Fantasy premier league DGW24 – a look at the Liverpool combinations and what the FFGeek contributors are planning

Fantasy Premier League

With fantasy premier league DGW24 coming up next week here’s an early look at the possible combinations that you could have for the Liverpool players in that gameweek.  There’s also a poll at the end for you to tell the readers what combination you are planning.  I’ve decided to do it now as a bit of an early heads up

DGW24 the fixtures

Liverpool and West Ham play twice in GW24.

Here’s the fixtures in their entirety

The Liverpool perfect storm

According to my fixture ease schedules Liverpool have the best attacking and defensive fixtures over the next 6 weeks.  I also rate them as the best defensive team and they will be favourites to win their upcoming games.

Here are the fixtures upcoming:

GW23 MUN (H)
DGW24 WOL (A)
DGW24 WHU (A)
GW25 SOU (H)
GW26 NOR (A)
GW27 WHU (H)
GW28 WAT (A)
GW29 BOU (H)
GW30 EVE (A)
GW31 CRY (H)

So for me given the above factors I personally think it’s worth having 3 Liverpool players in your team.  It’s just what combination

Rotation

I personally find it a bit of a pointless inevitable wait for disappointment to try and predict managers rotation.  Klopp has been easier to predict than Pep this season but he has shown he’s not afraid to rest any player.

Alexander Arnold and Robertson have started every PL game except for 1 each.  Mane after being a sub in GW1 has only not started 1 and Salah hasn’t started 3 as he was treated with kid gloves when he had injury niggles.

They have a FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury which will see a reserve team play undoubtedly.  Their round of 16 Champions League tie isn’t until 18 February just before GW27  so that bodes well.

The 3 games on GW24 and GW25 are Thursday then Wednesday and then Saturday which again could be worse.  The Shrewsbury tie is between the Thursday and Wednesday.

Combinations

Alexander Arnold, Salah and Mane

This is the all guns blazing attitude to the double gameweek and is driven by the double gameweek and the fixtures beyond.

The most common argument against it is the damage that it causes to the rest of your team.  Particularly if you are planning on keeping De Bruyne and Vardy and if your team value isn’t £106.5 like Yaniv’s is.  Sorry to keep mentioning you Yaniv.

Personally I think that Salah and Mane offer value for money irrespective of whether you captain them or not.  The challenge is more whether the rest of your team will.

On the positive side it gives you maximum chance of taking advantage of Liverpools attacking form and you also will likely have the best captain option each week if there are swings in choices varying between the 2.

This personally is my choice at the moment.

My transfers to get this are looking like:

Gomez to Holgate

Alli to Salah

Jimenez to Calvert Lewin

-4 point deduction

At the moment that is a sacrifice I am willing to make even though dropping Alli before a home game to Norwich is very difficult.

The other contributors who, at the moment, are planning on following that route are Rob Reid, Andrew Whitfield, Yaniv Salomon, Rick Porter, Kev in Canada, Andrew Pratt and Mikael Danielsen

Alexander Arnold, Robertson and Mane or Salah

This article is not intended to be a comparison between Mane and Salah but in brief their points per match are similar and their underlying stats are similar.  The 2 differences in Salah’s favour are that Salah shoots more and will have penalties when Milner (who is currently injured) is off the pitch.

Mane is owned by more players in the top 10k and overall (40% ish to 25% ish) according to livefpl so is more likely to be captained by more managers form permitting.

It’s a difficult one but the chances are you will probably favour one or the other anyway.

This defensive double up allows you to take advantage of Liverpools new found ability to keep clean sheets helped by Allison return after suffering from a calf injury earlier in the season and the potential attacking returns that could come with it.  Robertson has a goal and 6 assists.  Alexander Arnold  2 goals and 10 assists.

Only Kris O of the contributors is planning this at the moment.

Robertson, Salah and Mane

Nothing to add to this after the Alexander Arnold, Salah and Mane discussion above.

Stephen Troop and Keith Spencer are planning on this at the moment

Alexander Arnold, Salah or Mane and Firmino

Firmino offers an easy swap for those with Rashford if he is injured or if FPL managers think he is going to be injured after coming off in the FA Cup v Wolves.

His points per match is disappointing at 4.8 but that belies the fact that he is massively undershooting what are pretty good underlying stats.  Now he did under shoot those stats last season but prior to that he overperformed his xG so there is hope for improvement.  He does tend to drop deep to create space for Salah and Mane and he can be Klopp’s fixer in midfield if there is a numbers problem.  However he can make up for this with his ability to create chances for others.

He does save you £3.0m on Salah and Mane which you can invest elsewhere and depending on your team structure could avoid difficulties in transferring Salah or Mane in.

Only Prakhar is looking at this option at the moment.

Alexander Arnold, Gomez and Mane or Salah

This is the current combination in my FPL team and could allow me to keep Alli for 1 last hurrah vs Norwich.  The reason I am going against it is I worry about Gomez with Matip becoming fit.  I personally was surprised Gomez didn’t play GW1 after he was so good in the Community Shield and his pace is such an asset.  This has spooked me somewhat.

I also think Gomez means that I underplay DGW24 and the fixtures ahead and aren’t taking the maximum advantage of it as he doesn’t have the attacking potential of the fullbacks.

Liverpool supporter Jordan Sadler is following this path with Mane and Alex Skinner with Salah

Salah, Mane and  Firmino

Costas continues to take a no holds barred approach to the season.  Liverpool are in commanding attacking form and the fixtures are great.  It’s just how you feel about having so many eggs in 1 basket

Undecided contributors

At the moment Alex B, Chris, Joe and Sergio are still undecided.

GW23 may change everything

I did this article as a bit of a heads up for planning purposes but GW23 could change everything so take everything above as being subject to that

The Poll

Vote for which option you’re taking.  Sorry there isn’t every possible combination but it would have been ridiculous.  I’ve decided to have no Van Dijk or Alisson options

Thanks for voting.

The triple captain option

I won’t cover whether FPL managers are thinking of  this in todays article.  I’ll leave that to next weeks captain poll.
