H)
Aston Villa (A)
