Background

The Premier League has said that on the 17 June the 19/20 season will restart if the safety requirements are in place.  The Fantasy Premier League site’s plan is to resume FPL with additional multiple Gameweeks for the remaining 92 fixtures.

Aston Villa v Sheffield United and Manchester City v Arsenal, were postponed due to the Carabao Cup final and will now take place on Wednesday 17 June, 2 days before a full gameweek commences on Friday 19 June.

That will mean a double gameweek for the 4 clubs above:

The doubles are as follows:

Aston Villa ( Sheffield United H) and (Chelsea H)

Sheffield United (Aston Villa A) and  (Newcastle A)

Manchester  City (Arsenal H) and (Burnley H)

Arsenal (Man City A) and Arsenal (Brighton A)

The games in that gameweek then assuming it is as GW30 was are then:

Aston Villa v Sheffield United

Man City v Arsenal

Watford v Leicester

Bournemouth v C Palace

Brighton v Arsenal

Man City v Burnley

Newcastle v Sheffield Utd

Norwich v Southampton

Aston Villa v Chelsea

West Ham v Wolves

Spurs v Man Utd

Everton v Liverpool

Sergio Torija

Sergio’s last 3 seasons were 596k, 17k and 21k

Total points 1,709,  Overall Rank: 17k, Team Value: £103.1m

Sergio has his 2nd wildcard and all his chips

Hi all

Current position

It is good to be back thinking and writing about fpl. I hope all FFGeekers out there and their families are well.

I suppose as many out there, I got completely disengaged with the game and I only remembered to do a few random transfers on seeing deadline alerts from the other contributors of the site. Although it is pretty difficult for me to make transfers on abstract terms, with no idea of fixture order, existence of blanks or double gameweeks, etc.

Eventually I did use 6 free transfers during the dead gameweeks of 31-38. In came a few of the most popular players lately: Bruno Fernandes, Harvey Barnes, Maguire and Calvert-Lewin, along with Wood (freeing up money) and Lloris (team with good fixtures and something to play for). Out went Van Dijk, Ings, Guaita, Vardy, Noble and Fleck.

So ended up with a pretty template team, in theory with 2 free transfers to use.

Plans going forward

Now, the FPL season restart is imminent, although we still don’t have the full information required to plan ahead. From the great analysis that the Geek did in his article it seems that there will be a double gameweek to start with and then possibly no more blanks or double gameweeks. This is no doubt good news to those that used their chips already, while those like me who were saving towards the end will now struggle to make proper benefit of the chips.

The double gameweek involves City, Arsenal, Sheffield and Aston Villa. Looking at what chip to use, one could argue for any of the three to be used (not the wildcard).

Bench Boost would be good for those with a significant number of doublers in their team already, I’ve got the grand total of ONE, so this is not an option for me.

Triple Captain has been used by most managers by now, but I still have it. City has two great attacking fixtures at home: Burnley and Arsenal. I fancy an Aguero triple captain here

Free Hit would then seem the natural option to go for, with surely three City, 2/3 Sheffield, Aubameyang, Pepe?, and Grealish. It could be balanced with the likes of TAA, Mane or Salah, but if I was to go through this route, I would likely gamble on a full doublers squad. The biggest decision is probably weather going with three City attackers, or like in my case two plus Ederson. This leaves enough budget to include Pepe on the squad. My initial draft is below:

Currently I am edging towards the triple captain, more than anything else because I really see little value on the triple captain for a single gameweek later on. While the free hit can be of good use in a single gameweek, or even if you wanted to be twist-minded, there could be further game cancellations along the line that could create unexpected blanks or doubles.

Looking at my team, the only possible route for Aguero would be to double move Salah and a striker, losing Salah not great. But I still have the wildcard to amend that later on if needed.

A lot of time to think still though, first thing first, will be to get confirmation from FPL on how the game will restart. But hope this gives out some ideas.

Stay safe all

Rick Porter

Rick has used his triple captain and free hit chip

The return of FPL is a welcome distraction for many, though it has forced me to remember a comparatively insignificant misfortune that happened just before the world ground to a halt. Looking at the other contributors mulling over using their Free Hit chip for DGW39 is nothing but a kick in the nuts for me as I wasted mine in an effort to gain an advantage in the surprise DGW29. A terrible move as the extra match ended up being cancelled due to the virus and two key players I dropped (Barnes and Vardy) scored a massive 30 points between them. My rank took a hit and I found myself just outside the top 100,000 again.

I’ve been making transfers throughout the break and have brought in players I felt were essential for maintaining a decent rank (Fernandes), dropped the iffy starters (Aurier, Rico) and firmed up my bench so I was ready for a Bench Boost. I’m happy with the way my team looks now but, annoyingIy, I only have De Bruyne and Baldock with a DGW39.

At the time of writing no announcement has been made as to what we’ll have to work with when the game restarts. There’s talk of unlimited transfers – which would solve my DGW issue – but it’s just chatter and I certainly can’t rely upon it. I did have two transfers in the bank when the game ended so I’m hoping I at least have access to those. That means I could swap Barnes and Noble for Grealish and Saka to give me four (potential) double players, maybe take a hit for a fifth, then bench boost. I can’t imagine my bench being in any better shape than it is right now and with no further doubles on the cards I may as well make best use of it before things get tricky and players start getting tired.

If the game returns without my two transfers or, worse still, it resets my team to what it was pre-virus then a careful Wildcard will be a last resort. I imagine it’ll be difficult to juggle the initial doubles with a balanced team for the rest of the season, so I’m hoping this isn’t required.

Here’s how my Bench Boost team will look (assuming I get two transfers and there are no surprises):
