fantasy premier league – catch up Questions and Answers 8/11/2013 part 1

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s a few of the fantasy premier league questions I’ve been getting and my attempts to answer. I’d like to answer far more but my work as a corporate drone to pay the rent unfortunately just doesn’t give the time.  Lots of challenging questions  which is good and always welcomed.  In fantasy premier league you can never be made to think more deeply about  your views enough times!

Q1

mig
ivano gibbs clyn chester williams
hazard silva ramsy brady powers
auguro swarez giro
i think i need help with gettin rid of giru thinkin bentekke and need migs out maybe after this game…help

A1

Hi I think your team looks good. I would maybe think again about Gibbs and Chester (maybe for Dawson or walker) but i don’t see any desperate need to get rid of Giroud although Benteke has good fixtures . Good luck

Q2

So here is my team:
Mignolet, Boruc
Zab, Walker, Fonte, Coleman, Chico
Oscar, Ramsey, Barkley, Brady, Cabaye
Aguero, Rooney, Sturridge
Which 4 players should I bench?
And who is the best captaining choice?

A2

Wow good team! Tough one. I would probably bench Boruc to not put all my eggs in the Saints basket. I would also bench Brady as he’s away to Saints and has been on the bench in the last couple of games. That’s the easy 2 then I would put Cabaye on the bench as its a difficult game away to Spurs. The last one is the worst, probably Barkely due to game time risk and diminishing returns recently. My captain would be Aguero. See captain article link below.

Q3

You’re website has been a valuble gem for me the last few weeks.
so im wondering if you wouldnt mind taking the time looking at my team.
I really struggled last week and fell out the top 10k.
Below is my preliminary team for week 11.
Migonolet. (got to go after fulham! thinking loris long term)
fonte, terry, coleman, Dawson, (chester. waiting till jan to w.c)
ozil, ramsey, silva, (cabaye, Januzi)
Aguero, Lulaku, Suarez
I think my defense is a mess, especially since all the points are generally drawn from there lately. Any suggestions regarding line up and/or potential improvements?
Thanks in advance.

A3

Hi thanks for the comments.  Another excellent team, by the way, I think there would be 3 million  fantasy premier league managers who wouldn’t think that dropping out of the top 10k is struggling!  I don’t see how you think your defence is a mess. Maybe you could change Chester for Rat but that is the only change I would make.

 Q4

Heh cheers for this I am playing my wildcard this week. My team is literally the same..
Boruc (Mignloet)
Coleman – Rat – Vlarr -Clyne (Davis)
Ramsey – Oscar – Morrison (Janujazi, Brady)
Suarez – Ageuro – Rooney
My issue is I dont want Jan and need a 5 million mid to replace… any ideas?
Also who would you go with long term oscar or hazard can decide.

A4

If you dont want Januzaj the best options are Amalfitano, R Morrison and Kasami. I think  Hazard is better than Oscar but its difficult to call as there are arguments for both. Neither have great consistency of returns in fact Hazard is terrible. He does have better underlying stats than Oscar which could suggest an upturn towards last years returns. Oscar is about position, playing centrally as a number 10. He can get into the box and can score from outside it’s just not happening with the regularity that you’d like and you’re relying on clinical finishing and getting really good chances.  Check on hazards gametime this week over missed training btw.  see my 12w midfield article linked below

Q5

My team is as follows:
Goalie: Boruc
Defence: Fonte, Rat, Dawson
Midfield: Hazard, Ozil, Ramsay, Morrison
Strikers: Suarez, Aguero,Giroud
Please advise if this team structure is ok for the next few games including game 11.

A5

Looks good the only comment I would make is 3 Arsenal players as you go into a tough series of fixtures. I personally would swap Ozil for Silva or Giroud for Rooney Benteke or Lukaku (check his injury progress).

 Q6

Choosing between R. Morrison and Barkley to complete my midfield trio for gw11 along with hazard and Ramsey. Advice on who to start? I know Morrison is safer game time but fancy Barkley against palace if he can regain the starting spot.

A6

Personally I would take the punt and start Barkley. My gut feel is he will return to the team after making an impression when he came on against Spurs and even then I would almost rate his chances better as sub than Morrison who will face a Norwich team set up and desperate not to lose.

 Q7

Great work as always admin. Any thoughts on the return of continuo for the Fulham game? Think I’m gonna swap for michu, since I have nothing in the bank

A7

Thanks for the comments.  I did think about him. There’s no doubt that if you’re a believer this is the game to buy him. Personally I didnt think that, although he provided some creativity when he came on and worked with Suarez drifting left,  he was a bit rusty and over hit alot of thru balls. I wasn’t sure he would start and I thought if he did he would play left rather than centrally. I just cant see him playing 3 such attacking players centrally. Add to that his poor start to the season and I didn’t think he warranted inclusion. On the positive side though he did show alot of quality last year and does have 2 excellent strikers to finish off any chances created so although its the punt now is the time to do it.

Q8

How come arnautovic has not been mentioned anywhere..Stoke have a decent run of games (better than west brom/west ham) and i really think after being given the role to play in the hole, arnautovic could be a real value..But amalfitano is the one with the proven returns..Really confused between these two..Any advice is welcome !

A8

Hi thanks for this its a good prompt.  I have thought about Aranautovic long and hard.  So far this season he’s scored 1 goal and 1 assist in 7 games and his price is £5.5m.  My issue is also with Stoke who are a team that has scored 7 goals in their first 10 games and failed to score in 5.  WBA have fared better latterly after Amafitano joined scoring 10 goals in the 7 games he’s been there.  He’s got 2 goals and 2 assists himself.  Underlying stats are reasonably equal. I dont agree with your view of the fixture ease particularly with West Ham who have Norwich, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Sunderland  in their next 6.  Hope that helps and good luck whoever you choose!

Q9

Why Brady sell? He was on the bench as returning from injury. He will be certain starter when fit.

A9

Hi I have to admit I was struggling to find anything that said he was on the bench due to fitness rather than Bruce wanting to keep the same team so i treated him as a sell especially with a difficult game coming up.  In retrospect I may have been a little hasty and he should be a hold until the position is clearer.  Thanks for pointing this out.  Any feedback like this is welcome.

 Q 10

I have Mignolet in my team. I think he’s worth holding longer than the Fulham game. After Everton, Liverpool have Hull City (A) Norwich (H) West Ham (H). All 3 of those teams have terrible attacking options… surely 3 big chances for clean sheets!

A10

Did I actually say that  you should sell after the Fulham game?  I think I classified him as a hold and said ” However there is no point in selling before the Fulham home game but no clean sheet here and then I would lose what little faith I have left in the Liverpool defence”  I think I mean dont sell now just review the position after Fulham  although its not the clearest piece of writing thats for sure so apologies for that and thanks for pointing it out.  Anway  on your point  I agree in theory,  I agree its just 7 games in a row without a clean sheet and no underlying stats to suggest an improvement.  And if it transpirs that you can’t keep a clean sheet against Fulham then surely there is no hope.  A reminder that 4 consecutive games without a clean sheet  were  Sunderland A Crystal Palace H Newcastle A and WBA H all of which had clean sheet potential as well didn’t get 1 clean sheet.  Hope that helps and thanks for the comments
