Ok here’s my fantasy premier league captain options for gameweek 12
Fantasy premier league – captain options gameweek 12
Background
Firstly I’ve done this post rather early in the week so you need to double check any injury or other gametime issues.
Just as a general point. I did alot of research on where the 10 point plus fantasy premier league attacking scores came from and the vast majority came from the top 4 challenging teams playing the relegation threatened teams. Now that may sound like common sense and it is how I look at where the captain choices should come from. The theory is simple, you get more shots against the poorer teams. What was interesting is that there wasn’t much variance between the home fixture and the away fixture. The opposition was key.
Options
Suarez
- Will he start?
Yes. Is playing in 2 WCQ playoffs but its inconceivable barring injury that he wont start in such a fixture.
- How consistent is he generally and away?
Has started back in fantastic form. Although has had kind fixtures. Returned in 5/6 games so far. Returned in 2/3 games away. Only game he didn’t return in was the Arsenal away game where he was unlucky not to score.
- How has he performed against good opposition so far
Only played Arsenal away as a comparable fixture. He was excellent and unlucky not to score.
- Whats his recent form like
Unreal. Overall it 8 goals and 3 assists from 6 games. He’s returned in his last 4 from 5.
- Whats his underlying stats like
It’s pretty much between him and Aguero for the best underlying shooting and creating chance stats. Has the ability to get assists if the goal scoring chances don’t go in.
- Whats the opposition defence like
Everton I rated as the 3rd best defence overall. At home they’ve conceded 3 goals in 5 games and got 3 clean sheets. This is one of the best records. The underlying defensive stats aren’t as rosy though and more like a mid table team. Comparable fixtures were home to Chelsea and Spurs were the scores were 1-0 and 0-0 respectively. However, having a good defence against the top 4 challenging teams and the rest of the league is a different story. Its worth remembering that Chelsea and Eto’o could have scored a hatful. I definitely think there will be goals.
- Is he an option?
Yes Definitely
Remy
- Will he start?
Yes. One of the first on the team sheet
- How consistent is he generally and at home?
In 9 games played he’s got 7 goals and 1 assist. He’s returned in 6 of 9. He’s returned in 3/4 home games only not doing so against Liverpool
- How has he performed against poor opposition so far?
very good. At home 2 goals against Hull and an assist in 17 minutes against Fulham
- Whats his recent form like
In the last 5 he’s scored 4 goals and 0 assists. He’s returned in 3/5
- Whats his underlying stats like
Good shooting and creating chances stats but well behind most of the leading strikers. Is he over performing or just clinical? At the moment he looks clincal.
- Whats the opposition defence like
away from home, 14 goals conceded in 5 games. The worst in the division although distorted by the 7-0 thrashing by Man City. They have conceded in every game except away to Stoke. Underlying defensive stats haven’t been as bad but still among the worst 6.
- Is he an option?
Yes
Aguero
- Will he start?
Its inconceivable that he wont start in such an important fixture
- How consistent is he generally and at home?
In 10 games hes returned in 7 with an incredible 8 goals and 7 assists. At home he’s scored in 4/5 games. He only didn’t score against Hull.
- How has he performed against good opposition so far
The opposition are irrelevant. 2 against Man Utd at home. A goal and an assist against Everton at home. Scored away to Chelsea.
- Whats his recent form like
4 goals and 5 assists in his last 5 games. Returned in 4/5. Only failed against Sunderland away where he did everything but score.
- Whats his underlying stats like
Excellent shooting and creating chances stats. Only Suarez is comparable
- Whats the opposition defence like
Overall I rate them the best defence in the league. Away from home they’ve only conceded 1 goal. That was at Arsenal. Underlying defensive stats are the best by some difference. Arsenal away was the only comparable fixture
- Is he an option?
Yes because he has shown that he can score no matter who the opposition are. Silva injured isn’t ideal but the 4-1 win over Man Utd was without Silva and Nasri has the quality to pick up the slack to a large degree.
RVP
- Will he start?
Obviously we’re going through the normal toe/groin injury drama that we do every week. Possibly needs more news if Moyes can be bothered giving it earlier than 1 hour before kick off
- How consistent is he generally and away from home?
7 goals and 2 assists in 10 games. Played 4 games away returning in 2. Didn’t return away to Liverpool and Sunderland. Did against Swansea and Fulham.
- How has he performed against poor opposition so far
Scored against Fulham but not against Sunderland. So a bit of a mixed bag. Cant forget 2 seasons as the best striker in the league though.
- Whats his recent form like
Excellent. 4 goals and 2 assists in his last 5 games. Returned in 4/5
- Whats his underlying stats like
Weirdly the last 2 scoring games he’s been very quiet ad Rooney has been more dominant. Over the season the shooting stats have been great but hasn’t been creating chances for others.
- Whats the opposition defence like
Not too bad at home. 5 goals conceded at home in 5 games and 2 clean sheet. Mid table. Close to the worst underlying defensive stats though. Comparable games are Man city where they won 3-2 and Spurs where they lost 1-0 but were under siege most of the game. Man Utd will score a few here in my view.
- Is he an option?
Yes his form is good now. Despite the underlying stats being quiet in the last 2 you cant forget his class and scoring record. should take pens as well, even after the Sociedad miss
Rooney
- Will he start?
Yes sure too.
- How consistent is he generally and away from home?
5 goals and 6 assists in 10 games. Returned in 8/10. Played 4 games away returning in 3. Didn’t return away to Sunderland. Did against Swansea, Man Cityand Fulham.
- How has he performed against poor opposition so far
Scored against Fulham but not against Sunderland. A great flat track bully historically. Mainly reserved for home games though.
- Whats his recent form like
Excellent. 2 goals and 4 assists in his last 5. Returning in 4/5.
- Whats his underlying stats like
Good creating chances stats but no real shooting stats. Hasn’t needed it historically but this is pushing it.
- Whats the opposition defence like
As for RVP.
Yes. Despite the underlying stats the form and overall consistency are excellent.
Summary:
Yes in order:
1. Rooney
2. RVP
3. Remy
4. Suarez
5. Aguero
I’ve gone with opposition over form so it will be an interesting weekend.
William Hill check
Here’s how William Hill see the anytime goal scorer odds market with all players at under £2.00
1. RVP – £1.73
2. Rooney – £1.91
Remy – £1.91
Suarez and Aguero are at £2.00. Giroud and Eto’o are also £2.00
We’re reasonably aligned although they give better odds to RVP than Rooney
Eto’o is just a gametime issue. Giroud is due to nervousness over the Saints defence.
I hope that gives you some food for thought for your fantasy premier league captain choice. It will be a gameweek where various captains will be used which will give a chance to move up the fantasy premier league rankings
