Here’s some options for the fantasy premier league captain choice gameweek 4 options

Fantasy premier league captain gameweek 4 options

So here’s my captain options for gameweek 4.  I’ve picked 3 games as where I will be looking from

Chelsea v Swansea

Liverpool v Villa

Man Utd v QPR

So lets go through the options

Costa

4 goals in 3 games is about as good as it gets. 3 goals away and 1 goal at home.  At home interestingly was where Chelsea struggled as Leicester looked to defend deep and counter.  It remains to be seen whether this is will be an ongoing issue.  Burnley didn’t exactly charge forward against Chelsea and Chelsea blew them away with their passing

The main issue is whether Costa will start. Mourinho has said that he has a chance.  Full quote below:

“We had one week to work hard with the medical department and he has a chance to play tomorrow. We have a training session now to confirm his condition and make the final decision, but he was the only one who came back from the national team with a problem.”

Mourinho was far more negative before the Everton game about Costa and he still played.  The difficulty this week is that Chelsea play Schalke at home on Wednesday and then Man City in GW5.  If you want to rest him then this is the time to do it.

Not only has Costa scored more than any striker he’s had more shots in the box and more penalty box touches

Swansea have had 2 clean sheets to start the season and 3 wins.  However despite the apparent defensive solidity they are in the bottom third of shots conceded in the box.  Considering 2 of the games were against Burnley and WBA thats a little disturbing.  Anyone who saw the Burnley game will know that Burnley had long spells of dominance and really should have scored.

I think there should be goals.  The shadow is whether the Leicester game is something other teams can learn from  and frustrate Chelsea at home or whether they now have the passing domiance to break teams down.

Hazard

The Chelsea midfielder was invisible in 2 away games (although he did get an assist against Everton) but fantastic at home to Leicester.  Anything is possible in a home game with Hazard.  The problem is his consistency.  Last year despite being one of the best scoring midfielders he was one of the lowest for the % of times he returned a goal or assist.  However his ability to score big at home is unquestioned.  He’s got double figure scores against the bottom 7 sides last year in 13 games which is a good percentage.  Swansea aren’t that at the moment but they will probably end up mid table.  There’s potentially big reward but big risk due too inconsistency.

Sterling

Sterling is one of 4 midfielders who’ve scored twice behind Dyer who’s scored 3 times.  However like Costa Sterling leads the midfielders in shots in the box and only Sanchez has more pen box touches so his scoring is no fluke.  He will either play on the flank in a front 3 or behind 2 strikers centrally depending on how Rodgers deals with the Sturridge injury

Villa have also had 2 clean sheets but the opposition was Hull, Newcastle and Stoke.  You really couldn’t have picked up any easier 3 teams to play for your defense.  How they perform against Liverpool is a bit of a mystery given their defence is different than last year and Liverpool don’t have Sturridge or obviously Suarez from last year against them to compare to last season.  Liverpool in their only home game struggled against Southampton but were fantstic away to Spurs

Balotelli

Cerainly had his chances against Spurs and expected to start despite being under the weather during the week.  Should have the chances to score given he will be the focal point of the attack and should be very central waiting for chances to come to him.  Just can be a little static but Rodgers seems convinced of his attitude

 Rooney, Falcao and RVP

Where to start for this game?  I’ve decided to deal with them all in 1 section.  Firstly, QPR have only played 1 away game and that was the disaster away from home at Spurs where they lost 4-0.  The 2 home games haven’t been a big issue with 1 clean sheet and 1 goal conceded but they were against Hull and Sunderland.  Their defence looks good in theory with Green, Ferdinand and Caulker in the heart of it.  However with the talent in the United team it’s impossible not to see goals

Unless LVG does with 4-3-3 or Falcao starts on the bench then Rooney will probably shift back into the Mata position behind the striking pair.  Mata could end up on the bench in this situation.  This has to put Rooney at a goal scoring disadvantage although it gives him more assist potential.

The only risk around Falcao is whether he starts from the bench.  There’s no indication of that it just happens for debuts at times.  However he won’t get a much better chance to score than QPR and LVG may see it as an ideal way of him debuting by starting this game.  Just to remind you Falcao is someone who scored 28 goals and 3 assists in 34 games for A Madrid in 12/13. Whether the previous knee  injury will be an issue is another risk.  This season though he’s already scored 2 goals in 3 games for Monaco which is positive

The only issue with RVP is general fitness although he has started the last 2.  He will have pens and doesn’t have the risks that Falcao and Rooney have above

Bookmaker odds

Ok lets see the anytime goal scoring odds from one bookmaker at £2.00 or under

£1.61 – Falcao

£1.67 – Balotelli

£1.70 – Diego Costa, RVP

£1.73 – Rooney

£1.80 – Remy,

£1.83 – Sterling

£1.91 – Drogba

Hazard is £2.15 by the way.  I’ve discounted Remy and Drogba although they could come into play if Costa doesn’t start.  I’ve covered the rest.  Their order is interesting though with Falcao the favourite.

Thats it hope it gave you some food for thought.  At the moment I’ve gone for Costa with Rooney next although I could easily swap that.
