Some stats

This week I’m looking at the poll leaders of  Kane and Salah

Gametime

Neither of the 2 poll leaders have straightforward fixtures so even in this period of the season I think both will start.

Kane’s stats

Here’s Kanes starts in 18/19 against non top 6 sides at home.

Considering the opposition it’s ok but you’d be looking for more.

Returns in 4/5 games, 1 double figure score and backed up by pretty good underlying stats although the recent shot volumes have decreased.

Overall points per 90 mins when on the pitch is 6.3 and he’s returned a goal or assist in 12 of his 18 starts which is 67%.

The Wolves away defence against top 6 sides

There  won’t be many sides with defensive stats like that against top 6 sides

Overall the Wolves defence is 5th equal in goals conceded with 22 and also 10th in xG conceded.

Away they are ranked 4th equal with 9 goals conceded from 9 games and ranked 2nd with xG conceded.

Defensively they are at full strength

Salah

Here’s his starts against top 6 sides at home:

So no returns in 2/2 games. Underlying stats are poor 2.  How much of a pointer though for this game is a bit unclear.

Overall Salah’s points per 90 mins when on the pitch is 7.8 and he’s returned a goal or assist in 11 of his 18 starts which is 61%.

The Arsenal away defence against top 6 sides

2 contrasting games.  The 2nd seeing quite an improvement

Overall the Arsenal defence is 7th equal in goals conceded with 25. They are also 7th in xG conceded.

Away they are ranked 11th  with 16 goals conceded from 9 games but ranked 5th in xG conceded.

Injuries are an issue though.  Bellerin and Holding are out.  Mustafi should be ok but Monreal is very doubtful.

The 2 players lined up as a comparison

Here I’ve just taken the averages and lined them up so it’s easier to compare. I’ve then marked in green who has the best stat of the 2.

Summary

I would be shocked if either player didn’t start as both fixtures aren’t easy ones and will need a full strength team.

Kane has pens and with Milner out Salah will also have them.

The bookies odds for anytime goal scoring see Salah edging it at £1.67 to Kanes £1.73.

The polls are for Kane by about 45% to 17%.

The FFGeek contributors pretty much have gone for Kane by 10 to 1 for Salah.

The stats see 2 blanks for Salah against Man City and Man Utd but I’m not sure that’s reflective of his ability particularly.  Kane’s stats are ok with a point average of 6 but you’d want better for the opposition.  His shot volumes have dropped off in the last 3 games shown.

The Wolves defence looks the better of the 2 and looks to be one of the better defences in the league.  Arsenal conceded 5 goals in their 2 top 6 away games Wolves 2.  That’s overall though and some recent performances by Wolves haven’t been so good.

The FFGeek choice

I only have Kane so for me there’s no choice.  However if I did have both I would probably go Kane due to the polls.  However if I disregard the polls and do it purely on who I think will score the most points irrespective of risk, I’d probably edge it on Salah as he seems to be the more consistent performer and Arsenal have the worst of the 2 defences.
