fantasy premier league best forwards – gameweek 3 “ones to watch”

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s my GW3 forwards “ones to watch” article. There’s a table of stats to help you make your choice and I’ve started to integrate this years numbers although obviously 2 games data does give fairly distorted results.  There’s a number of injury doubts so make sure you read the narrative.  The press conferences of managers will be important so read my lineup article later

Rooney

Named the England captain as well as the Man Utd captain.  After a good performance home to Swansea it was an exceptionally quiet performance at Sunderland where he barely had any pen box touches let alone a shot inside the box.  He also didn’t create a single chance for his team mates.  That was a pretty disturbing set of stats for someone who is part of a team  who last season were far better away than home.  However Rooney has 3 things going for him.  1 fantastic fixtures.  2 Consistent premier league form over the years makes him someone to stick with rather than dump after 1 poor game.  3.  46% ownership which will kill you if you don’t own him

Next 6 fixtures

Burnley (A)
QPR (H)
Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (H)
West Brom (A)

Aguero

Various stories abound over whether he’s injured or not and it’s only Pellegrini’s press conference today that will set it straight.  What does continue is the words from Pellegrini about nursing him back.  At the moment Aguero seems capable of scoring irrespective of minutes on the pitch.  Home to travel shy Stoke (even though its only an hour away)  is a great fixture to introduce him but the question of him starting continues.  Next 2 games after that though couldn’t be more difficult.  However Aguero and City score no matter what the opposition. Will have pens when on the pitch.

Stoke (H)
Arsenal (A)
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Aston Villa (A)
Spurs (H)

Sturridge

Rodgers saying that Sturridge will remain Liverpools number 1 striker will be music to the ears of his FPL owners.  One of last years most consistent returners was incredibly unlucky not to return against Manchester City.  Scored with and without Suarez last year so a good pointer to playing with or without Balotelli

Only 2 tricky fixtures in the next 6 although the next 1 at Spurs is 1 of them

Spurs (A)
Aston Villa (H)
West Ham (A)
Everton (H)
West Brom (H)
QPR (A)

Jovetic

Again the news conference for Pellegrini will be interesting for news on Dzeko but it seems from some reports that the cut he suffered against Liverpool will not prevent him playing.  The natural partnership of Dzeko and Aguero gets harder to put together while Jovetic continues to play well.  A very good 2 goal performance against Liverpool after an excellent preseason will make him hard to shift.  For those willing to take the gametime gamble then home to Stoke is an ideal fixture for the form to continue

Stoke (H)
Arsenal (A)
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Aston Villa (A)
Spurs (H)

Costa

Another press conference that we need to see is about Costas hamstring injury which seems to rule him out of the Everton game according to most reports.  What it does to the next game after the international break is the other question which may make some to hold on to him.  It’s a great start though with 2 goals in 2 games.  Disturbingly though only 1 bonus point from those 2 goals which shows his “fox in the box” style may not bring in the bonus points.  Everton will be the first test for Chelsea after 2 opening games against the newly promoted sides and a pointer for some more difficult fixtures to come

Everton (A)
Swansea (H)
Man City (A)
Aston Villa (H)
Arsenal (H)
Crystal Palace (A)

Adebayor

Rested for the midweek Europa League game is more good news for his FPL owners after a fantastic all round performance with a goal and assist in the 4-0 mauling of QPR.  Mixed fixtures coming up and the next 2 will give us a taste of how much Pochettino has advanced Spurs as an attacking force.  It does however seem that Adebayor is first choice and fits into the system.  Will have pens.

Liverpool (H)
Sunderland (A)
West Brom (H)
Arsenal (A)
Southampton (H)
Man City (A)

RVP

He had no shots, barely touched the ball in the penalty area and didn’t create a single chance in his 60 minutes first game back against Sunderland.  However a player of this quality with these fixtures and with pens in his locker can’t be ignored.  It just depends on how much faith you have that he’s back from injury and the World Cup and ready to go.

Burnley (A)
QPR (H)
Leicester (A)
West Ham (H)
Everton (H)
West Brom (A)

Dzeko

With Jovetic in great form and Aguero coming back to fitness all 3 Man City strikers have gametime risk.  Dzeko has the added complication of a thigh injury after the Liverpool game although that has been played down in the press.  However we should get some clarity from Pellegrini today.  However the reward for that risk is a home game to Stoke albeit with Arsenal and Chelsea to follow.  On his day he is a very good striker it’s just who will be playing for City in GW3

Stoke (H)
Arsenal (A)
Chelsea (H)
Hull (A)
Aston Villa (A)
Spurs (H)

Bony

Still no returns in 2 games but a far better performance against Burnley than against Man United.  Really this is about fixtures which apart from Chelsea are very good.  Certainly if you own him selling him before a WBA home game is a big risk.  The transfer window end should be interesting especially with Giroud long term injury and Wenger linked with Bony previously.  Will have pens.

West Brom (H)
Chelsea (A)
Southampton (H)
Sunderland (A)
Newcastle (H)
Stoke (A)

Lukaku

Expected back after an ankle/foot injury to face his old club at the weekend.  If you believe in old clubs visits as motivation there will be few players wanting to prove a point more than Lukaku.

Chelsea (H)
West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Liverpool (A)
Man Utd (A)
Aston Villa (H)
