Sterling vs De Bruyne Stats

Gametime

Firstly who knows with Pep so whatever logic you try and put to it you have to accept the lottery risk.

De Bruyne had the International break off. He then played 90 minutes GW9 and 67 minutes in the Champions League midweek

Sterling played twice in the International Break 90 minutes and 73 minutes I believe.  He played 90 minutes in GW9 and 90 minutes in the Champions League midweek.

Midweek is the EFL cup where they are home to Southampton and then repeat that fixture in GW11.

Logic would dictate that De Bruyne is therefore the safest gametime wise but logic appears to play little part in predicting Man City gametime.

You take the facts and then roll the dice accordingly.

Stat comparison

relevant stats v non top 6 opposition 19/20

PPM is FPL points per match

xG PG and xA PG is expected goals and assists per game.

SPG and KPPG is shots and key passes per game

full 19/20 stats

Here’s their full stats so far. Same definitions except all appearances (sub or not) count

Defences

Since they’re both playing Villa there’s no comparison to do but it’s worth stating the basic stats.

Villa are:

15th ranked in goals conceded away with 8 in 4 away games

14th ranked in xGA away despite playing 4 games rather than 5

20th in shots per game away against with 23.8

20th in offsides per game away which I guess shows they’re trying to defend deep

17th in possession away from home.

Summary

Gametime wise you would say De Bruyne is a safer bet to start than Sterling if there was any logic to Pep’s selections

The bookies have Sterling at £1.57 anytime goal scoring odds.  This bookie doesn’t rate De Bruyne as a goal threat and he is £2.87 to score anytime

The Polls for who you are going to captain have Sterling at 40%, De Bruyne at 27% and Aguero at 19%

As I write this 7 contributors have gone for Sterling 10 have gone for De Bruyne

Stats wise Sterlings 2 home games against non top 6 opposition make pretty terrible reading whereas De Bruynes couldn’t be better.  Overall games though Sterling has the edge underlying stats wise De Bruyne points per match wise.

Villa look like a lower mid table defence who concede a lot of shots and play deep.  They’ve average 2 goals and  2expected goals away from home.

Aguero is the penalty take for Man City

FFGeek view

Before I did this I was going for Sterling as I prefer his additional goal threat although the 2 home games against lower opposition weren’t helpful and I may go for De Bruyne.  I won’t decide until I do my team article which is next
