fantasy premier league – DGW31 – forwards “ones to watch”

Fantasy Premier League, Player Rankings

Here’s my fantasy premier league “ones to watch” article for forwards for DGW31.  Again I’ve done it in the new format.  As I said in the previous articles, I’ve now based it around a table of key stats to make it easier to follow.  I’ve put a key at the bottom of the table to show what each column represents although they are in the main the previous stats.  Below the table I’ve shown the  fantasy premier league gameweeks to the end of the season for each player and given a line or 2 on each specifically commenting on gametime issues.  The table assumes that Aguero is injured and not available

KEY

1.  Rank.  My order of the players with the best at the top based on the stats

2.  Time per fantasy premier league point scored this year.  This is how many minutes it takes for a Barclays fantasy premier league point to be scored over the course of the season.  The lower the better obviously.

3.  Consistency:  The % of times that the player got a goal or assist   as a % of games played

4.  Last 5 points:  The total points scored in the last 5 games

5.  Last 5 returns:  The number of times that a player has got a goal or an assist in the last 5 games played

6.  Fixture ease ranking:  The link is at the bottom of the article but essentially I’ve ranked all the teams by the ease of the first 6 fixtures.  The team with the best ranking ie 1 will have the easiest next fixtures of any of the fantasy premier league teams over the next 6 games.

7.  I’ve also added how many of the top 10 fantasy premier league managers I’ve followed.

1.  Suarez

Very little needed to explain his merits.  After having some doubters has returned with 26 points in the last 2 games.  Does everything and can create chances for others as well as score

2.  Sturridge

Consistent returner who again provded an assist to keep up his 84% return rate.  Wasn’t quite as effective as his strike partner against Man Utd and in the last 2 games but stats are way ahead of anyone else apart from Suarez and Aguero.

3.  RVP

Finally showed the ability to score big but shame for his owners it was in the Champions League against Olympiacos.  Hard to believe that he has not scored 10 points or more since GW10.  However has kept ticking over.  Is this his turning point?  Unfortunately given his limited  role as chief finisher then to a large degree it’s out of his hands.  However a slowly increasing set piece involvement is definitely helping.  Will also have pens as well.  I don’t doubt he will return well over the rest of the season given the fixtures.  It’s just is the price worth it given the alternatives?

4.  Rooney

Played in midfield from the start against Olympiakos but that seemed to give him more freedom and he was quite productive.  Has been very consistent and thats hard to ignore  but for the price you would still want someone consistently further forward.  The Liverpool game seems to have taken United backward in terms of ideal personnel and formation and that will create uncertainty over Rooneys role.  There’s no doubting his quality and his ability to score and assist, it’s just the price for the risk.

5.  Lukaku

Lukaku has been pretty consistent this year but has failed in a couple of high profile games when the captaincy spotlight was on him.  The game against Cardiff was another example.  Just hasn’t been able to put a big score up and only twice has got 10 points or more this season.  Underlying stats aren’t as good as last year either.  An obvious way of getting Everton coverage given the uncertainty of the attacking midfield line up but has risk.

6.  Dzeko

Scored against Hull with a good finish.  Has been the source of frustration due to gametime rotation and a couple of high profile misses.  However his shots in the box stats this season are outstanding and he can be excused some misses given the amount of chances he gets and his excellent returns this season.  Gametime took a positive and negative at the weekend.  Starting was definitely a good point but no second striker being played against lower table opposition does cause gametime risk.  Lets not forget though he’s £6.7m.  That is an absolute bargain given who he plays for rotation or not

7.  Giroud

A player who just can’t seem to tame his conversion rate problems.  Reasonably priced for an Arsenal forward assured of gametime.  However just not consistent enough in his finishing .

8.  Bony

Has started every game since GW19 and this run of games has seen him finally show the form that got him over 30 goals in the Dutch league last year.  In those 11 games Bony has scored 6 times and got 1 assist.  It’s a shame that the DGW31 fixtures are so difficult as it makes him difficult to consider.  However in that run of 11 games he has scored against Man City, Spurs and Liverpool.  Has pen duties as well.

9.  Carroll

Scored and played 82 minutes against Stoke in a pretty impressive performance given the time off with injury this season.  Can cause havoc on his day and has a team designed around his strengths.  A good prospect.  Fixtures are mixed at best but there’s enough good ones to make an investment worthwhile

10.  Jelavic

Has been getting loads of shots in since joining Hull just continued with an inefficent conversion rate.  However there’s some really good fixtures coming up and like Dzeko it doesn’t matter how inefficent you are if you have the chances he has you’re going to score.  Desperate to make the Croatia World Cup squad so you can bank on him giving 100% in every game even if relegation no longer becomes issue

11.  Long

Jelavics cheaper partner and the cheapest DGW31 forward with gametime security.  Very hard working and drops into midfield to avoid the need for Steve Bruce to play just the one striker.  Returns aren’t that far off Jelavic’s but doesn’t get nearly the same volume of chances

12.  Deulofeu

Ridiculously talented Barcelona loanee teenager who I’m sure we will see in Spains 2018 World cup team.  Real pace and can go past people and get behind the defence.  Returns this season are very good.  Gametime is the issue.  The attacking 3 if everyone was fit would probably be Pienaar, Osman and Mirallas or Deulofeu.  Barkley seems out of it and McGeady a sub at the moment.  Martinez also seems to have clouded the issue with alot of statements about rotation.  However with Pienaar out for 2-3 weeks in the short term Deulofeus gametime prospects seem to have improved.  He has said he wants to return to Barcelona next year so there’s no development requiremnet to play him on Martinez but while the Europa League still is in the frame Martinez will play the best team.
