fantasy premier league DGW30 defenders – player rankings for Defs and Gks

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s our fantasy premier league DGW30 defenders article where we give our defender and GK player rankings for double gameweek 30+. There’s a table of information and player suggestions to help you make a transfer choice.  There’s also an in depth look at the options for the double gameweek teams

Introduction

Avoiding the preamble

If you just want a quick transfer suggestion I’ve given these after the schedule if you want to skip all the preamble.

Stats definitions:

I’ve firstly ordered the teams by what I think is their defensive strength based their goals conceded, xG conceded and the shots per game conceded.  You can see the rank of each stat mentioned above in the first 3 columns.

The stats after that are their:

My suggested defender for that team. I’ve tried to take into account what I think is an appropriate price for the team as well as their attacking and points potential. The table then shows their value and current 19/20 PPM

The likely starting GK for the team with the same price and PPM next to them

A bookies odds for a clean sheet for GW30+ and in the case of DGW teams both games. The lower the better obviously.

The fixture ease rank. The team facing the easiest attacking teams over the next 6 gameweeks is ranked 1. The 2nd column is 5 games on from GW31

DGW30 fixtures: I have highlighted those 4 teams with 2 fixtures in the blank week of DGW30+

The Schedule

If you want access to copy and paste the schedule here’s the google spreadsheet link which I’ve set out differently if you want to sort different columns. Just go File> make a copy to get your own version

The teams are ranked by defensive strength only. Fixtures are not factored in.

The double gameweek teams:

Man City

While Man City probably have the best chance of 2 clean sheets, I find it difficult to find 1 defender who I can confidently say will play both games in the double gameweek.  If I was forced to say one player I would say it’s £4.9m Otamendi but without any particular confidence. Gk Ederson is the safest option but you need clean sheets as Man City face the least shots per game against in the PL save points aren’t particularly high.  Man City are safe in the top 4 and can’t win the league so what Pep could do rotation wise is anyone’s guess.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United are going for a historic European place and you therefore have plenty of incentive in the last 9 gameweeks.  The back 5 of Stevens, Baldock, O’Connell, Egan and Basham have missed 1 game this season between them so you can be confident with them when the team sheet comes out.  Generally you would say that the CBs are less likely to be rotated on the basis that their position is less intensive physically in terms of ground covered.

£5.2m Stevens is the best attacking wise of the 2 FBs and £4.7m O’Connell of the 3 CBs.

The wildcard is £4.9m John Lundstram  who plays as an attacking midfielder.  While potential rewards are big he has been a sub in 4 of the last 5 games with his replacement being Berge the clubs record signing.  However, even that stat doesn’t mean he is written off as he started GW29 and produced a highly praised clean sheet and assist performance against Norwich.

Arsenal

Any team facing Man City in a double gameweek seriously reduced the attraction of any defensive options.  Leno as GK will be good for save points if they are able to offset goals conceded. Luiz is probably the safest defender but his contract expires on June 30 so it’s a DGW option only.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa are probably the worst defensive team in the league and a game against Chelsea is a difficult one to contemplate a clean sheet happening.  Mings maybe the safest 2 game player but £4.4m Targett has the attacking potential and that maybe a way of trying to increase the return odds

Single gameweekers

Chelsea away v Villa, Wolves A v West Ham and Liverpool A v Everton are the 3 best chances of a clean sheet in a 1 off game.  If you want to load up on the attacking options then £6.2m Alonso, £6.3m Doherty and £7.8m Alexander Arnold are your options.

Alonso has started the last 3 but and you would hope would start especially as RB James appears to be injured which shouldn’t allow Azpilicueta to play LB.  The other LB Emerson seems well out of favour.  Doherty hasn’t always started this season but has started the last 9 and therefore should be safe.  Alexander Arnold maybe rotated once Liverpool win the league but impossible to think he won’t play in the Derby.

The cheaper less attacking options are £5.9m Azpilicueta for Chelsea, £4.8m Boly for Wolves and £5.3m Gomez for Liverpool.

The defensive fixture ease schedule

Here’s 2 fixture ease schedules.  The first has the DGW in it and ranks the 6 gameweeks from DGW30+ in terms of easiness of attackign teams faced.

The 2nd assumes that you have used your Free Hit  in DGW30+ or are Wildcarding after using your Bench Boost in DGW30+ and ranks the 5 fixtures from GW31.

Attacking defenders ranked

I’ve taken these schedules from a previous article ranking the underlying attacking stats of defenders

I’ve take the xG90 and xA90 for the season to date and converted them into FPL attacking points having adjusted the total for average minutes played.  To qualify the players must have played 1044 minutes which is 40% of the available minutes.

I’ve also included their xG and xA as well as their goals and assists to date.  The assists may differ from the FPL definition of assists but they won’t differ significantly.

All stats are from the free site understat

Alonso didn’t meet the minutes requirements but if he did he would have been 4th
