So I’m going to look at Salah and Aubameyang’s stats

Gametime

No reason Salah shouldn’t start.  Aubamayang is less straight forward.  On Thursday he was sick but Emery said he should be ok.  There is a football London reporter who says he didn’t train on Friday and said he wasn’t pictured travelling to Huddersfield. He added that he was told that didn’t necessarily mean he wasn’t travelling.

Salah

Here’s Salah’s home games against non top 6 opposition

So returns 7 of 9 games and a healthy points per game average backed up by great xG/xA numbers.  Probably the negative is the drop off in shot volumes.  For a guy who averages over 3 shots per game to suddenly only have 6 in the last 4 home games against non top 6 opposition isn’t great

The Bournemouth away defence against top 6 sides

So it doesn’t get much worse.  The shot volumes apart from Chelsea are ok but the xG (Chelsea apart again) are terrible

So overall the Bournemouth defence has conceded 44 goals from 25 games and is ranked 16th on that basis.  In xG conceded they are ranked 14th.

Away from home it’s worse.  They have conceded 27 from 12 games and are 19th ranked on that basis.  On xG conceded they are 16th.

Aubameyang

Here’s Aubameyangs games against non top 6 sides away

So returns in 6 of 8 games .  Shooting volumes are low as he’s a pen box poacher to some extent but the xG is ok.

The Huddersfield defence at home against top 6 sides

So shot volumes ok but xG and goals conceded are poor.

So overall the Huddersfield defence has conceded 46 goals from 25 games and is ranked 19th on that basis.  In xG conceded they are ranked 15th.

At home they have conceded 20 from 13 games and are 16th ranked on that basis.  On xG conceded they are 19th.

Here we put the 2 captain candidates together to compare as well as the defences

 Summary

Gametime sees no reason Salah shouldn’t start.  Aubameyang has been ill on Thursday but should be ok was the phrase used.  There are some reports that he hasn’t travelled.  It’s hard to know the truth though.

Aubameyang has penalty duties.  Salah if Milner is off the pitch.

The bookies odds favour Salah at £1.60 to Aubameyang 1.95 ATGS.

The polls favour Salah over Aubameyang by 59 to 21%.

The contributors of the 6 so far have all gone Salah

Stats also favour Salah and he probably on the stats strictly he faces the worst defence.

The FFGeek choice

I don’t have Aubameyang and the sickness and travelling information have made me doubt whether I should get him in as I originally planned.  However everything points to Salah for me anyway.
