Stats comparison
Aubameyang v Salah
I’ve ignored De Bruyne due to the uncertainty as to whether he will play
Gametime
I expect Aubameyang to play both matches and Salah to line up v Bournemouth considering he was on the bench in the midweek FA Cup game
Salah in selected home matches
Aubameyang in selected home matches
I’m not going to do the 2nd match as I think the home 1 is the crucial match and the away one is icing. It’s against a Man City defence that is 2nd/3rd to Liverpool with Man Utd.
The Bournemouth away defence
14th ranked away with goals conceded 24 from 14 games
They are 16th in xG conceded away with 25.66.
Shots per game against away they are 15th with 15.6
The West Ham away defence
11th ranked away with goals conceded 23 from 14 games
19th in xG conceded away with 30.36.
Shots per game against away they are 19th with 16.3
West Ham have the biggest gap between goals conceded away and xGA. Down in part to Fabianski or unsustainable luck.
Summary
I suspect both Salah will start and Aubameyang will start both. De Bruyne is still a doubt which is why I haven’t put stats up.
The anytime goalscorer odds have Aubameyang at £1.57 and Salah at £1.65. No odds for game 2 as yet.
The FFGeek poll was reset after the DGW announcement but there would have been some De Bruyne votes before the injury doubt news came through. But it’s Aubameyang a clear leader at 53% to Salah and De Bruyne at 19%. Hard to know on the other polls as I only know that poll 1 with similar numbers was reset
Of the 18 FFGeek contributors only 6 have Aubameyang and surprisingly a number chose not to captain him. Salah was the overwhelming captain favourite.
The stats in terms of the home games favour Salah comfortably over Aubameyang but obviously Aubameyang has the City match as well. Aubameyang is the forward who has most over performed his stats but that is mitigated by the fact that he hasn’t had the penalties you’d expect. It’s also worth mentioning that Arsenal are 10th in xG this season. Behind Watford, Burnley and Sheffield United.
The West Ham defence away looks worse than the Bournemouth defence amazingly but they have performed relatively credibly in matches recently vs Man City and Liverpool.
Salah will take pens if Milner is off the filed. Aubameyang will have pens.
The FFGeek choice
I don’t have Aubameyang but if I did he would be my captain given the polls and the 2 fixtures. I just don’t trust Pep to play De Bruyne twice although if I had to bet I would say he will. In that case Salah will probably become my captain by default
