fantasy premier league DGW37 defenders – replacing Gabriel

Fantasy Premier League

Here’s my fantasy premier league DGW37 defenders article where I run through the options to replace Arsenal CB  Gabriel.  If you weren’t aware he didn’t play either of the DGW36 games and is the main focus of my transfer attention this week.

First of all there’s a pretty comprehensive player rankings article on defenders to take a look as well.

The basics

Just to give the basic scenario.  Gabriel cost me £4.8m and I have £0.3m in the bank.  So £5.1m to spend on a defender.  He is the only player pretty much certain not to play in my team.  I’m not proposing hits to change anyone else.  He’s my ffgeek team review article although done before the end of the gameweek.

I’m using my bench boost this week so I’m looking to him to get points not just sit on my bench hiding away.

However I’ve done a spreadsheet of options which I’ll put here.  It’s fairly self explanatory:

The schedule

The verdict or at least the thinking so far?

So the choice is simple.  Clean sheet prospects or gametime security?  In the clean sheets prospects corner there’s Spurs or Arsenal players.  The reward is a higher chance of a clean sheet but at the risk is gametime.

Or go for gametime security with Leicester, Sunderland and WBA and in some cases attacking ability but the risk is get bad fixtures and low clean sheet potential.

However the thing with defenders is that you could easily end up with 2 points if goals go against you so it seems worth the gametime risk to get some additional reward.

Davies vs Holding

Then it becomes between Davies, as for me Trippier is too risky given Walker started against West Ham.  Rose is supposed to be close to coming back but it’s been like that for a while and it’s possible he won’t be risked so soon after coming back especially if nothing is at stake.

Koscielny is a key factor in the Arsenal decision.  If he doesn’t play then the back 3 should be Holding Mustafi and Monreal which would see both Holding and Gibbs as an option.  If he does play then it will either be at the expense of Holding or Gibbs if Monreal moves to LWB.  At the moment Koscielny is  a “small chance” of playing at Stoke.  Neither options are great from the gametime position.  Monreal has played instead of Holding as a CB as well as a wing back.  Rose is supposedly training.

It will between 1 of the 2 Arsenal or Spurs players but as usual it will involve some cogitation so I wont decide now.  I’m probably leaning towards Holding as there’s less chance of him not playing either game.  I will do a FFGeek team article before the deadline when I eventually decide.  Another of those 50/50 decisions where there isn’t a obvious answer which dictate your decision.

I hope in any case the schedule helped you if you’re making the same decision.  Any thoughts appreciated.
