Fantasy Premier League, imaginary wildcard

Here’s our fantasy premier league DGW34 wildcard tips article where we pretend to use our 2nd wildcard.  It’s meant to give you player picks with more longevity than just the next gameweek.

So firstly a reminder that I’m not personally planning on using my wildcard this week.  I’m going to use it in DGW36 and then bench boost in DGW37.  I’ve already used my triple captain chip.  I’ll either use my AOA chip in GW38 or not at all.  I’m not fussed about it.

So no player rankings this week so I’ve cobbled together some stats to at least give you some basic information on the players.  I’ve then talked through the selection below.

Here’s the imaginary wildcard team:

The team value is £102.8m although that’s on my player values not buying values.

GK and Defence

In goal I’ve spent more money than I would like.  Thats because I wanted to get GKs in for all 3 DGWs and this was the pairing that made the most sense.

In defence I’ve started with Gabriel.  He’s a gamble and is related to the fitness of Mustafi or Wenger continuing with his 3 at the back formation.  So he does coming when a couple of caveats.

Next is Alonso and despite the lack of recent Chelsea clean sheets I still believe the top points per match defender is a good option.  The Chelsea defence still produces good stats and the Chelsea LWB is one of the few players who produces goals and assists as a hedge against lack of clean sheets.

I’ve gambled on Chambers playing 2 games for DGW34 for his value.  I’d prefer Gibson but he’s £0.7m more expensive.

Stephens is in for DGW36 and DGW37 again because of his £4.1m cost.  My preference would be Yoshida at £4.4m or Cedric at £4.8m

Vertonghen is the Spurs player with a DGW37.  He’s the cheapest.  I am sceptical of LB Rose’s return but not enough to gamble on the cheapness of Ben Davies as an alternative

Midfield

I’ve started with cheapie James Ward Prowse of Southampton who has 2 DGWs and plays an attacking midfield role with some set piece responsibility.  Again he’s there due in part to budget as my preference would be Tadic

Zaha is there for DGW34 and the preferred Palace midfielder.

Dele Alli of Spurs is in great form so it’s hard to leave him out.  He does have a DGW37.

Sanchez is the likely captain for DGW36 so an essential part of the wildcard

King is playing striker for Bournemouth and should have penalty duties too.  His fixtures are just to strong to ignore even with no DGW

Forwards

Negredo is the marginal captain choice over Benteke for DGW34 so he goes into the team.  I’ve gone for fixtures over form as Beneteke has marginally better stats.  See the recent Middlesborough and Crystal Palace team focus articles

Lukaku is in such great form and playing West Ham that he’s too difficult to take out at the moment even with no DGW

Kane has a DGW37 but again is in fantastic form and difficult to leave out

Man City and Chelsea

You’ll see that there are no Man City and Chelsea attacking players in the team.  Thats despite them both having arguably the best fixtures in DGW37 and therefore being the go to captain options.

Firstly it’s important to remember there are 3 transfers before DGW37 so that gives a chance to change the team.

The difficulty at the moment with City is the amount of rotation so in some ways trying to guess what Pep is doing will be easier the closer you are to DGW37.  At the moment only Sane and Aguero seem to be regular features.  Gabriel Jesus coming back in theory could upset either of them but especially Aguero.

Chelsea at the moment is suffering due to the form of Diego Costa but Hazard is definitely an option.   Without impending double gameweeks I’ve just left them to 1 side for the minute.  It’s possible with some changes that Hazard could be put in place of Alli with Kane being thought of as sufficient Spurs coverage.
