fantasy premier league captain – gameweek 15 options

Firstly lets look at the games where there’s likely to be a dominant team and lots of goals

Newcastle v Chelsea

Man City v Everton

Tottenham v Palace

Liverpool v Sunderland

Costa and Aguero are my picks from the first 2 fixtures.  I definitely don’t have confidence in Liverpool to pick anyone.  Spurs team selection worries me as well as inconsistency so I’m swerving them as well.  That means this week is a straight analysis of Costa vs Aguero.

Costa (Newcastle Away)

Will he start?

With a rest midweek and the Champions League game a dead rubber then it’s inconceivable he will start against Sporting.  Therefore given Mourinho’s positive words that he will start then it seems inconceivable that he wont.

Whats his record and consistency like overall and away?

Overall he’s scored 11 goals in 11 games.  He’s returned a goal or assist in 8/11 games overall.  Thats a 73% return rate.  Away he’s scored 4 goals in 5 games.  Away he’s returned in 3 of 5 games which is a 60% return rate.

How has he performed against lower placed opposition away?

Newcastle aren’t really that at the moment but Costa blanked against Sunderkland and scored againt Burnley.

Whats his recent away form like?

Here’s his last 4 away games:

EVE(A) 6-3    90 minutes    2 goals   12 points
MCI(A) 1-1    85 minutes     Blank     1 point
LIV(A) 2-1    89 minutes     1 goal     7 points
SUN(A) 0-0  75 minutes     Blank     1 point

So a bit mixed

Whats his underlying shooting and creating chances like?

Very good for shooting and creating chances either recently or over the whole season.

Whats the opposition defence like?

Here’s their last 4 home games:

HUL(H) 2-2
LEI(H) 1-0
LIV(H) 1-0
QPR(H) 1-0

So pretty good defensive form.  Leicester and QPR are 2 of the better teams to face though.

Over the season they’ve got 3 clean sheets in 6 home games. 3 consecutive as you can see above.  Only Chelsea , Suthampton and Swansea have more at home.  Goals conceded at home are 7 which is mid table.  Their underlying defensive stats are good.

Overall thoughts?

I think that his away form is a little mixed and Newcastle have shown themselves to be defensively sound recently  so not as clear cut as you would like

Aguero (Everton H)

Will he start?

Interesting one.  Having played midweek he will definitely need to play againt Roma in the Champions League as that Group hangs in the balanvce to say the least.  However it’s impossible to see him not playing given City’s reliance on him at the moment.  This is especially so against Everton who despite their troubles aren’t say a bottom 3 side

Whats his record and consistency like overall and at home?

Overall he’s scored 14 goals and 3 assists in 12 starts and 2 sub appearances for City in the League.  He’s returned in 10/14  games which is 71%.  At home his record is 6 goals and no assists in 6 games.  His consistency isn’t so great though with him returning a goal or assist in 3 games out of 6 which is 50%

Whats his recent home form like?

CHE(H) 1-1    90 minutes    Blanked    2 points
TOT(H) 4-1    90 minutes    4 goals     19 points
MUN(H) 1-0 83 minutes     1 goal       8 points
SWA(H) 2-1  90 minutes     Blanked   2 points

So surprisingly mixed.  Overall recent form though is 5 goals and 2 assists in his last 5 games.

Whats his underlying stats like?

His shooting stats are the best of any striker.  Creating chances is starting to come as well.

Whats the opposition defence like?

Here’s their last 4 away games.

MUN(A) 1-2
BUR(A) 3-1
SUN(A) 1-1
TOT(A) 1-2

So no clean sheets and 6 goals in 4 games although 2 good teams in that

Away overall it’s mixed.  Only 1 clean sheet in 7 games but they’ve only conceded 9 goals.  Only 4 sides have conceded less.

Overall thoughts?

While I am a big believer in stats, in this form especially Aguero can score any amount, against anyone, anywhere

Bookmaker check

Here’s the anytime goal scoring odds at £2.00 or under for one bookmker as of this morning:

£1.75 – Aguero

£1.83 – Costa

£1.90 – Harry Kane

£2.00 – Soldado

I havent considered Kane as I would be nervous giving the captains armband to someone so new to the league and Soldado assuming he’s selected has alot to do to be trusted with the armband for me

Personally I’m going for Aguero

Good luck today
