Fantasy premier league – DGW31 – making room for Aguero

Fantasy Premier League

Another short fantasy premier league article which I hope again isn’t just a statement of the obvious.  I’m a huge Aguero fan and this is just a few thoughts on trying to accomodate his return to the team.  Again its all pretty obvious stuff and its not meant to be a definitive guide as there are so many permutations, it’s just a few thoughts to hopefully help your thought process

Aguero’s injury position

Pellegrini confirmed that Aguero wont be back in training until the end of next week.  Assuming no delays to that (and thats a big assumption) then he should be ready for GW33 which is home to Saints.  Not that it matters who, Aguero can score against anyone.

Background

Lets firstly remind ourselves of his basic stats

Cost: £12.1m

Goals and Assists:  15 goals 9 assists

Minutes per fantasy premier league point:  £9.1m (This is equal with Suarez)

Consistency:  Returned 13 times in 17 appearances.  76%.  Only Suarez and Sturridge are better

Points in last 5 games: 31 points.  Only Suarez and Sturridge are better. 2 of those games were sub appearances

Return consistency in last 5 games:  Has returned in all 5 of his last 5 games.  Even the 2 sub appearances

Fixture ease:  Man City have the best run in including 3 double gameweeks

These are pretty impressive and to me the 3 forwards pick themselves in Suarez, Aguero and Sturridge

How will he come back?

It’s likely he will come back firstly as a sub given his injury history and importance to the team.  However, he’s no less deadly from the bench.  He’s come from the bench 3 times in fantasy premier league this season and in 2 of those games hes returned with 10 points and 4 points respectively.

He’s definitely worth a hit to get him into the team

Options to structure a fantasy premier league team to accomodate him?

The first thing is to think who you want in your team and if necessary who you will sacrifice to get Aguero into your team. At the risk of stating the obvious if you have 3 Man City players you will definitely need to sacrifice 1 Man City player.  If you have 2 you wont need to sacrifice anyone.

Another question is how many City attacking players do you want in your team. On latest form City aren’t the all conquering team of the early season.  Since the new year theyve scored 17 goals in 8 games.  Nothing like their early season form.  In contrast Liverpool have scored 32 in the premier league since the new year, admittedly with 10 games but thats still a huge difference.  However Aguero has only played 2 of those games.  Incredibly 9 of those 17 goals were scored in those 2 games Aguero played.  In the games with Aguero in the team this season theyve scored 53 goals in 17 games so there is potential for them to return to those scoring aways.

This form with Aguero could justify 3 attacking players.  It just depends on whether you think Aguero will have that effect.

1.)  The obvious way to get him into the team is a straight transfer from another forward potentially saving cash for him.  Here’s the players close in value.  I’m assuming you wont want to transfer out Suarez or Sturridge

1.  RVP £13.6m but won’t play in at least the first DGW31 game

2.  Rooney £11.4m

Are the only 2 players close in value

2.)  Transfer out a midfielder and a striker taking a 4 point hit or saving a transfer

I’ll do this by naming an expensive midfilder to transfer out  to a cheap midfielder to save some cash.  Add that to the value for selling a striker and that is how you get Aguero in.   There are obviously numerous permutations especially if you’re saving some cash so these are just some ideas.  People will have various sale values so this is only indicative for ideas

Example:  Sell Silva or Gerrard for £9.3m and transfer in to Ki £4.3m.  Cash banked £5m.  Then you require a  a striker at £7.1m to buy Aguero.  That would allow (without money in the bank) Bony (£7.1m)  Carroll (£7.1m)  Lukaku (£8.6m) and Giroud (£8.7m) to be your striker.  However without money in the bank you couldn’t do this if you own Dzeko, Jelavic, Long and Deulofeu.

If you were willing to sell YYT for say £10.1m that would allow you to own as lower value player as Dzeko (£6.7m) and Jelavic (£6.7m) but not Long

If you’re willing to sell Hazard and assuming the sale price is £10.5m then that gives you similar options.

Selling a defender is virtually impossible to generate the cash.  If you own Baines you could just about do it by selling for £7.4m and buying a cheapie at say £3.9m to save cash of £3.5m.  That would just give you enough if you have Lukaku and Giroud without cash in the bank.

Thats it I hope you found it useful or at least provoked some thought on accomodating Aguero in the future.
