PLAYER SUGGESTIONS

I normally only give attacking player suggestions for teams that have the best ranked fixtures for the first 3 and the first 6 games. This is the case this week.

Stoke

This was written before the GW23 Man Utd fixture tonight.

No one here for me at the moment.

However, they have a huge game against Huddersfield next and then great fixtures after that so if you’re in the mood for gambling you could go for £5.4m Mid Choupo Moting who does play as striker at times.  He’s got 4 goals and 4 assists in 18 starts plus 3 sub appearances but has only returned a goal or assist in 6 of those games.  His underlying stats could be worse but very patchy of late.

£6.0m Mid Shaqiri is the set piece man and a big gamble on current form.  He’s got 4 goals and 5 assists in his 19 starts plus 1 game as sub.  He’s returned in 8 of those games which isn’t a disaster for the price. However he’s on a barren run of form with none in his last 6 and pretty ordinary underlying stats

With Mark Hughes sacked and a caretaker in charge the players do have some new manager risk although that probably applies to Choupo Moting more than Shaqiri

Watford (H)
Bournemouth (A)
Brighton (H)
Leicester (A)
Southampton (A)

WEST HAM

As for last week still the same 2 players for me here. £7.0m Mid Arnautovic is the obvious one. 6 goals and an 3 assists in his last 7 games after a pretty poor start.  His underlying underlying stats are good and he also has had the huge advantage of being an FPL midfielder playing as a striker with only the injury risk Carroll and the seemingly on the way out Chicharito as competition.

£6.8m Mid Lanzini despite his 2 goals v Huddersfield, set pieces and number 10 position against Huddersfield for me is a still a secondary pick.   2 goals and 6 assists (3 coming against Stoke) in 17 games is an ok record but he’s only returned a goal or assist in 6 of those 17 games. That inconsistency and pretty ordinary underlying stats  are the negatives

Bournemouth (H)
Crystal Palace (H)
Brighton (A)
Watford (H)
Liverpool (A)
Swansea (A)

LEICESTER

My first choice here would be £8.6m Mid Mahrez.  In his 22 starts plus 1 sub appearance he’s got an impressive 7 goals and 10 assists including 5 goals and 4 assists in his last 10 games.  He’s been consistent too, returning a goal or assist in 14 of those 22 games.  If I was looking for negatives I would say his underlying stats don’t really back that up but he has shown the ability to out perform them and in 4 of the last 5 games they’ve been good.   He also has set pieces.

Only other option for me is £8.5m forward Jamie Vardy.  He’s got 9 goals and 2 assists in his 22 games and has returned a goal or assist in 10 of those games.  So he’s doing ok without being spectacular.  His underlying stats are the big disappointment.  They aren’t great at all and way way below his 24 goal title winning season.  They’re more like his other 3 seasons in the PL when he scored a maximum of 13 goals.  He can over perform them but it’s alot to rely on.

Watford (H)
Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Stoke (H)
Bournemouth (H)

FIXTURE CLUMPS

I won’t be doing fixture clumps anymore as the potential blank and double gameweeks as you’ll see in my article over this period could drastically change the fixture landscape
