fantasy premier league best fixtures GW3 – a fixture ease schedule for attacking players and defensive players

This article was written before Wolves v Man Utd on Monday night

Introduction

Last season I used the official fantasy premier league fixture difficulty ranking as the base for my fixture ease articles. This schedule divided fixtures up into 4 categories without distinguishing between teams attacking and defensive capabilities.

So for example to give the same ranking for the Arsenal and Bournemouth attack and defence didn’t seem to work for me as they both had good attacks but poor defence.

So I’ve started working on my own fixture ease schedule based on my own calculations. Here’s a bit of background on methodology

Methodology

While we are in the early part of the season there’s alot of reliance on the 18/19 fixtures.

The idea is to have 2 fixture ease schedules. One will rank the teams by the ease of the opposition defences they face over the upcoming games. That will be called the attackers fixture ease schedule.

The 2nd will rank the teams by the ease of the attacking teams they face. This will be called the defenders fixture ease schedule.

I have done this by looking at the goals scored last season to rank attacking teams and goals conceded last season to rank defensive teams on a home and away basis. I’ve then applied a factor against the average goals home and away. I have adjusted some of the factors if a team over or under performed their expected goals by a considerable margin but that was only in a low number of cases. For the promoted teams I have tried to find a proxy team from 18/19 teams and used their data although there are some adjustments as we get a look at them.  I’ve also made subjective adjustments for transfer activity. I will keep using last seasons data adjusted until I feel there is enough to move onto this seasons.

I have a fixture graphic below which I’ve colour coded for difficulty. It is just to improve the visual aspect of the schedule and the factors I’ve talked about above, rather than the just the colours, are basis for calculation.

  1. Hi Geek have a question, is there such a big difference between attacking prospects and defensive ones as United fixtures for example , rank 2 in for attacking fixtures ease and 20!! For defensive ease?
Thanks! Keep up the amazing work

    • Hi Yaniv.

Yes it is an extreme difference I agree. It’s probably the only example though of such a wide differential although everton are a decent diffierence apart too.

The fixtures that make a difference so Man Utd’s attacking prospects are much better are:

Crystal Palace defensively have been weakened by the loss of AWB and injuries to Sakho and Tomkins so I’ve negatively adjusted them defensively. In attack away they were league average last season. This makes Man Utd’s fixtures look stronger for their attackers than their defenders.

I’ve negatively adjusted Leicester for the loss of Maguire although Soyuncu could force that to change with 2 excellent performances to date. They were league average last season in attack. Again This makes Man Utd’s fixtures look stronger for their attackers than their defenders.

Arsenal were terrible defensively away from home although I have adjusted them slightly for Luiz. Away from home in attack they were pretty much League average. Again this makes Man Utd’s fixtures look stronger for their attackers than their defenders.

West Ham in attack I have given an upward adjustment for the signing of Haller and Fornals plus the fitness of Lanzini. Defensively away from home they were league average. Again this makes Man Utd’s fixtures look stronger for their attackers than their defenders.

Hope that all makes sense. Cheers John

  2. Help guys please– I have 2 FT this week and want to get Martial in for Perez this week. I have .5 saved and therefore these options:
    1. Perez and Tielemans (I got both with the plan to drop one in GW3, but neither look great) to Martial and Ceballos. Ceballos could be the bargain of the season if he nails the No. 10 role for Arsenal. He can also be a placeholder as we see how Mount and Trossard develop.; or
    2. C. Wilson (also have King) and Perez to Martial and Pukki. This option also gives the ability to shift King or Pukki to Barnes in GW5 when Burnley fixtures turn and/or Jota.

  3. What about Maupay??
Right now he isn’t a starter, but he will start in some point (near future) don’t you think. It was NOT a cheap signing for BHA. He won’t be benched, will he?

  4. Hi, I am very happy with my team now, but I am wondering about who to pick for my midfield for around 6m. I am debating Ndombele, Trossard and Mount. Which one would you pick and why?
